Chapter 85 The Possessed Warrior
Chapter 85 The Possessed Warrior
Damien walked through the palace's corridor. Staggering and stumbling as he walked awkwardly. His eyes was devoid of emotion and his gaze was fixed ahead. The guards and the maids passing by found this incredibly amusing.
They all knew Damien as someone important to the Queen. But what was wrong with him? This wasn't his usual way of walking, although he was always distant, this was different.
As he passed by a group of guards, one of them nodded in greeting. "Good morning, Lord Damien."
They greeted despite their oblivion to his behavior. This had always been the routine.
Damien's response was unexpected. "The darkness is near and you are stirtong it. The wind screams for revenge." His voice was low and menacing finding a way to send a shiver down their spine.
They shivered uncontrollably, stunned by Damien's words.
Usually, Damien would repond with a nod, but today he went through the stress of speaking. But his words……sounds meaningless.
One of them exchanged a concerned glance with his fellow. Even though they don't converse mich with Damien, he doesn't look like this nor does he respons like this. When he's speaking with the Qien, he always carry this aura around with him.
But it seemed like all his aura has crumble down.
"Lord Damien, are you well? You seem...different."
Damien's eyes locked onto the guard, and for a moment, it seemed like he was staring into the man's very soul. The man didn't know how to react for a moment, he just kept staring awkwardly back at Damiem.
Then, without warning, Damien drew his sword. The guards instinctively drew theirs, forming a circle around him. They are always prepared for situations like this, but in Damien's case, they seemed to be caught off guard. Why did he suddenly draw a sword at them?
"Lord Damien, put down your sword!" one of them commanded.
But Damien didn't respond. He began to circle the guards, his sword flashing. The guards prepared for a fight, but Damien's movements were unpredictable, almost...demented.
He started the whole thing, the fight. Their swords clashing with one another. The sound of the steel echoed throughout the corridor. The maids had moved to one side watching with horror, fearing for their lives.
Despite looking terrified and pale, they couldn't bare to miss the whole thing. The guards kept up with Damien's frenzied attacks.
They've never dueled with him, but he foungt exceptionally well. That must be why he has remained by the Queen's side.
All of a sudden, like in a flash, Damien broke free from the circle and sprinted toward the back of the palace. The guards started their marathon, trying to catch up to Damien. They couldn't tell what was wrong, hut Damien cannot just go to the back of the palace whole running like this.
Something bad might happen to him if he isn't careful. Not just anyone can walk around the palace.
They found themselves in a large courtyard, surrounded by wells. Helpfully, Damien was fine,he stopptjust in time before he fell into one of those. Damien stood at the edge of the courtyard, his sword still clutched in his hand. The guards fanned out, trying to corner him.
But Damien seemed to be waiting for them. He began to taunt them, his words laced with a malevolent energy. "Come closer, guards. Let me show you the secrets of the deep."
Referring to the well as the deep. Of course the well was surely deep, how deep could it be? Deep enough to occupy five dead guards?
The guards hesitated, unsure of what to do. That's when Damien started luring them towards the wells. "Step closer, and you'll see the truth."
The guards stayed tuned and at alert, sinking into the depth of his words. The deep, his deep can the deep be? Curious enough to check it?
They started envisioning the well's depth. Wbat they didn't know was that Damien was no more the Damien. It was the devil in him speaking.
Just as the guards were about to fall for the trap, a voice echoed across the courtyard. "Damien!"
The guards regained their mindset, they slowly turned to see Evelyn standing at the entrance, her eyes fixed on Damien. She was all sweaty from her head to her toe. She seemed to have run really fast to get here. She just have been looking for Damien.
Standing at attention, they greeted her.
Damien's head jerked toward her, his expression twisting into a mixture of confusion and anger. What was this lady doing here? He only continued staring at Evelyn. No one could tell the look in his eyes, it was a mix of all sorts of emotion.
The guards took advantage of the distraction to move closer to Damien, but he was ready for them. With a swift motion, he lunged at them, his sword flashing in the sunlight.
They all backed down afraid of that dangerous sword dangling towards them. They've seen his skill and they knew how hard it is to take him down. If they were to make one foolish move, one of them might end up dead.
Evelyn rushed forward, her eyes locked on Damien. "Stop! Don't hurt him!"
The guards hesitated, unsure of what to do. Damien's behavior was becoming increasingly erratic, and Evelyn's concern for him was even something else to think about. He seemed to be possessed but the Queen don't want him hurt.
As this continued, Damien's eyes seemed to flicker with a hint of recognition. For a moment, it seemed like the real Damien was struggling to break free from the possession. Evelyn saw this and reached out to him.
But the moment passed, and Damien's malevolent energy surged back. He took a step closer to the guards, his sword raised.
Evelyn intervened, her voice firm. "Damien, snap out of it! It's me, Evelyn."
Evelyn said randomly thinking that would help. She was not sure if Damien could still recognize her, she just said that out of helplessness. The last thing she want to see now was to see one of her belenovelent hurt.
She didn't want to see Damien in the same position as Kallix.
Damien's gaze locked onto hers, and for an instant, Evelyn thought she saw a glimmer of the man she knew. But it was just a fleeting moment, and the darkness consumed him once more.
She was running mad because of this, she couldn't tell. She had rushed over here as soon as she heard that he went this way…. without no plan in mind. She only wanted Damien back. Not the demonic spirit.
To get to Eleanor would take quite some time, so she decided to do this on her own.
The guards moved forward, determined to overthrow Damien. Damien wasn't theirs to deal with anymore, but the Queen's. He dared raise a sword at her. But Evelyn stood her ground, her eyes never leaving Damien's face. "I'll handle this," she said, her voice steady.
The guards hesitated, then nodded. They backed off, but not entirly. They kept watching as Evelyn approached Damien cautiously. If Damien should act tricky, they were prepared to attack him, even if it cost them their lives.
"Damien, please," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "Come back to me."
Damien's response was unpredictable.
