Chapter 186 An Enemy on the Loose
"What are you talking about?" Zora tried to play smart.
"Who is he?" Martin questioned and showed the picture to Zora.
Zora stared at the image of Elorm on Martin's screen and gulped.
"It's not what you think. He didn't do anything. I was with Angela when he left." Zora tried to shield Elorm, and Martin frowned.
"So why did you lie about it the first time?" Martin asked.
"He is my friend, and he has cancer. He is dying. I didn't want you to add him to your list of suspects. He is a good man," Zora defended.
"Is he your ex?" Martin asked, and Zora lowered her head.
"Yes," Zora replied in a low tone. "He broke up with me when he found out about his health. He didn't want to drag me into his problems," she added.
"So you want to go back to him?" Martin asked, and Zora raised her head to stare at his face.
"No," Zora replied with a frown.
"So why were you kissing him? I saw you twice. Is it part of a healing process?" Martin asked, feeling hurt about Zora meeting up with her ex.
"I didn't kiss him. He," Zora said and lowered her head. "He kissed me," she said, looking away from Martin.
"I see. It didn't seem to me like you didn't want him to. So technically, you invited him to kiss you," Martin said. "Are you that desperate to be fvck?" he asked, and Zora slapped him across the face.
"I may have made a mistake, but that doesn't give you permission to disrespect me," Zora barked and walked away.
Martin stared at her back as she walked away. Then he brought up his phone, dialled a number, and put the phone to his ear.
"I am sending a picture over. I need your help. I want to know everything about the person, including medical records," Martin said on the call. "There is an enemy on the loose, and I am sure this person is one of his tentacles," he said. "Great," he appreciated and ended the call.
Martin walked towards the hallway where Bryce and Angela were lying. Martin stayed there till late evening when Bryce and Angela were moved into one of the wards. Bryce was the first to wake up.
"Boss," Martin called out to him, and Bryce shifted his head in the direction of Martin.
He felt a little weak.
"How did it go?" Bryce asked, scanning the room, and his gaze fell on Angela lying on another bed next to him.
"It went well," Martin replied.
"She moved," Bryce said, seeing Angela move her finger.
"I will get the doctor," Martin said and pressed the bell.
A doctor and a nurse entered the room after a few minutes.
"She moved," Martin said to the doctor, and they quickly went to Angela.
Bryce was still lying on the bed, staring at Angela while the doctors did their checks. Angela opened her eyes. The doctor flashed a light into her eyes.
"Patient is responsive," the doctor said and shifted his gaze to the monitoring machines. "Her vitals look good," he said and shifted his gaze back to Angela. "Hello, miss," he said, and Angela opened her eyes fully. "Can you hear me?" he asked, and Angela nodded.
"Great," the doctor said. "Do you know where you are?" the doctor asked, and Angela looked around, and she saw Bryce.
"Bryce," she called out to him, and Bryce smiled.
"My love," Bryce replied.
"Okay, I will run a couple of tests, and we can talk," the doctor said to Bryce. "How are you feeling?" he asked.
"I am good," Bryce said and tried to sit, but the doctor stopped him immediately.
"No, sir. Just give yourself some time. Relax a bit. We can bring your beds together, but please relax," the doctor said and quickly paged some staff.
Four hospital staff members walked in and brought Angela and Bryce's beds together, leaving just a small space between that would require one to enter sideways to use that space.
"Okay, I will come back with the results," the doctor said and left.
Martin stood on the side while Bryce engaged Angela in a conversation.
"What happened?" Angela asked.
"You were attacked. Do you not remember?" Bryce asked, and Angela searched her mind, but was quickly hit by a headache, which made her raise her hand to her head.
"Don't worry about it. But do you know who I am?" Bryce asked, and Angela nodded.
"Who am I?" Bryce asked.
"You are my husband?" Angela replied, her voice a little weak.
"When did we get married?" Bryce asked, feeling there was something wrong.
Angela replied by mentioning the day they got married after she woke up in his bed, and Bryce frowned.
"What else do you remember?" Bryce asked.
"I am supposed to start work on Monday," Angela replied, and the expression on Bryce's face changed.
Angela has lost her recent memories. It felt good because she doesn't remember she was pregnant, but again, how does he explain to her what happened to Mr and Mrs Anderson?
"Get some rest," Bryce said, and Angela nodded.
Later that evening, Martin received a call from the person he had tasked to help him investigate Elorm. He excused himself to receive the call. Angela was sleeping, and Bryce was feeling a lot better but was still asked to stay in bed.
Outside in front of the ward, Martin answered the call.
"Okay, what do we have?" Martin said.
"His name is Elorm, and he is the son of a man who worked with the mafia group. His father was working for a man called Eduardo. He was very close to Zora but was not sure of the extent of the relationship. About his medical record, he is as fit as a fiddle. Recent activities picked up on him reveal that he is now working for one Ivan Davis," the person said, and Martin frowned.
"Thank you. Please send everything to my email," Martin said, and the call ended.
He went back to the ward, and Bryce rested his gaze on him. Martin came closer to his bed and informed him about everything he had just been told. He opened his email and showed the document that had been sent to his email to Bryce.
"When we left to confront Ivan Davis, he was here. He came to see Zora. Zora defends him, but if he is working with Ivan Davis, I am sure he was the one who poisoned Ms Angela," Martin said.
"We don't have the surveillance footage of Angela's previous ward," Bryce said, staring at the details on Martin's phone screen.
"No, boss," Martin replied, and a doctor walked in.
"Okay, I have the report on your wife, and everything looks okay. She needs time to gain her strength and heal completely," the doctor informed Bryce. "About her memory. She appears to have lost the recent occurrence. She may recover that with time. Not sure how soon," he added.
"Thank you, doctor," Bryce acknowledged.
"You also need to get some rest. You had an organ removed, and that means you are not as strong as before now," the doctor added. "I will take my leave," he said and exited the ward, leaving the trio.
"Martin, get Zora here," Bryce said, and Martin nodded.
He went out of the ward and dialled Zora's number. The phone rang multiple times before she answered.
"What!" Zora said harshly.
"Mr Moore wants to see you now," Martin said and gave her the ward number before ending the call.
He stood at the entrance and waited. A couple of minutes passed, and he saw Zora exiting the elevator. She walked toward him. Martin opened the door for her to enter the ward. Bryce was sitting on the bed with the back raised, putting him in a sitting position.
"Zora, you told me about a friend who wants to live his dream. You told me he had cancer and was in his last stage," Bryce said, and Zora just stared at Bryce,e wondering what was going on. "Look at this and tell me what you see," he said and shifted his gaze to Martin.
Martin unlocked his phone and showed Zora Elorm's medical record with the date of printing boldly written on it.
"I understand he was in this hospital, and you shielded him. I am going to ask you one question. How did you find out about his health condition?" Bryce asked.
"He came to me on my first day at work. He said he read a gossip on the news about me. He showed it to me on his phone. We spoke at length, and he showed me his medical report. That is how I got to know he had cancer," Zora replied.
"Did you check for the news yourself after reading it on his phone?" Bryce asked, and Zora realised she was distracted after hearing about Elorm's health condition.
She didn't check the news again. She shook her head in a no.
"There was no news anywhere about you working as an HR manager in Diamond Corporation. You can check the news. Your name was not even mentioned during the rebranding. Type your name and see if it will pop up with any news relating to Diamond Corporation or PEG," Bryce said to her, and Zora felt stupid.
"He used you to harm Angela. I am going to use you to punish him," Bryce said, and Zora raised her head to stare at Bryce.
