Chapter 49
Savannah's POV
I had no idea how she managed to get the spell, but there had to be a way around it. I knew that now she was strong. Probably not as strong as I was, but strong enough to act on her own. Right now she couldn’t invade the realms, but that didn’t mean safety.
“What’s your plan now?”
“I think we can pay a visit to the other witches and the angels. If my assumptions are correct, the veil should recognize the power in the orb and let me through along with you.”
“Are you sure that’s the best idea?”
“Why not?”
“If it won’t work they can capture us.”
“I don’t think so. You won’t let them do that would you?”
“Of course not.”
“Then there’s no reason to worry. We leave tomorrow. Get ready.”
This was bad. I still couldn’t remember anything and certainly didn’t trust anyone, but that didn’t mean I wanted to attack blindly. I admit that when I met Dalia I wanted to get revenge by destroying everyone who wanted to hurt me. That changed when I met the two men and the Saints in the Sacred Library. My only chance was to unlock the Lyre of Truth and learn the secrets. There was a possibility that Dalia knew how to destroy that orb. I couldn’t act until I was sure that I wouldn’t create my own demise in the process. I knew that I was under a magnifying glass and Dalia wouldn’t hesitate if she saw any indication of my possible betrayal.
“You can stay if you want and experiment on them. I’m leaving.”
“Okay, I’ll be back soon.”
I needed to go back and ask the Saints for a solution. Maybe I would find another book that could tell me how to get my memories back and learn the truth. I hated this. I hated that I couldn’t tell who was lying to me. With a deep breath I was outside the Library once more.
“What did you do, Savannah Rose?” - the same woman asked as soon as I was inside.
“I didn’t have a choice. Can you tell me how to destroy the orb?”
“You think I would tell you anything after what you did?”
“I think you know that I did what was necessary. I have no memories. How can I get them back?”
“With sheer willpower.”
“That’s not exactly helpful.”
“I tried to help you, but instead of making an excuse you gave in and cast the spell that she stole from us, from the Library.”
“You need to understand that I couldn’t expose that I was doubting her. Is she strong enough to do some real damage?”
“No.”
“Can she cross the realm with the orb?”
“No. For that she needs to siphon the power of every single individual from the race.”
“Thank you.”
“Do not thank me for anything. I did not do this for you. I did it for everybody else.”
With that being said she disappeared. At least Dalia was still harmless. We can try and visit them, but that was just it. I was wandering between the shelves once again. I was hoping to find something, anything that might help me learn the truth.
The deeper I ventured into the library, the darker and colder it became. It didn't deter me though. I saw some interesting books, but I couldn't touch them. Suddenly I heard something hitting the ground. The sound was close. I waited for another sound, but there was only silence. I tried to look for anything out of the ordinary. Then I found a book lying on the floor.
It was a simple journal, but there wasn't a name written inside it. Curiously I started reading the entries. There had to be a reason that this journal landed on the floor. The Library was trying to help me. I knew I couldn't take it with me so I started reading. There was nothing helpful in it. Not until I reached the last page.
*“Read the prophecies. That is the only hope for the world. Read every single one. Find the book and fulfill the prophecy.”*
What book? What prophecy? I tried to look for more clues, but that was it. Nothing else was written in the journal. I knew I had less than a day to find the answers I needed so desperately. I needed help from the Saints. I raced back to the circle.
“I need your help. Please.”
For minutes nothing happened and I was sure that the Saints wouldn't come. I could understand them. Dalia stole from them. I lied to them, but then all eight of them surrounded me.
“What did you do? You pulled a book from one of the shelves. How?”
“No, no, I didn't. I found it on the floor. Please, help me.”
“The Library's accepted you. It's helping you. What do you need from us?”
“I need to find a book about some prophecies. Here, look. Here's the sentence.”
“We cannot help you.”
“Why? You said I could use my knowledge and power for good.”
“We want to help you, but we cannot. The book is gone. Nobody has seen it for decades. The book was supposed to be locked away inside the veil. It never reached its destination.”
“What happened?”
“We do not know. I have been trying to locate it ever since. There is not even a sliver of trace. I am sorry. You need to find a way without that book.”
“Tell me what to do. I know everything that was in the veil. There has to be a spell or something.”
“There is nothing. I am sorry. To destroy the orb you need to move everyone who lost their powers to the same place. Let her release the powers and then strike. Siphon it and gather it. Once you collect all of it, blast it towards those people. Their powers will recognize whom they belong to. I cannot tell you the right spell. You already know it.”
She was right. As soon as she told me what I had to do, the spell just popped into my mind.
“Thank you. I'll try to find that book at any cost.”
“I admire your courage for a woman who wanted to destroy the whole world not too long ago. I hope you succeed even if we could not. Is there anything else you would like from us, from me?”
“How did the book disappear?”
“I told you that we do not know.”
“And I can sense that you're hiding something.”
“There is nothing.”
Deep inside me something stirred. Something primal and ancient. Then a spell popped into my mind. I started chanting and suddenly a lyre appeared in my hand. It was the Lyre of Truth. That meant whatever the Saints were trying to conceal had to be revealed. There was a reason for the spell to appear. I looked at them and every one of the Saints vanished, except for the woman who's been helping me every time. Her face was expressionless, but her eyes showed everything. Admiration, fierceness, but most importantly fear. Whatever they were hiding had to be bad enough for her to fear. She wasn't afraid of the lyre or of me. She feared what would happen once the truth was out. I detected the exact moment she knew there was nothing to do and I'd discover the truth anyway.
