Finding Help
Finding Help
Alea's POV
We walked further into the quarantined area and my gaze caught sight of someone trying to escape one of the quarantined rooms into the restricted area around the quarantined site.
I bet Kairo noticed that too.
It was a lady's figure, I caught that. As soon as she wanted to exit through the door at the other end of the room, I quickly rushed him, grabbing her by the shirt as I tossed her back into the room, making her fall to the ground.
I had expected her to be someone so skilled in martial arts and she seemed to be an intruder but it turned out it was Cassie.
“Cassie?...” I called, shocked.
“What are you doing here? You got the pandemic?” I asked, heart beating so fast.
She looked at me, a mixture of fear and disgust.
“Isn't it obvious? She was trying to sneak back out after sneaking in” Kairo said, watching her with a non amused face.
My gaze darted to the bed beneath us and what I saw shocked me. My stepmother was lying on the bed, eyes closed like she was asleep.
She had been infected. Her face had spots that looked like it was from the pandemic.
“Your mother…..?” My voice was low, careful and pitiful.
“No matter how grave her situation must have been, you have no right to come in here unauthorized,” Kairo said, not caring about who she was.
Cassie gulped before she stood up from the floor where I had pushed her.
“I…I wanted to see my Mom” She stuttered and though I knew she was supposed to be quarantined too, I told Kairo to let her go.
We couldn't possibly place her together in the same place as the infected patients.
“Caught another one sneaking in? Bring her here, Luna” I heard the physician's voice behind me and I turned, watching as he pointed to a well guarded room at the end of the camp.
One of the guards took Cassie by the arm, placing a face mask on her as he dragged her gently towards the room the physician had talked about.
She made him stop and then faced me.
“Alea…save my mother. Please save my mother” Cassie was almost crying and then she was gone, dragged into the room.
Memories about how they had treated me flooded in and I couldn't help but tear up again. Under no circumstances should I help this woman even if I had the power to, but I wouldn't think of the ill relationship between us. The lives at stake come first here.
I checked the room where Cassie had been taken into and then realized that it was a room for the people who had come to check in on their family member and had been kept here in different spaces to see if they were showing symptoms of the pandemic.
“Let's go, Alea. We have to talk with the ministers and find a solution to this” Kairo said and I nodded, hesitating for a while before walking out with him.
We returned to the palace and though we thought the ministers would have dispersed, they were still there, waiting for our return.
We took our seats once again and stared at them before Kairo decided to talk.
“I'm sorry we haven't been here when all these had been happening. I'm sorry our pack members had to go through suffering like that” Kairo said.
“As the Phantom Queen, I know I'm supposed to protect the people, but I was in a situation where I could barely prorect myself, we are so sorry ministers” I added. “We will do everything to find out what had befallen us and then find a solution to it” I said and they bowed, chorusing the same words.
“Thanks for your immense grace, Alpha”
“Thanks for your immense grace, Luna”
Then the meeting was dismissed and while I still sat on the throne lost in my thoughts about how to take care of the situation, I sighed.
Medical care only doesn't seem like it will heal them completely, I couldn't stop thinking the physicians were only being able to hold them together for a while.
Then I remembered something important.
Elder Darin.
The Elder who seemed like he knew most things than most normal people do. I had to see him, he have to be here and moreover, I haven't send words to them that I was okay and that Dera had disappeared.
I asked for a brush and some ink and then a paper where I drew out the map of the road to the refugee camp and then handed it over to Rael.
“I would be entrusting this to you, Rael” I said, taking my mother's ring off as I gave it to him. “Please find a way to get here and inform Elder Darin that he is to come with you” I said. Rael bowed and he disappeared.
We had to find a way to tackle this. As quickly as we can.
It took hours but Rael was able to come back with Elder Darin, Sage and Raven.
Seeing me sitting on a royal throne in a royal palace of a pack, they bowed, according me full respects.
They offered Kairo too his greetings and I could tell they were quick to assume that he was the man who I had tried to save so earnestly.
I smiled at the people who had became my family overnight and beckoned at them to a seat at the right side of the room.
“Alea, what happened?” Elder asked.
“Alea, did something happen with Dera?” Raven asked and I could tell with the way Kairo cleared his throat, it didn't sit well with him the way they were calling me by my name.
“I think that is a story we'd have to say later. All that's certain is that Dera doesn't deserve my mercy. She tried to kill me” I told them and their eyes widened.
“Are you okay, Queen?” Sage asked, like he was the only one who got the message Kairo was telling.
“I am, Sage. Thank you” I said, then turned back to the Elder again.
“We might need your help, Elder” I said, dropping a bombshell.
