Chapter 6 An Unimaginable Agreement

Chapter 6 An Unimaginable Agreement
“Why are you so quiet, Julia? Isn't this your best offer?”
Julia was utterly speechless, and now all her hair stood on end.
Damn it, really. What was Kay thinking? Why would the mafia leader have such a plan? A marriage between an intelligence officer and a mafia leader was completely unreasonable. Julia's original intention was that after she found Robin, she would report the whereabouts of Kay's gang. So how could things have turned out this way?
Julia felt even more foolish and at a loss for words until Kay's large fingers caressed her smooth face.
“You can never report me to any police force, even if you deny the fact that the police high-ranking officers were involved in the efforts to save my group. Are you so naive as to wonder how I've been able to move freely without being caught?”
Julia immediately backed away, her face completely averted. Kay was truly a terrifying man. His smile, his gaze, his voice—nothing about him truly made Julia feel good. She didn't know what to do to stop being afraid of him.
Kay grinned at Julia's annoyed expression, then stepped back. Leaning against the hood of the car, he casually tucked his hands into his pockets.
"I'm not that patient, Julia. Once I ask you and give you a chance, if you refuse, you'll never get a second chance."
Kay didn't leave immediately, as if he was giving Julia a moment to think. Seeing her remain silent and unmoved, Kay finally opened the car door to leave. Julia suddenly grabbed Kay's hand, her gaze blank. Julia looked at Kay and then firmly answered.
"Okay!" she said with an unusually trembling voice.
Kay didn't answer; he raised an eyebrow, then smiled coldly.
"I agree with you," Julia seemed to clarify. "I will marry you," she continued.
Kay smiled wryly, saying nothing and getting into the car without another word.
Julia was completely confused, not even knowing what to do with Kay's expression. It felt like Julia needed to explain something so Kay would at least understand if she truly agreed. Or if Kay simply no longer had any interest in Julia.
Without thinking, Julia got into the car and looked at Kay with a confused look.
"Why are you so quiet?"
Kay still didn't answer. He started driving toward his hiding place again. To the harbor, where he would live a relatively comfortable life, unnoticed, blending in with society like a chameleon because Kay had a big mission to complete.
"I'll take care of all our wedding plans, and you just have to accept the rest," Kay began. Julia held her breath perfectly, her hands gripping his tightly. "For now, I'll take you to an apartment."
"Why?"
Kay didn't answer.
"I can live with you at the harbor, right?" he continued.
"You don't know, the harbor is quite dangerous for you," he continued.
Julia held her breath again, trying to find a way to be with Kay no matter what.
"I know you're part of an elite police force. But you also have to understand that you're a woman. In my eyes, no matter how strong a woman is, she's still weak, especially in a deadly place like mine. Do you understand?"
Julia swallowed hard and looked at Kay again. It seemed Kay was right. After all, Julia's goal was revenge on Robin for the betrayal she'd caused him, not to die a foolish death for whatever reason.
"Okay, I'll do whatever you want. Or I can go home."
"I don't want to leave any traces at your place, and I'm sure some of your damn police friends will come to your house, right?"
Julia fell silent again.
"Besides, I'll blend in with society after this. After all this illicit trade is over."
"You must have plenty of shady missions."
"You don't need to interfere in my affairs."
Julia immediately fell silent. After all, she hadn't expected her words to embarrass her like this.
Kay said nothing and then escorted Julia to an apartment. A luxurious apartment in the downtown district, Julia stared at Kay speechless.
Kay smiled again and went downstairs, followed by Julia once they were both in the basement.
"This is my private apartment, and this is the access card. You can create a new password for it so you can feel at ease. My men will deliver your necessary items, and then you can stay there in peace." Kay paused for a moment, casually lighting his cigarette.
"You don't need to worry, I've ordered my men to keep a close eye on Robin. I'll report to you periodically about his whereabouts and what he's doing. Then think about what kind of revenge you want, and one thing…" Kay trailed off. He was now looking at Julia with a sharp gaze and a hardened jaw. "Think now about whether to stay in the police force or quit and come work for me."
"No, I have no intention of becoming a mafia member," Julia replied curtly.
Kay laughed when Julia flatly rejected his offer.
"Who told you to become a mafia member?"
Julia turned her head stupidly. "What do you mean?"
"I own several companies, and I think you could be one of their secretaries."
Julia refused again. Unfortunately, Julia wanted nothing to do with Kay's wealth, knowing it all came from corrupt means, which was certainly annoying.
"Thank you, but I don't want to. I don't want to have anything to do with your money, because all of it comes from corrupt means."
Kay was quite offended, but the man didn't say anything but remained silent and left Julia alone.
Julia fell silent again, clutching Kay's apartment access card. This was the craziest thing ever: Julia had to agree to marry a mafia leader and ally herself with a man who was supposed to be Julia's enemy, while at the same time accepting this bitter reality.
Yes, it was all because of Robin, and Julia swore never to let Robin go, no matter what.
