Chapter 95 An Unexpected Entry
Chapter 95 An Unexpected Entry
I stared as Nicole walked towards her slowly, then crouched below and touched her gingerly, to check if she was breathing.
“Told ya” she grinned, standing up and coming over to me.
“You tricked me,” I said, annoyed. “I could've died if I wasn't fast enough”
“Oh come on… don't be a wuss about it, I had everything planned out, I wouldn't have let anything happen” she said, wrapping her arm around my shoulder. “And besides… you said you trusted me with your life remember”
I groaned as she pulled me away, talking animatedly in my ears.
Remind me never to trust my life to people who were sure to wager it.
“Don't talk to me you asshole” a shrill voice said from the distance.
Nicole and I paused in our tracks, and stood prepared for a fight.
“And why would I even want to talk to some kid?” Finley's voice rang out as he and Marco came into view with a little girl in the middle.
Marco held a pair of high stilettos, his face bored as usual, Finley on the other hand looked ready to burst from anger.
“I'm seventeen years old, I'm not a kid,” the girl screamed.
Finley scoffed, rubbing his forehead.
Her pink hair was tied into a high ponytail, she wore a blue jumpsuit paired with brown eyes and blood red lipstick. And… she was barefoot.
“Just because you're wearing some heavy makeup doesn't make you an adult,” Finley argued.
“You're such a misogynist," she spat.
He rolled his eyes, then they slowly landed on us, a big smile warped his face and he hastened his pace to reach us.
He immediately pulled us both in for a hug, then exhaled heavily.
“I'm glad you're both okay,” he murmured. “I was a bit worried”
Nicole pulled away from him, smiling. “We're not some damsel in distress Finley”
He smiled also, then faltered when he stared at her arm. “What happened?”
She shrugged lightly. “I was nicked by that crazy bitch over there” she pointed to the passed-out lady. “It's poisoned though”
His face immediately drained of color. “How can you smile like that? We need to get you treatment ASAP”
“There's no need,” the little girl said, walking towards the lady. “Cassy always keeps an antidote just in case” she said, rummaging through the lady's utility belt.
She pulled something out and walked over to us, passing the small bottle to Nicole, “here”
We both stared at her. “Who's this?” I asked.
Finley cleared his throat awkwardly. “It's a long story but to cut it short, that's Josiah”
Huh…
She waved, smiling brightly.
Our gaze moved from Finley to the little girl in confusion, then back again.
“Did you hit your head or something?” Nicole asked.
“He's not kidding nic” Marco said, walking closer. “She had all sorts of equipment on her that made her seem matured, including this” he said, holding up the stilettos, “and some voice changer or whatever”
“It's called a voice enhancer, one of G-3’s prototypes,” Josiah argued, folding her arm over her chest.
“Anyway Marco decided it would be ungentlemanly to fight a kid, so we opted out… but she still beat the crap out of us anyway”
“Because you both wouldn't fight back” Josiah screamed.
“Because you're a kid,” Marco said.
“I am a fighter, I've been training for moments like this… you assholes don't have the right to trample on my dignity cos you assume I'm some weak kid”
“You actually are though, your punches were light and you're quite inexperienced. If you'd encountered someone who wasn't like us… you'd probably end up with some really serious injuries” Marco said.
She huffed, turning away from us in annoyance. I honestly understood how she felt seeing as they always treated me the same way, discarding the fact that I put my hard work, discipline and determination into all my training.
And yet I knew they did it not to demean but because… that was just how they were. Even having grown up in a world of violence, they were still soft hearted deep down.
They were still protectors.
“Come on drink” Finley said, opening the bottle and passing it to Nicole.
She chugged it down her throat instantly, then gave it back to Finley.
“So… you're basically a kid,” Nicole said.
“I'm not a kid, I'm seventeen” Josiah argued fuming.
“Below eighteen is technically and lawfully a kid, but I'm surprised how knowledgeable you are Josiah… it's a trait most people don't get to achieve even at old age” I said.
She smiled proudly. “My captain is a smart man and he teaches us a lot,” she said.
“Why are you half naked Aggy?” Finley asked. “Your boobs are all out,”
A blush crept up my face, God I'd totally forgotten I was only in my sports bra.
Nicole slapped his head.“Seriously?”
“What was that for?” He whined.
“You should learn to be more discreet you idiot” she reprimanded, “and, she had to tear her dress to wrap around my wound”
“Ohh… I'm sorry Aggy” he said.
“It's fi-”
A loud bang shook the building, the wall beside us was broken through… just as a body came flying from the dust and brick and landed on the opposite wall.
We all coughed, brushing the dust over our faces. I blinked slowly watching as the dust faded away.
Four figures stepped out of the broken wall and walked towards the slumped man.
“You fucking killed him already you prick” Alia said, crouching in front of the man.
“Shut up… he's just unconscious,” Zeibar replied, coming to stand beside her.
Gabriel stepped forward, he was the first to notice the awaiting crowd, but he instead stared at all of us in silence.
Then lastly… Ronan stepped through.
He wore a black overall coat, specks of blood clung to his face and coat paired with the tight frown on his face.
“Huh… what are you all doing out here?” Zeibar asked, in confusion. Finally noticing us.
Ronan's eyes immediately scanned the crowd, till they landed on mine.
He blinked in surprise, making my heart skip a bit and a light blush coated my cheeks.
A whistle sounded from the opposite direction and a familiar face in a priest's robe walked towards us. He had a rifle hung on his shoulder.
“Damn Aggy, you sure are giving us quite the show ehn…” Abel grinned.
A smile broke out on my face as he stepped closer. “Miss me?” Abel asked, coming to stand in front of me.
I nodded smiling in delight.
I'd really missed him.
“Seriously Aggy… you probably don't know how glad I am to see you alive and well” Abel grinned, hugging me tightly.
Maybe a bit too tightly.
“What are you doing here?” I asked in surprise.
“I should be asking you what you're doing here instead,”
I blushed. “It's a long story”
“Ahh… I see,” he mused thoughtfully, then wrapped his arm around my shoulder. “How about… we can talk about this on the wa-”
Ronan pulled him away from me suddenly then took off his coat jacket and wrapped it around my body.
I froze.
