Chapter 11

Azrial was broken as he turned towards the she wolf. He wanted to say so many things and yet there wasn’t anything right that he could have uttered that would have made up for the crime that he had committed. He turned towards the master as he said to him, “We have to look out for the others. there are forty in total who took the undiluted compound.” He said and the master nodded his head at him in understanding.

“Alpha, if we see them, are we to kill him?” He heard the man say and he gulped at his words. The truth was that he himself didn’t know how to answer. But he had to think about the safety of the pack as a whole. “Yes, “ he found himself saying.

With that they ran off in opposite directions through the pack. He could hear his own heart beat rush through his ears as he followed the sounds of the growls and howl of the wolves that were in front of him. He pulled open the tent flap and he found a large black wolf growling loudly with foam in his mouth as he snapped at a family in front of him.

He came inside and gestured for the family to go. They were reluctant to go at first but after a warning growl from him they scurried away with tears streaming down their faces. He reached out for the wolf and grabbed it by the scruff of its neck. It tried to fight him but he was much stronger.

He contemplated knocking him out but when he looked into the glowing eyes of the creature he was already well aware of the fact that it was too far gone. This had been the last thing that he wanted to do but with a heavy heart he reached into the wolf’s chest and pulled out its heart. He heard it let out a final whimper before it fell to the ground dead.

He heard similar whimpers ring through the pack and he tried to not allow himself to be affected by them but the truth was that it was hard for him to ignore the sounds. Especially since he had been the one responsible for them. He made his way out of the tent as his skin was covered in blood and he was met with the sight of the pack members staring at him with anger in their features.

He didn’t want to meet their gaze any more as he felt his body clouded with his own shame. He turned away and watched as the master and elder came over to him. “We warned you not to go on your foolish escapade but you refused to listen and now see what you have done. You have cost us too many lives and for what?So you could prove that you are good enough to hold the title of alpha? You will never be good enough to be an alpha.” He spat and the elder then turned towards the pack.

Azrial felt absolutely defeated. He had thought that he had done everything right. he had followed all of the rules properly and he had still ended up doing the wrong thing. “people of silver pack. Here is your alpha. Because of him we have lost too many people. We can't allow him to go unpunished. I suggest that we hold a trial against him to see if he is worthy of remaining alpha and to choose a suitable punishment for the crimes that he has committed.” Azrial heard the elder say and he heard several people hum in agreement.

“The trial will be held tomorrow and it will then be used to determine if he is fit to keep his title.” He spoke and the tribe cheered. Azrial almost laughed at the irony. He had been out to save the people and yet the only thing that he had ended up doing was to destroy them. He felt completely defeated and also pathetic.

He didn’t even fight as he was led towards the cage where they kept prisoners. He didn’t know what tomorrow held but he had an inkling that he wasn’t likely to make it out alive. At least he could know that the flower worked in some way and that it could in fact cure the sick in a dilute form. He would know that his people lived and that it wasn’t due to him that his pack went extinct.

He struggled to sleep that night as he spent the time tossing and turning. When he managed to close his eyes he was met with a darkness that encompassed him. There was a white light that seemed just out of reach and just as he was about to crap a hold of it he felt something pull. Him and yank him back.

He was woken up by the sound of a loud growling sound. He was shaken as he heard the sound of wood splintering. He pulled his eyes open and let out a gasp at the sight of the pack or at least what was left of it. the entire place was left in utter disarray. There were huts that had been burned to the ground and several items set in fire. He looked around his cage which had a large crack on the side of it. He turned then towards the source of the sound and he saw a giant wolf in front of him.

As he stepped towards the center of the pack several questions rang through his head as he looked around but there was no one there. There were a few brazen wolves but not one of them were werewolves but when one of them stared at him directly he couldn’t help but sense some familiarity in those eyes and that was when he gasped as it finally dawned on him. They weren’t wolves it was his pack.
