Chapter 40: Surprised

Amelia's POV

I had convinced Emily to continue working as Williams personal assistant. She was surprised I was begging her not to resign.

I felt William's love was a competition between me and Cindy, not Emily.

Lucas had been calling, I felt what I had for him before he went to prison was just a crush, not love. Nothing would have happened between his wife and him if not because I was in the picture. I don't want to have anything to do with him anymore but he won't let me be.

Lucas wasn't someone who was going to give up easily as I had always known him to be.

I heard the sound of a car engine while I was still considering picking his call. To my surprise, it was Lucas, after looking to see who it was through the window.

“What is he doing here?” I muttered.

I quickly pulled the curtain shut aside as I noticed him staring.

I don't know what Lucas wants from me but am not an escort anymore as he has always known me to be.

I paced back and forth in my room, the door suddenly swung open.

“You have a visitor." She said,

" Just go away mom, I am not seeing him.”

"I can let him come to your room then." she said.

I turned to see how messed up my room was. “No way."

What was my mom up to? Why do I feel she's up to something? I don't know what she was up to but there's no way I will let her do what she has just said. “And since when do you let strangers walk into your daughter's room?"

“You don't have to ask me this question, I'm not gonna stand here and watch you question me. You either come down and see who is here to see you or I walk the person up to your room and you won't dare close the door."

I don't know what was wrong with my mom. Why was she trying to control me? I had thought she had stopped but I was wrong. She was still in control of my life.

Still standing still, I rolled my eyes. “Tell him I will be with him shortly."

"We'll be waiting.” She said with a low voice.

I thought of the best way to leave the house without using the front door. If I leave with the back door, I might get caught.

I needed to be fast with my plan. I opened the window. It was too high to jump down. I went for the second window, “Well, I think I can get down there through here."

I quickly put on a dress, took all the necessary things I will need for the day.

I noticed my mom was walking towards my room while I was still considering jumping down. I was unsure of what to do next.

“Amelia….” She called out.

I quickly grabbed my phone, I had to think fast, scanned the room again, then fixed my gaze on the window, my only way of  escape.

I didn't hesitate, I immediately climbed out then lowered myself down. I tried all I could to do that slowly so I won't make any noise. As I lowered myself doek, I could feel my hand trembling while my feet quickly scrambled for a foothold.

I heard my mom's angry voice just when I managed to find a secure spot. “Where are you?" I heard her shouting.

My heart began to pound in my chest, I took a sprint without looking back. I just wanted to get down safely, it was the only way I could get away from her suffocating control, which was so annoying.

My heart was pounding in my chest as I ran as fast as my leg could. The angry shout of my mother faded away as I ran up to the distance. I dare not look back as I increased my pace every passing minute.

Turning to a corner, a bus approaches in my direction. I was able to catch it just when it was about to pull away.

I noticed the driver fixed his gaze on me, he might be wondering what was wrong with me. I thought. I sat on a nearby seat, grasping for breath.

“Sure you're okay?" He asked.

While I was still trying to catch my breath, I nodded. " Yeah.”

The driver then returned his attention to the road, I sat properly, processing what had just happened. How I had managed to jump down the window. I wished I could leave the house permanently, I just wanted to escape her suffocating control.

I pulled out my phone quickly as the bus rumbled on. I scrolled through my co face if I could find any clue of who to stay with. Just realizing I gave no one. There was a sad expression on my face. I couldn't think about staying with Williams because his family doesn't like me. While I was still sitting, my phone buzzed. It was my mom calling. “You don't have to call me, I wish you'll never see me again. I wish I could just go somewhere far away."

I ended the call immediately after speaking so harshly to her. I felt she deserves every treatment I give to her.

My phone buzzed again. I didn't care who was calling but suspected she was still the one. The call continued for what felt like hours, then I decided to pick up. To my surprise it was Williams calling all this while.

“Why haven't you been picking up? I saw you sneaking from your house through your window, I thought that was off." He said.

"I just left home without taking my belongings along. I wish I would never go back.”

“You don't have to say that. What's your reason?" Williams asked.

“Just had a little fight with my Mother."

"Is it that bad, that requires you leaving home? ” Williams said, surprised.

“She's done the worst things. I'm tired of everything she's doing to me.”

"So where are you heading? I guess a friend's place.”

I sighed. “I actually don't have a destination."

“What? Who leaves a place without a destination. Stay right there , don't move. I will come and pick you up now."

" You don't have to. I'm on a  moving bus. I will get a place to stay.”

I didn't want him to worry about me. I just wanted to be alone. The more I try avoiding William the closer he wants to get with me. I was just trying to hide the fact that I really liked him.
