Pandameic in the Pack
Pandameic in the Pack
Alea's POV
“What do you mean by that?” Kairo asked and some of the other ministers cleared their throats. A way of them saying that the Alpha of a pack doesn't even know what was going on in his pack.
Kairo stood up, irritated and angry as he got off the throne and walked to the ministers, pacing up and down in front of them while they only bowed their heads not able to make a sound because they feared him.
They feared him yet they were making murmurs about him while he was up here.
“You all think I ran away from my duty to have some honeymoon with my wife?” Kairo asked, almost gritting.
He was getting so angry and even my face was turning to pity for the ministers who were at fault.
“I was in a fucking life and death situation and so was she. We barely managed to survive, yet you fail to understand that?” He asked, grabbing one of the ministers by his collar as the man panicked. He couldn't even look up to his face as he was too scared to do so.
“I really do hope we always remember who is in control here, because I wouldn't want to remind you all who the Alpha is” He said, more like he was yelling and even I could feel his Alpha aura from here.
The ministers fell to their knees immediately, all not daring to look up at the Alpha who was mad.
“Please forgive us Alpha” They chorused and I watched Kairo take deep breaths before he returned to his seat.
He settled down beside me and I placed a hand on his hand, caressing it as I tried to calm him down. Our gaze locked and I reassured him with my eyes that everything was okay.
He let out a deep sigh before we all turned to listen to what Luther had to say again.
“Alpha. Luna.” Luther called, his gaze darting between the both of us. “There is a pandemic going on in the pack” He said and my eyes widened, as I adjusted myself on the seat.
“What did I hear you say?” I asked, voice loud and sharp.
“A pan…demic?” Kairo stuttered. It was hard to believe but as hard as it was to believe, the Minister's faces said so. That was the reason why they were so angry that there was no ruler to take place when all of that was happening.
Luther got into more details about the pandemic which they haven't found out its source or its cure. All he knew was that the Beta had made sure that people who had got infected had been quarantined and there had been a restriction order on them because it had been confirmed that it was contagious.
“Take us there” Kairo ordered and Luther bowed, getting ready to exit the room with us.
We left the ministers there to discuss and Rael was also there to take care of the court.
Luther led us out of the palace with some guards following behind us. They handed over to us some pairs of plastic face masks and we put them on.
Walking through the market, everywhere was quiet.
“A curfew had been issued and everyone had been staying home since then. Food is being distributed to every pack member morning and night by the guards” Luther explained and I couldn't help but agree that they had done so well taking care of the situation.
We got to the quarantined camp and we walked in and my heart couldn't stop aching. Most people in there looked so unkempt, children looking so pale and weak. They coughed out blood and sneezed out thick mucus.
It wasn't a very good sight to see, instead, it was a very heart wrenching sight. Cries echoed around the area while children who were still energized ran around the quarantined house barefooted.
A drop of tears fell off my eyes. I watched as two doctors tended to the sick people.
There were a lot of patients but they were only two doctors attending to them?
The doctors noticed our presence and offered their greetings but we were too occupied in watching the suffering people to give a reply to them.
I couldn't stop wondering about what the pandemic could be about, why it would choose our pack to strike. I was the Phantom Queen yet I couldn't protect my pack.
“Any death so far?” My voice trembled as I asked Luther.
“Two deaths so far, my Queen” He said and it was like a heavy rock had been placed onto my heart. Two deaths. Two people had died because of this strange disease that no one knows where it had come from.
“Then why are there only two people treating them? Why?” I could tell Kairo was losing it. They were his people, the people that made his pack complete, but watching them in this state must have saddened him.
“Those were the only physicians we could find, Alpha” Luther said.
“What about the royal physician?” His lips trembled.
“We can't have him here, Alpha. He will have to attend to you or the Luna when you need him. We can't stand a chance of having him get affected by the pandemic” Luther said, and honestly, that wasn't an excuse. It wasn't right and I wished Kairo was also thinking the same way as me.
“Bring him here. There are a lot of sick people here but you put us first? The people should come first!” Kairo said and Luther bowed. “Will get on it immediately, Alpha” Luther said and walked out, wanting to go fetch the royal physician.
Kairo was right. The pack members should come first. If there are no pack members, then there would be no one for the Alpha and Luna to rule.
I glanced at the whole place again and was determined to find out the reason why this was happening. Why the moon goddess was bestowing unto us this punishment.
