Chapter 91 Are You Trying to Seduce Chris?
Shit.
Just as he'd thought on the way here, this woman must see him as a rival.
What a mess this was.
They both got out of the car.
Chris had planned to run over and open the passenger door for Elsie.
But Elsie had already opened the door and stepped out before he could get there.
She sensed instinctively—was Chris trying to use her to reject this woman?
It wasn't impossible. After all, he was such a calculating man.
She had to be on guard.
Elsie decided to take the initiative and go say hello.
But the woman acted as if she didn't see her at all and started chatting with Chris.
Chris didn't deliberately put on a cold face, but you could tell he wasn't that interested—just responding politely.
But the woman didn't care at all. Acting like a little girl, she explained why she was there.
Actually, she wasn't here to directly participate in the project. Simply put, she was like a cheerleader, here to cheer Chris on.
However, Chris's father, Oscar, had temporarily assigned her an assistant role, clearly trying to bring them together and give them more time to spend with each other.
The woman's eyes were intense, as if she always wanted to get something from Chris, and she kept trying hard.
It wasn't until Chris smiled that she finally seemed happy.
She patted Chris on the shoulder: "Don't worry, I won't cause you any trouble!"
Only then did she 'notice' Elsie.
She walked over with a smile: "Hello, I'm Arabella Pearl, Chris's fiancée."
Elsie reached out to shake hands, but Arabella ignored her again.
If Arabella could be Chris's fiancée, she must come from a wealthy family—how could she bother shaking hands with her?
Just now, Arabella had already sized up Elsie. The clothes she wore were just cheap stuff from online stores. Clearly, someone without much money, a woman trying to climb the social ladder by latching onto rich people.
But she still felt extremely threatened, because Elsie was just too beautiful.
"Arabella, don't spread rumors. I'm single and not engaged!"
Chris quickly defended himself.
Arabella grabbed Chris's arm and looked up at him: "Our families have a marriage agreement. Getting engaged is just a formality. Your dad personally agreed to it—are you saying that's not true?"
Seeing her use Oscar as leverage, Chris looked bitter and sighed: "Fine, fine, whatever. Okay, I got your encouragement. Can you leave now?"
"No way, I'm going back with you!"
Arabella said, with a triumphant expression on her face, glancing at Elsie from time to time, as if she were a winner.
Being pretty doesn't mean everything. Marriage alliances between big families aren't as simple as you think.
Elsie kept smiling the whole time, and her eyes even showed gratitude.
She thought to herself, 'Please take Chris away quickly. Forget the engagement—just go get married right now.'
'Just keep him away from me.'
"Come on, Arabella, let me introduce you. This is Elsie, a project member from another company bidding against the Morgan family."
Chris pushed Arabella, signaling her to shake hands.
Arabella had clearly been very rude just now.
Elsie extended her right hand again: "Hello, Ms. Pearl."
Arabella looked Elsie up and down, not expecting Elsie to hold such an important position in Chris's mind.
But since Chris had spoken, she reluctantly reached out and shook hands symbolically.
"By the way, someone from the Morgan family came looking for me earlier and said that when you arrive, go to the lobby. They said there's something about a financial project they need to discuss with you specifically."
Chris nodded and said, "Then, Elsie, you go up by yourself in a bit. We'll see each other at the bidding meeting."
"What about me? What about me?"
Arabella said coquettishly. Why hadn't Chris made arrangements for her?
"You too, see you at the bidding meeting."
With that, Chris left first.
Elsie listened, thinking that the Diaz family was different from the Wilson family. This was the Wilson family's first collaboration with the Morgan family, but not for the Diaz family—they already had an established working relationship.
She worried whether this might become a factor in the Morgan family ultimately choosing the Diaz family.
"Hey."
Arabella watched Chris walk away, then looked at Elsie with contempt.
In just a few minutes, she had developed extreme hostility toward Elsie.
Elsie was thinking about the project and didn't notice Arabella calling her.
Arabella got even angrier. She thought Elsie was ignoring her.
Arabella snorted lightly. Did she think that temporarily winning a man's favor with her looks meant she'd have a good life from now on?
"Everyone's fate seems to have unlimited possibilities, but in reality, they're still making choices within a limited range."
Arabella decided to give Elsie a hint, for Chris's sake.
Elsie was slightly stunned. She'd been thinking about the project and had believed that Arabella was threatening her as a competitor, so she didn't react right away.
"Ms. Pearl is right, but in this matter, I'll do my best."
Elsie said.
Arabella's expression changed.
Elsie checked the time: "Ms. Pearl, it's getting late. Should we head to the conference room now? I'll take you there."
Elsie spoke very politely and properly.
She didn't ask whether Arabella knew the way—she just said she'd take her, already putting herself in a lower position with her words.
She didn't want to offend anyone.
"I'm not blind. I've been to Morgan Group so many times—do I need a nobody like you to show me around?"
Arabella mocked her. She looked down on Elsie from the bottom of her heart.
Elsie smiled, agreed, and let Arabella walk ahead while she stayed half a step behind.
She kept telling herself, 'This is just a job. I just need to do it well. I can't mess things up at this critical moment.'
Arabella walked ahead proudly, saying nothing.
But she found Elsie's presence more and more irritating, and finally couldn't help saying:
"Stop dreaming. Don't think about seducing Chris. He's mine."
She was still being misunderstood.
Elsie walked along and said sincerely, "Ms. Pearl, don't worry. I don't have those intentions. This is just my job."
"Really?"
Arabella frowned and said mockingly, "If you weren't trying to seduce Chris, would he be so nice to you on his own? Do you really think I'm a fool?"
Elsie was speechless.
How could she explain this? It was clearly Chris who had approached her first.
When they were downstairs at Wilson Group, Chris said he liked her, and Elsie had made her position clear.
Was that her fault, too?
"Ms. Moore!"
As they were walking, a slightly excited voice came from not far away in the lobby.
Rhett walked over quickly with a smile on his face.
"Arabella, you're here too."
Arabella nodded.
She noticed that Rhett had eyes only for Elsie, not for her.
It wasn't that she liked Rhett, but Rhett had known her since childhood. When they were young, Rhett was always following her around.
Now, was Elsie going to steal her friend, too?
This Elsie was really something.
