Chapter 552 I Will Not Forgive You
Chapter 552 I Will Not Forgive You
Edward shook his head gently. "I'm not threatening you. I'm just being honest."
"Glenna," Simon said, taking her hand again, "Edward's right. We need a fresh start. If you don't want to go back to the country, I'll go anywhere you want."
For years, Simon had lived in pain and torment, staying by Glenna's side to atone for his sins.
But deep down, he knew what Glenna was doing was wrong. He couldn't stop her, so he tried his best not to get involved in those evil deeds. Yet, some things were beyond his control, and he had done many wrong things as well.
But he would never forget that Glenna was once an innocent girl. If she hadn't fallen in love with him, she could have lived a carefree life.
It was he and his mother who had turned Glenna into what she was now.
"And what about her? Edward might forgive us, but can she? I bet she wants to kill us," Glenna said, pointing at Nancy with a provocative smile.
Nancy hadn't expected the conversation to turn to her. Edward's words had made her uncomfortable, but she understood him.
After all, these two were his biological parents, and they hadn't harmed him, so there was no problem with what he said.
But what about her? She had been truly hurt by Glenna.
And there were Chris and Edith, and those other friends who had died tragically. What right did she have to forgive on their behalf?
Edward turned and pulled Nancy into his arms, whispering in her ear, "You don't have to forgive them. Even though you're my wife, you don't have to forgive them for my sake."
Nancy felt relieved. She looked Glenna in the eye, her gaze firm. "I won't forgive you. I did think about killing you, but I've changed my mind."
"Edward is my love, and I don't want to make him sad. So, I won't do anything to hurt you. I also won't stop Edward from seeing you. When our child is born, I won't teach them to hate you."
"As long as the organization is disbanded and no one else gets hurt, let the past fade away."
Nancy smiled bitterly after speaking.
She wondered what Chris and Edith would think if they heard her words. They'd probably think she was blinded by love.
But now, she loved Edward with all her heart, and there was a new life growing inside her. She couldn't bring herself to kill Glenna and Simon.
She didn't want her child to be burdened with the lives of their grandparents before they were even born.
Glenna asked, "What if I don't disband the organization?"
Nancy shrugged. "If you don't want to disband it, there's nothing I can do. But if I get the chance, I will destroy it. You're going to be a grandmother. I suggest you do something good for your descendants."
"Mom, it's not too late to stop now. You haven't heard Juliana call you grandma yet, have you? When we go back, we'll tell her about her grandparents, and about the baby in Nancy's belly. Don't you want to see their birth?" Edward urged.
Glenna's heart began to waver. The future Edward painted was so beautiful, she couldn't refuse.
Then she thought of someone, and it pulled her out of her beautiful fantasy. "But how could that old hag agree? She can't stand to see our family happy. Stop trying to fool me. Go back now, or don't blame me for being rude!"
"Mom!" Edward looked into her eyes, trying to comfort her. "Don't worry. I'm grown up now. The Smith family is under my control. I won't let Grandma tear us apart again."
Simon looked at his son, feeling deeply gratified.
He squeezed Glenna's hand. "Edward's right. What are you still holding on to? It's time to stop. We can't keep making mistakes."
"I... I..." Glenna broke down, throwing herself into Simon's arms, crying.
The strong Glenna finally showed her vulnerable side. The events of those years had hit her too hard. For decades, she had lived in hatred, never thinking she would reunite with her son.
Simon patted her back, trying to comfort her. "It's over. It's all over..."
Seeing this, Edward and Nancy leaned into each other, their hearts filled with mixed emotions.
After Glenna calmed down, she lifted her head from Simon's embrace and walked straight toward Nancy.
Seeing her approach, Nancy tensed up, her whole body on edge.
Edward patted her hand, whispering, "Don't be afraid. I'm here."
Glenna stopped in front of Nancy, smiling. "You're luckier than me. Edward is much braver than his father, and you're brave too. I won't apologize for the past, but I will disband the organization. Consider it a gift for my daughter-in-law. You can leave now and never come back."
She then looked at Edward. "Edward, thank you for not blaming me. I'm sorry I missed your growing up. Take your wife and go back. Always protect her and your child, just like today."
Glenna had finally let go.
Edward and Nancy's situation was almost identical to theirs back then. She hated Monica and didn't want to repeat the tragedy of the past, nor did she want to break up her son's marriage.
All the grudges and hatred ended here. For the rest of her life, she wanted to live for herself.
Nancy and Edward exchanged a glance. Edward let go of her and stepped forward to gently hug Glenna. "You had your difficulties back then. I don't blame you. I hope you won't hate Grandma anymore. Though her actions were extreme, from her perspective, she didn't do anything wrong."
"That's right," Glenna smiled bitterly. "I wanted to be as ruthless as she was back then, but I couldn't. In the end, my heart wasn't hard enough."
Simon came over and hugged them both. "It's not that your heart wasn't hard enough. It's that your love for your son surpassed everything. Edward and I will always remember your sacrifice."
Seeing the family reconcile, Nancy felt an unprecedented sense of relief.
After a moment, they separated, and Glenna wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Go now. Don't worry. I'll keep my word. Once everything is settled, I'll disband the organization and donate all the money to charity. I won't do those things anymore."
"Will you go back to the country?" Edward asked.
"No," Glenna looked at Simon. "If you want to go back, go with them. I just want to find a place where no one knows me and spend the rest of my days."
Simon held her hand tightly. "I'll stay with you, no matter where you go."
...
After leaving the organization, Nancy felt like she had been through a lifetime.
"Edward, we're free."
"Yeah, we're free."
