Chapter 553 Listen to Wife's Arrangements
Chapter 553 Listen to Wife's Arrangements
"Did you really forgive Glenna?" Nancy asked, puzzled.
"I don't know," Edward replied, looking a bit lost. "I should hate her, but I also feel sorry for her. Ultimately, it's all fate's doing. So, I'm trying to forgive her. Nancy, do you think I'm wrong?"
Nancy shook her head. "No way. I'm a mom too, so I get where Glenna's coming from. The difference is, I wouldn't hurt others."
Edward stroked her hair. "I promise, if she doesn't keep her word and disband the organization, I'll take it down myself."
"Okay, I trust you."
They walked back to the farm, leaning on each other. Chris and Edith were already waiting at the door.
As soon as Edith saw Nancy, tears streamed down her face.
"Nancy, it's so good to see you alive! From now on, we'll face everything together. I won't let you go on any more dangerous missions alone. You have no idea how much I've been worrying about you..."
"Alright," Chris interrupted, "let's get Nancy inside. She looks exhausted."
Nancy's skin was pale, almost translucent, from over a month without sunlight. Thankfully, Marlee had taken good care of her, so she didn't look too bad.
Edith quickly stepped aside. "Got it, got it. Nancy, come in. Are your wounds still hurting? I'll get you some painkillers."
"No need," Nancy quickly stopped her. "I'm almost fully recovered, really."
They moved to the living room and sat down. Nancy handed a bottle of medicine to Chris. "If we take this for a month, the toxins in our bodies will be completely cleared. We won't need antidotes anymore. You can finally do whatever you want without being stuck in the lab all the time."
Edith was both surprised and delighted. "What? Nancy, you got the antidote that completely removes the toxins? You're amazing! Am I dreaming?"
Chris looked skeptically at the medicine in his hand. "I've never heard of the organization having such an antidote. How did you get this, Nancy?"
"Just because you haven't heard of it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Test it in the lab first. If it works, we're saved." Nancy's voice choked up.
Ever since they escaped the organization, their biggest wish was to rid themselves of the toxins.
Now that this wish was about to come true, it was no wonder Chris was skeptical. Even Nancy felt it was surreal.
Chris glanced at Nancy, then at Edward. His gut told him it wasn't that simple, but he knew now wasn't the time to discuss it. He grabbed the medicine and headed straight to the lab.
If this really was the antidote, it would be incredible.
Edith, oblivious to any underlying issues, bombarded Nancy with questions. Nancy answered them one by one until Edward couldn't hold back. "Nancy needs to rest. She's very tired."
It was already midnight, and Nancy was pregnant. She must be exhausted.
Edward looked at Edith, frustrated by her lack of awareness. If it weren't for her close relationship with Nancy, he would have kicked her out long ago.
"Oh right, Nancy, get some rest. I'll head out now."
"Okay, goodnight." Nancy waved at her.
Edward let out a small sigh of relief. "Finally."
Nancy found his reaction amusing. "Don't be like that. Edith was just worried about me."
"I know," Edward said, taking her hand. "Let's go to bed. Where's your room?"
"Upstairs, around the corner."
Though her body was tired, Nancy couldn't sleep once she lay down. Her nerves were still on edge, unable to believe they had truly escaped that terrifying base.
Well, not escaped—they had walked out openly.
Everything felt like a dream, too unreal, almost absurd.
Nancy started to worry about how to explain things to Chris and Edith tomorrow. If she told them Edward was Glenna's son, would they accept it?
"What are you thinking about instead of sleeping?" Edward propped himself up to look at her.
"Nothing," Nancy turned away, feeling guilty. "Just too much has happened recently. It's hard to sleep. But now I'm getting sleepy. Let's sleep."
"Are you worried about how to explain my identity to Chris and Edith?"
"Yes." Her voice was muffled.
"If you don't know how to explain, let me do it. They can beat me up, I won't fight back."
Nancy sat up abruptly. "Are you crazy? They really might kill you! I'll explain it to them. Don't do anything rash, okay?"
Edward smiled. "Got it. I'll follow your lead."
Their eyes met, and Edward leaned down to kiss the lips he had longed for.
As if trying to make up for lost time, Edward held her so tightly Nancy could barely breathe.
Finally, Nancy found a moment to catch her breath. She turned her head and gasped, covering Edward's restless mouth with her hand. "Stop, you'll hurt the baby."
Hearing about the baby, Edward calmed down, though his eyes were still filled with desire.
"Nancy, I'm struggling. Can you help me?" He guided her hand down to his hard, hot spot.
Nancy's face turned bright red, and she quickly pulled her hand back.
"Actually, I have something important to tell you."
Edward buried his head in her neck, inhaling her scent. "No rush, tell me tomorrow."
"I want to say it now," Nancy shrank back. "Edward, you've always wanted to know who Juliana's birth mother is, right?"
Edward frowned, feeling his blood run cold.
"Nancy, do you have to bring this up now?"
He had already guessed he was set up by Aria and Gavin, so he didn't care who Juliana's birth mother was. He even felt disgusted by the unknown woman.
Nancy blinked. "Don't you want to know who she is? She gave you a child, after all."
"I don't want to know. She better not show up, or else..."
"Or else what?"
"Nancy, why are you bringing this up now? Do you still doubt my love for you and want to test me with Juliana's birth mother?"
"No, no," Nancy waved her hands. "I trust you. I'm not testing you."
"Then why mention her?"
Nancy took a deep breath, preparing to reveal the truth.
