Chapter 682 Paxon’s Confession
Chapter 682 Paxon’s Confession
As he moved closer, Victoria's heart raced.
Her cheeks gradually grew hot.
That innocent childhood feeling had somehow changed without her realizing it.
Thinking about the way Yolanda looked at Paxon made her chest ache with sourness.
They'd been working together for the past three years.
No wonder Paxon had been contacting her less and less.
Turns out he had a beautiful woman by his side.
At this thought, Victoria angrily kicked Paxon, "Don't touch me. Go find Yolanda."
Seeing her puffed-up expression, Paxon grabbed her chin.
"Jealous?"
"What do I have to be jealous about?"
Paxon smiled and raised an eyebrow, "No? I can totally feel your jealousy."
Victoria pushed Paxon away and turned her head toward the window.
Thinking about what Yolanda said earlier made her angry.
Paxon had been abroad for three years, and he never mentioned her to anyone.
What was he thinking? Was she not good enough to mention, or did he have other intentions?
The more Victoria thought about it, the angrier she got.
Seeing her like this, Paxon cupped Victoria's face with both hands and forcibly turned it toward him.
Looking deeply into her eyes, "My little Victoria, what exactly do you want me to do? You were the one who said I was too controlling, that you had no freedom, and insisted on breaking off our engagement. Do you know how scared I was?
But whenever I saw you with other guys, I couldn't help wanting to control things. I just couldn't control myself. So to keep you from resenting me, I chose to go abroad.
Do you know how much I missed you abroad? But I didn't dare call you or text you, because I was afraid my need for control would make you uncomfortable.
So I threw myself completely into work, sleeping only three or four hours a day, sometimes pulling all-nighters.
I wanted to give you enough freedom to slowly grow up and change your feelings for me from family affection to romantic love.
You had so many guys around you, all of them great. I didn't want to use our engagement to limit your choices. I wanted to become the person you liked most.
Victoria, not contacting you wasn't because I didn't like you—it's because I liked you too much and was afraid of losing you. You know I waited for your messages every night. Even if you just sent me an 'I miss you' sticker, I would've been happy.
But you didn't. If I didn't reach out first, you never looked for me. When Ingrid came to see me, you didn't come along. I didn't know if you really didn't like me or if there was another reason.
But what I want to tell you is that for three years, 1,095 days, every single day I thought about my little Victoria. I imagined her in a wedding dress marrying me, imagined the happy life we'd build together.
Victoria, I like you—not some fake kind of like, but the kind where I want to marry you and bring you home. Do you understand?"
Hearing such a long confession, Victoria would be lying if she said she wasn't moved.
Tears welled up in her eyes.
Her voice became hoarse, "I thought you were ignoring me because you liked someone else. You didn't even come home during breaks, and I thought you didn't want to see me, so that's why I didn't contact you."
"Silly girl, you're the woman I've known since childhood. How could I not like you? But what about you—can you tell in your heart whether your feelings for me are family affection or romantic love?"
If this question had been asked before, Victoria would have really hesitated.
But Yolanda's appearance just now had caused a big shift in her feelings.
She got angry because Yolanda liked Paxon. She was afraid Yolanda would steal him away, so she deliberately mentioned their engagement.
She was no longer like before, willing to share Paxon with others. She wanted to have him all to herself.
Could it be that liking someone means wanting to possess them?
Just like how Paxon felt about her.
But her possessiveness wasn't that strong yet. Did that mean her feelings weren't deep enough?
Victoria's bright eyes lowered, her voice a bit shy, "Maybe I like you a little bit."
Hearing this, Paxon smiled contentedly, "A little bit is enough. I'll work hard to deepen those feelings. I also believe you'll fall in love with me—so deeply you won't be able to help yourself."
Victoria had just been feeling guilty, thinking her feelings weren't as deep as Paxon's.
The next second, she heard him say something so arrogant.
She felt a bit defiant, "Don't be so overconfident. What if I fall for someone else?"
Paxon smiled and ruffled her hair, "How about we make a bet? If I can't make you fall in love with me within six months, you get to decide whether we continue with the engagement. How about it?"
Seeing how confident he looked, Victoria didn't hold back, "You said it. Don't regret it later."
"Whoever regrets it loses."
"Fine, it's a deal."
Watching her competitive spirit, Paxon smiled.
Victoria had been rebellious since childhood, not obedient like other girls.
The more you told her not to do something, the more she wanted to try it.
It was the same with their marriage. The more he pushed her, the more she disagreed and resented the engagement.
So he gave her enough space to choose.
No longer using the engagement to bind her, letting her lower her guard—that would actually help their relationship develop.
The next morning, Victoria was woken by a phone ringing.
She groggily answered.
"Hello, who is it? Don't you know you're interrupting my sleep?"
Paxon's deep, serious voice came through, "Victoria, it's 8,40. You have twenty minutes. If you're late, you lose this month's bonus."
Victoria's head buzzed. Only then did she remember—today she was supposed to start work at ZERO Corporation.
She immediately sat up in bed, huffing, "Why didn't you call earlier? You deliberately wanted me to be late."
Paxon chuckled, "The company has hundreds of employees. Should I give them all morning calls?"
"Paxon, if you want to see me embarrassed, no way."
With that, she hung up.
She quickly got dressed and drove out.
A journey that normally took forty minutes, she completed in just eighteen.
Standing at the company entrance clocking in, Victoria's lips curved in a satisfied smile.
Just then, she heard a familiar voice.
"Ms. Cross, Paxon has meetings all day today and no time to see you. You should go back."
Victoria slowly turned around to see Yolanda in a business suit, carrying a laptop bag.
Her face wore the smile of a victor.
Victoria didn't mind. Instead, she walked over with a smile.
She pulled out her employee badge and showed it to her, "Didn't Paxon tell you? Starting today, I'm his personal secretary. We'll get to see each other every day now. Ms. Sharp, surprised? Unexpected?"
