Chapter 64

I don’t know if it was because I was high as a kite, but I felt higher than usual. I had forgotten what was happening until I heard a cry. I looked up still dizzy and Nazari was waving his hands as they placed the baby in his arms. He knew it was not his, but he just relaxed into it. I think he forgot it was mine because he looked at it and just smile.

“Congrats it’s a girl.”

He placed her head near mine and I reached up to rub her tiny face. My daughter. Nothing matters except for that moment.

“Your pup is premature, so we have to take her to NICU okay?” she said.

I just nodded and watch as she reached for the baby from Nazari’s arms. I felt myself slipping into a deep sleep and before I knew it, I was waking up in a hospital room. I looked around and felt pressure on my chest and looked down to see my baby in my hospital gown. Athena’s hand was there and at my side.

“She is beautiful, I wanted to give some skin-to-skin time for you both. Do you have a name?” She asked.

I placed my arms around her tiny body and just looked at her. I don’t know what she looks like or who she is. Nothing this beautiful deserves such a plain name.

“Talia. Her name is Talia.”

Who would know that I’d have my baby this early and I was ready for it all? But there was one person that needed to be informed. I pointed to my phone and Jack had grabbed it for me. I opened up my contact and clicked Jax’s name. A video call should suffice. I felt nerves spike while it rang until he answered.

“Hey, Ry, what’s up?”

I zoomed my phone out to show her in the video call.

“Meet your daughter. She decided to make her entrance a month early.”

I saw the look on his face, and it was shock. He was in shock. But he was smiling while he stared at the tiny pup on me.

“I will be there in a few hours. I can’t wait to meet her. You look beautiful as well.”

And with that, the phone ended. I needed a lot of help knowing I had been cut but I knew I’d heal in time. Fairytales aren’t just finding your prince. No fairytales are more than that. When you walk up and see your family all there. I hadn’t seen Nazari since then, but I hadn’t forgotten that he kissed me. Did he do that only to calm me down or was that real? It wasn’t the right time to think about this. The day passed, and everyone had gone home so now it was just me and Talia. I’ve learned to breastfeed her well and just fully connect to this being who depends on me. I heard a knock on the door and looked up to see Jax in the door with flowers. He also had a trail of people being him which included my parents, Alizac, his parents, etc. They all came in, oohing and aawing.

“I had a C-section, so I won’t be able to lift her in my arms. But she’s been feeding for a while so if one of you would like to lift her out of my arms that would be great.”

Jax was at my side and was rubbing her tiny cheek while she ate. You could see the tiny tear on his cheek. He bent down and placed a kiss on my forehead before he slowly placed his arm under her head and other under her body before placing her comfortably in her hands.

“I am kind of jealous she is the spitting image of you. But she is beautiful, Ryleigh.”

One by one they all passed her around and I knew it would be the best time to sleep before she is hungry again. That’s exactly what I did too. I heard her crying and I immediately woke up. He was bouncing her and looks relieved that I woke up.

“Can someone help me sit up?”

Alizac was the first to do so and as soon as I did Jax placed her in my arms so I could feed her. I led back while she latched and just closed my eyes. I was exhausted and hurting but I was glad I was healing quickly. Jax looked at everyone and seconds later they left the room. He sat on the bed and just watched her as she ate.

“I’ve been doing a lot of thinking Ry, and you’re right I was pushing things to the side. Nothing made sense until I saw her face and realized I don’t want to miss a second of her growing up. I miss you and if that means I move here then I will. Please just give me another chance even if I don’t deserve it.

From the corner of my eyes, I saw Nazari standing at the door, and I think he was bummed out. I felt sad because that means I will never know what that kiss meant. I owe it to myself to find out what it meant. He just smiled and nodded his head and that was him telling me to give it a chance. It feels like Jax is just a little too late regardless of how much I love him. I looked back at Jax and then to the door to see that he was no longer there. I could be a family with Jax, and we could be the happiest ever with trust issues. Or I find out how Nazari felt and if it’s what I think it is, we could try right? So, I said nothing. Nothing at all. But I always needed to find out before I make a choice and it be wrong.
