Chapter 63
"I was hoping that we could chat.” Jax said.
I nodded at Nazari which was his cue to leave and so did Alizac. We stood there in silence, and I knew there were a million things he wanted to say but he knew with the wrong thing it could turn back. I don’t blame him. I wish this time I could be his crutch.
“You were right, I was not giving you a choice. I want you to know I had a lot to think about and you’re the most important thing in my life. I want to be better for you and for our baby. I will work with you about everything but moving. I can’t do it.”
“So, you didn’t even think? You want this to just blow over so I can be disappointed. I am tired. I have a baby in my stomach and it’s making me tired, and you want to bullshit me. I am going to say this once and never again. Jax, I am rejecting you as my mate. I know that doesn’t exist, but I want you to hear it. I am not running in circles with you. We don’t work. I am not good for you and you’re not good for me. Grow up before this kid comes.”
There was no happy ending where the girl ends up with her mate. Sometimes even soulmates don’t end up with each other and I was starting to see that. When you invest yourself into someone because you’re supposed to be with them but really there is to be a lesson. That’s exactly what it was. I got my stuff from the kingdom and moved to my Dad’s pack. I kept in contact with Jax, but it was only baby-related. I didn’t want a friendship but just us getting along. I took this time to figure myself out and learn to be alone and It gave me the chance to grow up. I was grown up. Between running hell and building relationships with all my siblings I needed to.
I was a month away from giving birth and if I tell you I am miserable it is because I meant it. I had Nazari being in charge mainly for the reason that I was too tired all the time to go down there. He has been such a great help with everything, and I couldn’t be thankful. I know it seems like the end of the story was coming but it only felt like the beginning.
“Ry, have you been sitting out here for about eight hours? Are you ok?”
Nazari showed up for his end-of-the-week report and I was outside of my house on a rocker. I looked up to him and just extended my arms to him and he pulled to lift me up. You know I don’t know where the glow went because I can promise you it’s just sweat. I shook my head because talking was too much work.
“How about after I take you, we go get some food?” He asked.
“As long as you get the wheelbarrow because my feet are the size of Texas.”
He extended his elbow for me to grab and to which I did, and we began to walk to the clinic. It was nice to have a friend because if you think about it. I’ve never really had one. I was not only a Queen but a mateless one and it shouldn’t be up to Athena to make it, so we had to be with that person. Jax was the right one, but he just wasn’t for me either. Maybe in another life but for now, I am happy with where I am at.
We arrived and he joined me in the room that had that an ultrasound machine in here. I held out for a long time for the gender but now it was time. Jax was supposed to come but he’s not been very present either. The door popped open, and My dad, Jack, and Athena came in. This was all I needed. I got a hug from all of them as I lifted up my shirt that showed my big ass belly. The doctor came in and kind of freaked out with how many people were in the room but went straight to sitting down.
“Alright Ryleigh, the gel is a little cold.”
I jumped a bit because it was cool. She started moving around until she found the baby. She looked around weirdly. I think everyone started to notice when she got out of the chair and ran into the hall.
“I need someone to schedule the O.R. for me.”
She ran back inside, and I just had a heart attack. What was going on?
“Ryleigh, we need to perform an emergency c-section. The fluid is low, and your baby’s heartbeat is slowing down. We have no time to discuss.”
I started to freak out when the wheels on the chair started moving. I was alone and I didn’t want to be.
“I want Nazari to be here, please.” I begged.
The doctor mind-linked a nurse and within minutes he was through the door in the blue scrubs. He sat by my side as they put a sheet to where I couldn’t see my stomach. He held my hand and that’s what I needed right now.
“Hey, it’s okay, I am right here. Everything is okay.” He whispered in my eye.
I felt the dampness on my face when I was suddenly feeling woozy as they injected the drugs into me. I was still awake, but I was focused on Nazari. Everything had to be alright. I don’t remember what happened, but I was sobbing.
“Ryleigh, we need you to stay still. Everything is okay, just relax.”
The doctor tried to calm me, but I couldn’t stop. But with an instant, I relaxed when Nazari had placed his lips on mine bringing me down.
