Heart wrenching separation.
Chapter 79:
Kaya's pov.
“They're gaining on us!” I yelled, running ahead of Tessa who was trying her best to meet up with me despite her declining health. Elior was now screaming behind me, as if he had sensed the danger we were in. I felt bad for him.
“Kaya! I can't run anymore, I'm going to pass out!” Tessa let out a tired grunt. She was slacking but there was no time for that since the soldiers were already near.
I grabbed her hand and forged ahead, frantically searching for a hiding spot where we could wait the soldiers out. We were heading towards the forest already and a lot of paths faced us, the problem was which path to take.
“Kaya, you have to leave me, I'll only be slowing you down. Those men are after you and not me.”
I wasn't going to listen to Tessa, I was determined to save her too.
“Don't ask me to leave you behind because I will not.”
Seeing that there was longer any time left, I took the path to my left, dragging Tessa with me. We hoped that the soldiers would take another path so that we could run far from here but that wasn't the case.
Unfortunately, they saw us and came after us, following us deep into the forest. They were relentless and determined to catch us. Whoever I killed must have been very important to them, because they were very angry.
“Don't let her escape!” A voice yelled out before I felt a strong arm grab me by the shoulder, pulling me back harshly. I let out a shriek, putting my hand on Elior as if to shield him from them.
They bundled me and forced me to kneel in front of a large man. Tessa was not exempted. My heart was racing as I wondered what they wanted to do with me.
“Please.. please don't harm us.” I pleaded.
“Shut up!” He growled at me.
“You thought you could get away after killing Umar?” He scoffed.
“Bring her along! Axel will decide what to do with her.” He ordered and got on his horse, riding away.
His men bundled Tessa and I onto their horses, not giving a damn about the baby I was carrying. But I tried my best to stop their hands from getting to Elior. Tessa, on the hand was at the verge of passing out again and I was worried about her.
What are these men going to do to us? The thought of it alone left me with an empty feeling in my gut. I was scared but more worried about Elior. I prayed fervently for no harm to come to him.
As our journey progressed, they grew tired of carrying Tessa around in her unconscious state. I pleaded with them not to hurt her, telling them that she doesn't have a hand in Umar's death, whoever he is.
“Leave her here, let the rogues find her and tear her to shreds.” One of the men said and the others agreed. I gasped in shock, shaking my head.
“No, no, no! Please don't!” I pleaded but I was hit on the hand as a response and I winced in pain.
They went ahead to throw Tessa off the horse, letting her body drop carelessly on the bush path. Tears streamed down my cheeks as we rode away, her body becoming farther and farther until she was out of sight.
I was quiet for the rest of the journey, fear taking over me. I was shaking, the thought of the torture I was going to go through in the hands of these men scared me to death.
Soon, we made our way through the palace gates where the battle had heated up. I was dragged off the horse and two strong men led me to kneel in front of a scary looking man while I pleaded for help.
Alpha Silas and his beta were there too, and they both looked shocked to see me.
“She's the one that killed Umar.” One of the men that led me here said.
“Oh really?” The scary man's forehead squeezed in anger. “Then I guess she'll have to pay.”
“Let her go Axel! Let her go!!” Alpha Silas yelled aggressively and I gasped. So this is Axel?
“You can't tell me what to do! You're not my father… at least, not anymore!”
This statement made my eyes widen in shock and disbelief. Could it be that Axel is related to Alpha Silas? But that's not possible, the man standing in front of me looks to old to be Alpha Silas’ son.
“Don't you think that you have to right to speak to me in that manner!” Axel went on to say before turning to his men.
“Take her away and lock her up. I will deal with her once I have won this war.” He sneered and two large hands grabbed me again. I gasped and tried to free myself from their grip.
“Please.. please spare me!” I cried out. How could I have known that I hadn't just killed an ordinary soldier?
“Let her go!” Alpha Silas tried to intervene but a sword was placed on his throat by Axel and when Myers tried to defend him, he was hit at the back of his head, causing him to fall weakly to his knees.
“I have won already!” Axel laughed.
“Please! Please for the sake of my child, please don't hurt me!” I continued to wail, struggling with the men that were trying to drag me away.
“Take that child from her and dump him elsewhere! Maybe separation will be a befitting punishment for her.” Axel ordered and my eyes widened in shock, my heart shattering to pieces.
“No! No!! Anything but that! Please don't take my son from me! Please! Please! Oh moon goddess! Help me!” I tossed and turned, trying to hinder them from touching Elior but they forcefully took him out of my back and handed him over to another soldier.
My poor baby wailed and cried, yearning for me. I was heartbroken, my insides seemed to have been set ablaze. I couldn't take it, I couldn't watch them take him from me.
“Please Axel, I beg you! Please don't take my son from me!!” I screamed at the top of my voice, watching the soldier walk away with Elior.
My heart squeezed in pain, my head banged badly, I had no idea what to do, my world became dark and void, the only ray of hope I had has been snatched away from me.
I fell helplessly into the arms of the soldiers and they dragged my limp body away, tossing me into a dark van.
