Chapter 128
Chapter 128
Kelly
I didn’t think Kate could sink any lower. But I should have known better.
The second I stepped into the house, exhausted and desperate for a moment to think. The unknown number called and Davis’s voice crackled through my phone.
"You might want to turn on the news."
A sick feeling twisted in my gut as I grabbed the remote. The second the screen lit up, I knew.
Kate was Live. On national television. While I was fighting for my life, Kate was organizing a live broadcast.
She sat at a pristine white desk, microphone clipped to her expensive blouse, her expression composed, but her words? They were designed to rattle me, and it did.
"My father is missing. And my sister, Kelly Brook, is hiding him."
My stomach dropped. Ever since I became a public figure, right from singing days to my political career, I never mentioned to the public that I had a twin, and it wasn’t public either because Kate disowned me as her sister, and she never wanted it public either, so why now?
The reporters leaned in, eager, eating up her every word like it was gospel.
"Why?" Kate continued, tilting her head with a mocking concern. "Because she’s ashamed of the truth. Our father isn’t the man people think he is. He has a criminal past. And Kelly doesn’t want the world to know.”
I felt numb to pain, this wasn’t just a betrayal. Kate only called me to distract me and she won, this was how she planned to come at me? By risking our father’s life just for her selfish reasons.
Dad was missing, possibly dying, and Kate didn’t care.
She had gone right back to Davis.
Adrian stormed into the room just as the real bombshell dropped.
"If Kelly wants to deny me, then let’s settle this once and for all—DNA test."
I stopped breathing, the room spun. Has it gotten to this ?
Kate’s expression was calm, but her eyes burned with a vengeful fire.
"Let’s put an end to this. The will should be shared among us. If Kelly is truly my father’s daughter, she won’t hesitate. But if she refuses…"
She let the words hang. I already knew what the media would do with that. They’d tear me apar, like they haven’t been for the past few weeks.
Reporters shouted over each other, social media exploded.
The questions were instant, brutal.
\- Why won’t Kelly take the test?
\- Is she lying about her father?
\- Was she even legally entitled to his fortune?
\- How many more secrets does that woman even have?
Adrian muted the TV.
“She’s forcing your hand.”
I couldn’t speak. At this point my head was a cloud space, I don’t know what I expected, but this was worse than I expected.
My phone buzzed again, another call. I already knew who it was before I even picked up.
Davis’s voice slithered into my ear, smooth, taunting.
"Looks like you have your hands full, Kelly."
My fingers clenched.
"Should I put your father out of his misery for you?"
A knife to my ribs would’ve hurt less. Because the pain I felt now a knife to my ribs would’ve hurt less, the last thing I wanted was someone paying for my own sins.
……
The next twenty-four hours passed with nothing but chaos. Every channel, every social media platform, everyone was talking about me.
Reporters camped outside my building, cameras flashing, microphones shoving toward my face.
"Kelly! Why won’t you take the test?"
"Are you hiding something?”
"Does this mean Kate is the rightful heir?"
I pushed past them, heart pounding. I could already see the headlines:
KELLY BROOK, LIAR OR FRAUD?
Adrian shoved open the car door.
“We need to get out of here. Now”
I barely heard him, because Kate was winning. Davis was winning. They had ripped my world apart, and I was seconds away from losing everything.
Inside the car, Adrian drove through the city, his grip tight on the wheel.
“You can’t let her box you in,” he said.
I exhaled bitterly.
“She already has.”
“She’s bluffing.”
“She’s not.” My voice cracked. “She wants me to take the test because she knows I wouldn’t want to”
I wasn’t afraid of proving I was my father’s daughter. I was afraid of what else that test might expose. Things I didn’t even know myself. What if, just what if?
Adrian pulled into an empty parking lot and killed the engine.
“Then we shut her down another way.”
I shook my head. “How? The media is already eating this up. If I don’t respond, I’ll look guilty.”
Silence.
“We hit her first.”
I looked at him. “What?”
Adrian’s jaw was tight. “We find her secrets. We drag her into the light before she drags you under.”
It was a dangerous plan. Kate secrets was only beng involved with Davis, for as far as I know.
……..
The next morning, my phone buzzed with an alert.
Breaking News: Kate Brook Announces Press Conference Tonight, Will Kelly Brook Show Up?
She was daring me. If I don’t show up, it would look like I was hiding something.
If I did… she’d have the upper hand. I stared at the screen, heart hammering.
Adrian watched me carefully. “What’s the move?”
I swallowed hard. I only had one option left, I wasn’t going to let Kate ruin me.
