Chapter 185 Zora's Lie Exposed
Martin stared at her carefully. Zora's heart raced in her chest, and Martin picked something staring into her eyes. She appeared to be hiding something.
"Zora, tell me the truth. I know someone came here. Don't lie to me," Martin said, and Zora hardened her heart.
She couldn't bring herself to give Elorm away. She was sure Elorm didn't do anything to Angela. If anything, she believed someone may have come in after Elorm left.
"I was alone with Angela. I left to use the washroom. When I came back, I didn't see anything amiss. I sat down and dozed off. I heard a beeping sound and opened my eyes. I was greeted with the scene of people surrounding Angela's bed," Zora narrated.
"How long were you in the washroom?" Martin asked.
"I am not sure, but I was there for a while," Zora replied, and Martin frowned.
"What were you doing in the washroom?" Martin asked, trying to calculate how long Zora was in the washroom and the possibility of someone entering Angela's ward and exiting without her noticing.
"What kind of a question is that? Why do you want to know what I was doing in the washroom? What do we do in a washroom?" Zora questioned, already feeling guilty about her reason for staying in the washroom for a long time.
"This is how I know you are hiding something. I am going to look into this matter. If I found out someone came here when we were away, you would not like me," Martin said and left Zora standing in the hallway.
Zora pulled her phone and dialled Elorm's number, staring in the direction Martin had left. Elorm answered, and Zora engaged him in a conversation.
"Elorm, something happened when you left. Someone tried to harm Angela. Perchance, did you see anyone entering the ward when you left?" Zora asked.
"No, not that I could remember. I was going to get us food. So I hurriedly headed for the staircase. I only met some nurses who were going about their duties in the hallway. That was all," Elorm replied.
"Okay," Zora said.
"What happened? Are they blaming you?" Elorm asked, pretending to be concerned.
"No, they believe I was not alone, but don't worry. I never mentioned you were here. They will take things the wrong way. I know you are not well. I don't want them to bother you with this," Zora said on the call.
Back in the theatre, Bryce and Angela were both lying on the operating table where the transplant was taking place. The doctors worked around the clock to ensure nothing went wrong.
Martin, on the other hand, was trying to find out what happened. He went into his gallery and pulled images from the Company launch. He went through each picture frame and finally found what he was looking for. A picture of Elorm. He walked towards the gate.
"Hello. I need your help," Martin began. "Have you seen this man anywhere around this hospital today?" he asked.
"We just got here. Sorry," the security man replied.
"Thank you," Martin said and went back into the hospital.
He was sure the man in the picture came to see Zora in the hospital. When he entered the elevator, he saw a familiar figure before the elevator closed. He felt the man was up to no good. Martin went back into the hospital and walked up to the receptionist. He tried to use his detective tactics.
"Hello, I am Detective Martin," Martin said and pulled a barge out of his pocket, which he flipped open and quickly put back before the receptionist could read anything.
"I am looking for this man. I have reason to believe he visited this place a couple of hours ago," Martin said and gave the exact time he had seen the familiar figure.
The receptionist looked at the picture Martin was showing her and shook her head no.
"I want the list of staff on duty around that time," Martin said, and the receptionist stared at him. "Ma'am, you have no idea who this man is. If you have seen him hear let me know," he said.
"I haven't. I am for the afternoon shift," the receptionist replied, and Martin rolled his eyes.
"Who was here in the morning?" he asked, and the receptionist told him. "Let me have her contact?" he asked, and the receptionist gave him the contact.
"Thank you for your cooperation," Martin said and walked away from the reception.
He went out of the hospital and called the lady.
"Hello, I am Detective Martin. I would like to ask you a question," Martin said.
"Okay," the lady replied.
"I am going to send an image over to you. I need you to confirm if the person was at any point in time around the hospital while you were managing the reception," he said.
"Okay," the lady said, and Martin sent the image to her.
"Yes, I saw him at the hospital. He came to buy three cups of tea at the hospital cafeteria. That is where I saw him," the lady replied.
"Thank you. That is all I need to know," Martin said and ended the call.
He went back into the hospital looking for Zora. He had already concluded that if Zora was lying to him, she had something to hide.
Back in the theatre, everything was successful, and Angela and Bryce were both pushed out of the theatre to the recovery ward. They were sharing a room, lying on separate beds.
Martin went to see the doctor.
"How did it go?" Martin asked.
"Everything went well. They are in the recovery ward now," the doctor said to Martin.
"But I thought Angela was in a coma? I thought you couldn't operate on someone in such a situation?" Martin asked, already suspecting Angela might have woken up from the coma.
"Whatever poison was given to her, which quickly started attacking her vital organs, kind of brought her out of a coma too," the doctor replied.
"Can I see them?" Martin asked.
"Give them some time. I will let you know when you can see them," the doctor said to Martin.
Martin left the doctor's office and went to find Zora. He found Zora sitting in the patient waiting area at the reception.
"Come with me," Martin said to her and pulled her by the arms.
Martin pulled Zora out of the hospital and found a place to stand so he could talk to her.
"Why did you lie to me?" Martin asked, and Zora frowned. "Don't think about lying to me because I know he was here. Who is he, and what did he come here to do, and why did you lie about his coming here?" Martin asked, and Zora swallowed hard.
