Chapter 107 Conversations

Chapter 107 Conversations
I pushed the door open and walked in.

It felt like stepping into judgement.

Their gazes locked on mine immediately.

And I already knew this wasn’t going to end well.

“Aggy!” Nicole said, rushing to me but the cuffs nailed to the table held her back.

I walked forward, eyes devoid of emotion.

“We were so worried about you, where have you been…” her voice trailed as she stared at me in confusion.

I took a seat across from them.

“Aggy?” she called. “What's with this dressing… the badge?”

My jaw clenched, as my gaze dropped to my lap.

“What is going on Aggy? Answer me—”

“Seems like she has a lot to say, Nic.” Finley cut in. “Let her be.”

With that—

The room fell into a deafening silence.

It was the kind that makes your chest tight.

My heart hammered in my chest.

My palms felt sweaty, while more slicked down my brows.

But for the life of me, I couldn't find the confidence to talk.

The words were there… they just wouldn’t come out.

“I feel like I know where this is going, and I also think you might need some reassurance…” Finley began. “Whatever it is Aggy, we spent months being together, going on missions, eventually becoming friends. And nothing you say here and now is going to make us hate you.”

Silent tears fell down my face, and I struggled to wipe it off, but more flowed instead.

I didn’t even realize when I started crying.

“I'm so sorry…” I managed in-between my crying.

“Ohh… Aggy,” Nicole cooed quietly.

“I'm so sorry,” I sniffled, wiping my nose as snot ran down. “I didn't- I didn't… mean to lie, I'm so sorry I betrayed you guys.”

I let out a shaky breath, my fingers tightening against the fabric of my clothes as everything came crashing down at once.

It wasn’t just guilt… it was the memories.

Every laugh, every late night, every stupid argument that meant nothing at the time but somehow meant everything now.

The way Nicole would drag me into things I didn’t want to do, the way Finley always acted like nothing could ever go wrong—as if we had time, as if none of this would catch up to us.

And I stood there, in the middle of it all, pretending. Smiling when I was supposed to, caring when I wasn’t supposed to, letting them trust me when I already knew how it would end.

My chest tightened painfully.

Because the worst part wasn’t that I lied…
It was that somewhere along the way, it stopped feeling like a lie.

“What are you being sorry for?” Finley asked.

I stilled.

Then sniffled softly, as I raised my head up to meet his eyes.

“You're being sorry about doing your job?”

Huh…

That wasn’t what I expected at all.

“I infiltrated your Cartel…” I drawled.

He shrugged. “So… you were doing your job, the only thing I feel annoyed about is how you were able to fool us. That just shows how good you are.”

I turned my gaze towards Nicole, but she threw hers away.

Sadness filled my heart immediately and I lowered my gaze.

“You fooled us big time.” She said,

“I'm sorry…”

“Come on, Nic. Give the girl a break, she looks like the walking dead.”

“How can you be so calm about this?” Nicole asked.

“We've always known it'd end up like this didn't we, I'd say we let ourselves get fooled, even the boss knows.”

“It still doesn't feel good, Fin.” She replied, voice breaking at the end.

“Come on, you know I don't like seeing you cry,” he murmured, moving closer to her.

I stared at my lap quietly, while Finley patted her as she sobbed softly.

After a while… she stopped.

“Our families are coming for us by tomorrow.” Nicole said suddenly.

I glanced at her.

Needing to see her face… even if it hurt.

“I know… my partner said you both wouldn't be held.”

“I guess we have you to thank for this,”

I frowned slightly. “Why.”

“We've always thought of leaving all these behind and starting over.” Nicole said, with a genuine smile. “For that, you have our thanks.”

“I—”

“Just take it, Aggy.” Finley murmured.

“I can't…” I said quietly. “I would have taken your hate instead.”

“We would have loved to hate you, but we can't. It's that simple. And like Nicole said, you did us a favor.”

“And besides we're not rotting in jail so… it's all good.”

“Boss is going to though, more like they're going to kill him…” Nicole said, suddenly.

My head snapped up sharply.
“What?”

“I highly doubt that would happen,” Finley said, “the Overlords aren't going to sit by and let it happen.”

“You really think they care?”

“The Overlords aside, I don't think that's going to happen, they were supposed to give him a few years…”

She scoffed lightly, “that's not what we heard.”

“No…” I shook my head, “they wouldn't do that… that wasn't what Lance said—”

“I'm telling you that's what they're going to do, Aggy.” she cut in sharply. “He's going to die, he has no one, Aggy. You're going to have to help him.”

“I… I don't know if I can…”

“You're going to have to. Boss might have done a lot of things, but they don't warrant him dying.”

I glared at my hands in my lap.

What was I going to do?

What could I even do?

I had to do something right…

Nicole was right, Ronan might have done a lot of things, but one thing was for sure—

He didn't deserve to die.

“I will save him.” I said, staring at her. Eyes hard with determination.

She smiled softly. “Thank you.”

With that… I stood up and walked towards the door.

My hand stopped at the doorknob and I glanced behind me.

“My name is—”

“Aggy…” Nicole cut in quickly. “You're Agnes, that's who you are to me.”

A small tear fell down my face and I rushed to wipe it away.

“I'll see you both tomorrow, outside of here preferably.”

They both nodded.

“We should grab a drink after all this.” Finley said.

I nodded, then opened the door and stepped out.

I exhaled heavily, then steeled my gaze as I prepared myself for another mission.

A mission to save Ronan Callahan.
