Chapter 10

Azrial looked up towards the scene that was in front of him and felt his heart beat pick up, “What is happening to him?” He heard Garth ask from beside him as they both turned towards the man that was in front of them. They watched as he began to writhe around on the floor as he let out a loud cry from his lips. Azrial was able to snap out of his trance-like state quick enough to rush over to his side.

He was soon following behind everyone and realized the injured man was one of the warriors and they gasped and began to mutter slowly at the sight. “Everyone stay calm. I assure you that there is nothing wrong. I am sure that there is a perfectly good explanation for his condition.” He spoke as his words echoed through the room. But he didn’t know who he was trying to convince, whether it was the people or himself.

He reached out for the young man’s hand and he was able to immediately recognize him as one of the pack warriors . He had foam beginning to form round his mouth and Azrial needled down beside him as he put his hand in his. He was never very good at trying to comfort people but this was his pack and his family.

“Someone call the maester. Tell him to come over here and do something.” He yelled out and he watched as they all seemed to snap out of their trance-like state as they rushed over towards the scene.

He watched as the maester made his way through the crowd as he leaned down in front of them. “He just let out a scream at the top of his lungs and then he began to cry out in pain.

“We tried to help him but it was no use.” Jan called out and Azrial nodded his head at their words. He turned towards the pack as he communicated with them mentally.

“I need everyone to remain calm and not worry. Everything is going to be alright I assure you of this. If you are his mate or his family you may stay but for now I am going to have to ask everyone to go back home. This bonfire is over until further notice and until we are able to fully find out what is going on with him.” Azrial spoke and he watched as they began to mutter incoherently under their breaths before they turned to leave.

One girl in particular stayed behind and she moved over towards him unsurely. “Are you his mate?” He asked and he watched as she nodded her head at him before she muttered under her breath. ”Yes, Alpha, we just found each other last week. Please don’t let him die.” She wailed and he watched as tears welled up in her eyes.

He let out a sigh as he tried to comfort her and said to her. “We will do everything that we can to save him but for now he is going to need you to stay here with him and hold his hand and try to comfort him.” He said to her and she nodded her head.

She gasped, causing Azrial to turn his attention to what he was looking at and he watched as she widened her eyes as she took in the sight of the blue color that tinged the tips of his finger. They watched as his finger began to coil back on themselves and she once again let out a scream.

He flew his eyes open and they noticed that they were a bright blue before he let out a groan as his bones began to crack as the symptoms of a shift came over him. “what do we do masseter? Give him a poppy to calm him.” He ordered and the maester slowly shook his head at him.

“That will not work. I am afraid to think he is too far gone.” The Alpha let out a vicious growl as he pulled the mate away. He turned back to the rabid wolf who continued to snap and growl. He leaned over and grabbed a hold of his neck before he was able to easily snap it. They all heard a howl before he was knocked unconscious.

He grabbed a hold of the master’s arm as he pulled him aside before he hissed at him as he said, “What the hell is going on. What is happening to him?” He demanded. He felt dread come over him as he turned towards the Alpha and said to him, “I don’t know how to explain this to you alpha but the cause of the side effects are from the flower it is the one that is causing the yellow tinge and the blue fingertips.

Azrial pulled away as he felt as though cold water had been splashed over his body. He tried to shake his head and attempted to deny it but he knew it was true.

“So, what do we do now? Why have the others been affected?” Azrial asked and he watched as the man let out a sigh before going on to explain to him, “you gave him the concentrated version while the others could have gotten diluted ones from their mates blood.” He explained and before they could say anything they heard the wolf growl again as he moved in front of them.

Azrial took a protective stance as the wolf began to charge towards them. He remained firm as he looked at it directly in the eye. The wolf raced towards him with quick speed and tried to scratch his chest causing him to hiss in pain.

He had no time to react as the wolf bit down on his arm and he roared in pain as on instinct he reached into the wolf’s chest with all his might and pulled out his heart. He heard a whimper coming from behind him and turned around to see that it was the man’s mate.

He dropped the heart on the ground as he heard several more growls coming from around him and the only thing that was going through his head was…

What had he done?
