Chapter 90 Daniel Is Too Hypocritical
Chapter 90 Daniel Is Too Hypocritical
Along the way, Chris drove very steadily.
Maybe it was the first impression - the white suit, exposed chest muscles, that image of a spoiled rich kid was just too vivid.
Now, Elsie felt a bit uncomfortable instead.
Chris had prepared hamburgers, steak, hot coffee, mouthwash, and a bunch of other things early on.
His way of speaking wasn't as arrogant as before, either.
Looking at him now, he seemed more like a well-mannered person.
The more a man was like this, the more dangerous he was.
Elsie didn't dare let her guard down and stayed alert the whole time.
"Stop pressing yourself against the car door. Keep going and you'll push it open. Am I really that scary?"
Chris glanced over and said with a bitter smile.
Seeing that Chris had seen through her thoughts, Elsie felt a bit embarrassed and sat up properly in the passenger seat.
How could she not be scared? Just two days ago, he had set her up. If it weren't for him, she wouldn't have been temporarily suspended from work.
Elsie felt wronged. She just wanted to keep her job, but not only did she have to deal with being misunderstood and framed by people at the company, but now she had to sit in the car of the very person who framed her.
There was nearly a 5-minute traffic light ahead.
Chris rolled down the window, pulled out a pack of cigarettes, and looked at Elsie questioningly, asking if he could smoke. Seeing that Elsie didn't say anything, he took it as consent.
"Rhett is pretty good."
"Only in his teens and already being brought out by his family to gain experience. He has that composure and stability, plus pretty good adaptability. Among kids his age, he's definitely outstanding."
"But he still lacks some experience, especially on the business battlefield. Logic must outweigh emotion. A businessman's job is to make a profit. He's mixing too much personal emotion into it, which isn't good."
Chris lit a cigarette, took a deep drag, turned his head toward the window, and let the smoke drift outside, his eyes slightly narrowed.
"So working with you would be much better then?"
Elsie turned her head away and said sarcastically.
She thought Chris was extremely fake.
He was clearly the one who used every trick in the book to ruin the deal, and now he was butting into this afternoon's negotiation meeting. This person was way too calculating.
"You're in the Wilson Group's position, naturally thinking from Daniel's perspective. But to beat your opponent, you have to think from their angle. Understanding your opponent is how you defeat them. I'm not talking about you, I'm talking about Otto. There's something I want to say - I don't know if you'll believe it or not?"
The faint smell of tobacco lingered around Elsie's nose. She quietly rolled down the window a bit:
"I don't believe it. There's no basis for trust between us."
Chris looked at Elsie's annoyed expression and felt even more pleased. He raised an eyebrow, looking like a little boy arguing: "Believe it or not, I'm going to say it anyway. My participating in this afternoon's bidding meeting - I just received notice from Otto himself."
Elsie's heart stirred. Could it be that Chris really didn't meddle this time?
Who knew if what he was saying was true or not?
"The Morgan family has a large collection of artifacts. Before I returned to the country, I heard that some executive from PAT Marketing Company had gone to discuss it with them, but nothing came of it. This time, the Morgan family is actively showing interest in cooperation; it's like fishing - waiting for the Wilson family to offer more generous terms, and only then will the Morgan family reluctantly agree."
"So you see, the Morgan family coming to me seems like they're competing with your Wilson Group, but actually, the Morgan family is using me to pressure you into giving up more benefits."
Chris said smugly, "Daniel can't see this layer, and he won't think in this direction either."
"Why not?"
Elsie asked.
Chris sighed. Sure enough, Elsie had barely responded to everything he said earlier, but as soon as he mentioned Daniel, she became interested.
"Why else? Because I'm better than him."
"Daniel is extremely competitive and possessive. Whatever he sets his sights on, he gets. Usually, he seems gentle and refined, knows how to show weakness - that's all fake. Showing weakness is a privilege of the strong. The weak only have the right to cry."
The light turned from red to green, and the car began moving slowly forward.
Chris looked at the vehicles on both sides, casually glanced at Elsie, and a slight smile appeared at the corner of his mouth, filled with endless confidence:
"And I just happen to like taking his things."
This was clearly hinting at something.
Elsie didn't respond and closed her eyes to rest.
Chris didn't say anything more either.
In a daze, Elsie fell into a half-asleep state.
She didn't know how much time had passed.
Chris's phone rang.
But Chris seemed to dislike whoever was calling and put it on speaker.
"Hello, are you almost here? I'm waiting for you downstairs at the Morgan Group."
The caller was a woman with a pleasant voice.
Chris was clearly unhappy that she came and frowned: "What are you doing here?"
"I came to help you. Don't worry, I didn't sneak here. I got permission from your dad. Your dad said I should assist you well in your career, for the sake of our future together..."
The woman on the phone was obviously in a good mood.
"There's no future between us. Almost there, hanging up."
Chris interrupted rudely.
Elsie, with her eyes closed and breathing evenly, seemed to be asleep.
Except her eyelashes moved slightly.
"Stop pretending to sleep. You heard that, right?"
Despite saying this, Chris didn't look the least bit embarrassed. He actually seemed quite willing to let Elsie know more about him.
"You had it on speaker, I'm not deaf. It would be hard not to hear."
Elsie explained. She really hadn't meant to listen.
Just as she was half-asleep, the phone ringing had already woken her up.
Hearing it was a woman on the other end, she didn't open her eyes.
Women understand women best. When a woman likes a man, after the call connects, the woman will definitely be the first to speak.
Even if she was the one who called.
"It's fine. It's actually good for you to know more about my business. You'll find out sooner or later anyway."
Chris laughed.
"Mr. Diaz, I don't want to know about your business, not now or ever."
Elsie said warily, especially after just hearing that woman on the phone waiting for Chris at the Morgan Group.
She really regretted it now. She should have insisted on taking a taxi.
What if someone misunderstood? The company situation was already troublesome enough. Did she really need to create enemies outside the company, too?
"Stop the car. I'll take a taxi for the last part."
Elsie made her decision right away.
Chris wouldn't listen to her. It was only a few hundred feet away. Why would Elsie suddenly want to take a taxi? That made no sense. It was just a matter of stepping on the gas.
In less than a minute, the car slowly stopped in front of the Morgan Group.
A woman in a red trench coat clearly recognized the Maybach.
With a bright smile, she strode over to the car and knocked on the window.
Chris looked a bit helpless, but still slowly rolled down the window.
The woman smiled and was about to speak when she saw Elsie sitting in the passenger seat.
Her smile instantly disappeared.
