Chapter 209 Amalie

Chapter 209 Amalie
“You seem to be doing better,” Rebekah says as she sits in the living room. She sets her bag down beside the couch.

“I am,” I say excitedly as pull out my journal. Two weeks ago, Rebekah had brought me a journal. She told me to write down whatever I was feeling in the moment. Whether it be words or pictures, just fill it with feelings.

“Good, I’ve enjoyed our sessions over the last three months,” she says with a smile. “Next week is your baby shower, right?”

“Yes, and you are still coming?” I ask excitedly.

“I wouldn’t miss it,” she laughs as she pulls out her notebook.

“Thank you so much,” I tell her.

“Now, let’s get to what you’ve been writing,” she says.

“I’ve been thinking about what I want to say to my sister and mother,” I tell her. “I’ve been worried about what Devin will do. We’ve not heard a whisper about him in months.”

“We’ll get to Devin next, as he is something you can’t control. But let’s start with your family,” she advises.

I open my journal to the last three pages that I had wrote on, notes and other things scribbled across the pages. The word reconciliation is crossed out with red ink. I may have gone a little overboard with that.

“What are you going to do about them?” Rebekah asks.

“Cal and Mark are waiting for me to decide, but I know the guards are getting tired of having to watch my mother and sister,” I sigh. “Ben mentioned that Melissa has been screaming herself raw daily. Marie just cries.”

Rebekah just nods her head.

“If I want them killed, does that make me worse than them?” I ask honestly. It had been something I was struggling with.

“They imprisoned their future Luna. They tortured a fellow pack member. They abused their own daughter. If this was someone who had been hurt, what would you order as the Luna?” the other Luna asks.

“Pack law is clear that they would face either death or banishment with marks showing their crimes,” I say quickly. “But it wasn’t someone else. It was me. I am their daughter and they treated me worse than trash.”

“True, and so that gives you the right to decide their punishment. You are their daughter and their Luna,” she points out.

“I know and that makes it so much worse,” I bemoan in defeat.

“I know that. But you also have to remember that if you do not uphold pack law, then others may try worse,” she points out. “Being Luna sometimes is not a glamorous job.”

“I’m finding that out,” I laugh harshly.

“Those that are not destined to be Lunas think that our jobs are just sitting there and looking pretty. That we plan parties and pretend to be perfect mates. But being a Luna means that we are so much more. We are wolves protecting our pack from threats inside and out,” she tells me sternly.

“I know,” I sigh.

“But knowing and doing are two different things,” Rebekah replies simply with a nod of understanding. “My first mate was abusive. It took months for me to get out of his house and to finally get to Harold so he could listen to me. Every time I escaped, my first mate would cut me off and say that I was just in hysterics, we had just lost our pup in childbirth.”

“Alec was a respected warrior and who would believe a grieving mother? He knew I would try to go straight to the Alpha. William was the only one who believed me. We were neighbors at the time. When Alec would go on patrols, William would sneak over and help patch me up.

“Harold’s father despised William for being gay. He spread rumors that William was dangerous and would turn others gay. Harold’s father believed that being gay was a sickness. So, William was stuck not being able to tell anyone about the abuse,” she explains.

“What changed?” I interrupt.

Rebekah laughs, “Harold got hurt in a rogue attack. Our previous pack doctor had been killed as well. William was the only medical competent person around. Harold had laughed when William walked into his exam room and tripped over his own feet. William told me later that Harold had stated, ‘Who could ever be terrified of wolf who trips over their own feet.’ Harold came around more often and talked with William.

“Two months after their friendship started, Harold’s father died. He had attacked humans camping in their territory and hunters hunted him down. When the pack tried to retaliate, Harold’s mother stopped them. Her courage gave me the courage to break the mate bond. As soon as it was, I ran to William, knowing that Harold would be with him,” she finishes.

“He’s your second chance mate,” I say with wonder.

“First actually. Alec and I were chosen mates. We fell in love during high school and agreed to be mates,” she sighs.

“Why didn’t you try to find your fated mate?” I demand. I try not to be judgmental, but from the look she throws at me, I was not successful.

“We were young and in love. I was stupid and thought no one would ever love me. Alec told me that he was the only one who would love me. Looking back on it, I realize that it was verbal abuse and manipulation on his part,” Rebekah says.

“I’m sorry,” I tell her.

“Don’t be. Getting out, it made me want to do something important. If William was going to be a doctor for the body, I would be a doctor to help those who needed one for their mind,” she laughs.

I think over her story. “What happened to your first mate?”

“Harold had him executed,” she says simply. Something must cross my face because she explains, “He did not execute Harold simply because I became his mate. Harold looked at the abuse I had suffered. If Alec was banished, he could hurt someone else. Killing him, meant that he would be able to protect others. If your sister and mother are banished, will they hurt others or not?”

“I don’t know. Melissa is verbally abusive more than anything. She would shove me but not hurt me. Marie and Thomas were my physical abusers. Marie would suggest the type of torture I should endure. Melissa was scarred from Cal’s claws. I think banishment and the scars would be punishment enough for the girl who’s obsessed with looks,” I say.

Rebekah nods her head in understanding. She does not push.

“My mother, Marie, I think that if given the chance, she will continue to hurt others. She enjoyed my pain,” I say as I try not to growl.

“What would you order, Luna?” Rebekah asks.

“I recommend that she be put to death,” I say as I blink back tears. “I recommend that she be put to death so she can no longer hurt anyone.”
