Chapter 22 Alpha Karl

Chapter 22 Alpha Karl
Alpha Karl looked between us and then broke into a small laugh.

"What's going on here?"

I bit down hard in my lips as my gaze flickered momentarily towards Alpha Eros.

He was watching me, his eyes wide, and I hated just how much hurt I could see beneath the dark red eyes.

Before any of them could say anything, I turned and ran down to my room, my heart hammering madly in my chest, my body shaky.

The room held Alpha Eros' deep scent, and I noticed he had cleaned up the room a little. I didn't stop and made my way into the bathroom, my chest heaving as my heart seemed to tighten.

I grabbed the edge of the sink just as my knees gave way under me, and I went to the floor, my body shaky, my heart beating wildly in my chest.

Why did I do that? Why did I say that, especially after what just happened?

Tears rapidly filled my eyes, and I just sat there, reliving every single thing.

Now I found myself wondering just how many times Eros had been lingering around, watching me, waiting.

That night after burying Valerian.. I could envision it now.

His dark, beautiful eyes watched me from the open window. I could feel it now, and it felt like punishment. Like karma.

Hell, I hated myself.

I managed to stand up and take a slow shower, the change into a large t-shirt and shorts, before going right back to bed.

I closed my eyes, but I knew deep down that I wanted to hear something. A sign of life. A sign of his presence.

There was nothing. Even his essence seemed to leave the house.

Tears filled my eyes all over again, and I closed my eyes tightly.

We can't cry, Skylar. Not now. This is for Valerian. If Eros is Valerian's killer, it is best to get accustomed to matelessness now.

Suddenly, a knock came on the door. I jumped out of bed, my eyes wide, my heart beating wildly.

Could it be Eros?

I steeled myself for it. If it was really Eros, he wouldn't be pleasant, but still. I couldn't bring myself to ignore it.

Slowly, I walked to the door, my fingers clenching around the door knob.

To my surprise, Knox was by the door, his eyes wide with worry, and behind him was a suited man who looked like an official.

My brows furrowed. "Knox?"

He let out a deep breath, then took a step towards me. "I was so fucking worried. I came earlier and Eros wouldn't let me see you."

I bit down on my lips hard, my gaze slowly darting towards the opposite direction. The door was locked, and Alpha Karl was standing in the living room, his hands pushed into his pockets.

He was looking at me like he was trying to unravel me, and it only made me feel wven more guilty.

I knew how fiercely protective he and Alpha Kyran were about Alpha Eros. The only difference was that Alpha Karl was loud with it, and Alpha Kyran looked like the type to make someome disappear in the dead of the night.

"Kian," Knox said, and I turned to him, blinking back tears. "Let's get some fresh air. Okay? Would you like that?"

I turned around. Yes. Yes, I would like to get away from the scent of everything I cannot have before I get too fucking greedy.

I nodded, and without a word, he grabbed my hand.

"Thank you for coming, sir," he said to the man in a dark suit, who was just standing behind him.

"I let it go this once," the man said, his gaze flickering to me. "But I wouldn't want to get on the Dionte's bad side. I would advice you to stop getitng in Alpha Eros' way. Okay?"

I nodded immediately, and Kian nodded slowly, like he wanted to protest it but knew he couldn't.

The man walked out of the place, and Knox pulled me with him towards the door.

"Knox."

We stopped, then turned to Alpha Karl. He leaned away from the wall, his eyes cold.

"Yes?" Knox said, his hand tightening around mine.

"Step outside for a bit. I have a word to say to him."

"He is under my..."

"I don't know why Eros hasn't restructured your face, Knox," Alpha Karl said, slowly taking the fruit knife that was sitting conveniently on the dining table. "But I do not have the same restrictions. Get out and let me have a word with him."

I could feel Knox's grip on my hand loosen, but he seemed adamant. Before he could say a word, I pulled my hand away from his grip.

I could see how precise Alpha Karl's grip on that knife was. I could see how narrow his eyes were, how ready his stance was.

He wasn't bluffing about being ready to restructure Knox's face, whatever that meant.

"I will meet you outside," I said, and Knox let out a small curse before walking away.

I turned to Alpha Karl, whose smile returned slowly, and he dropped the knife, then pushed his fingers into his pockets.

"You are Kian," he said. "The new boy Eugene has been rallying around."

I bit down on my lips. "He was just... kind to me once."

Alpha Karl took me in, then broke into a laugh. "I will not ask what you were doing with Eros, he seems to have a particular taste with roommates. You aren't my business, but make sure it is no one else's either."

I bit down on my lips hard, and I hated how Eros's taste filled my tongue.

"There is nothing to tell."

He shrugged, his smile a little too sweet. "I hope so. You are quite troublesome from what I have seen, and I assure you that Eros is the most merciful you will have to deal with."

I nodded, my fists clenching hard. "I understand."

He nodded. "Eros's 9.p.m. rule still stands. I will be here."

I nodded again, before he turned away. I watched as he opened the door to Eros's room and stepped in.

My eyes squinted as I tried my best to catch a glimpse of something, anything.

The door slowly started to close, and my heart sank with the weight of my own disappointment. Just before it closed, however, I saw it. Broken plates littering the floor.

My lips parted, a single tear running down my cheek, my body stiffening.

What have you done, Skylar?
