Chapter 48

Savannah’s POV

I visited the Sacred Library the same day. This time I was let in without resistance. The Saints were waiting for me and I stood inside the circle.

“Why are you here again, child?”

“I’m sorry to disturb you again, but I need a spell.”

“That depends on the spell.”

“I want to create an orb to store part of my powers. I feel too powerful and I’m afraid that I’ll hurt someone unintentionally.”

“You can control your powers just fine. I feel like there is some foul play behind your request. I cannot help you this time. Your powers are the safest inside your own body.”

I wanted to say something, but they disappeared. I dreaded going back to Dalia, knowing she’d throw a tantrum. I could see some books and I decided to take a look. They were old. I found an interesting one with the title “Forbidden Objects.” I pulled it out and opened it.

“All the objects listed were created for good deeds until people used them for doing evil. These objects were locked inside the veil. Each item can be activated with the right spell.”

This sounded interesting. Seeing that nobody stopped me from reading further I lowered myself on the floor and turned a page.

“The Lyre of Truth is one of the most dangerous objects in the wrong hands. Hades created it to make the dead confess their sins. It somehow disappeared until it was used to make confessions about the secrets of the supernatural races. The purpose was to take over the realm.”

“The Trident of Fury was used by Poseidon to unleash the most dangerous creatures of the sea to cause panic and destruction. In order to protect the world, Poseidon gave the object up and locked it in the veil.”

“The Orb of Love belonged to Aphrodite. This is the only object that can truly separate soulmates from each other. Given that soulmates are sacred the object was locked up. Unfortunately not before a broken-hearted male almost snapped all the mate bonds in the world.”

As I was reading further I realized that all the locked up objects belonged to the gods that existed out there. There were no drawings in the book, but strangely the pictures of the objects appeared before my eyes. I was wondering about the spells that were needed for activating them. If I could somehow access The Lyre of Truth I could make Dalia tell me the truth. That way I wouldn’t have to wait for the dreams. With a sigh I stood up and returned to her place.

“Well?”

“They refused to tell me.”

“What did you tell them?”

“I told them that I’m afraid of hurting people unintentionally and I want to put part of my powers into the orb.”

“Were you convincing?”

“As convincing as I could be. They told me that my powers are safer inside my body.”

“Ugh, sooner or later I’ll get that spell and you will make me that orb. Did you find anything else?”

“No, you only asked me to get the spell.”

I didn’t trust Dalia completely, so I’d just keep the information about those objects to myself. At least for now.

For the past week I didn’t sleep well. My dreams were mostly nightmares about my life. Part of me refused to believe that all those horrible things were true. That whispering voice I heard telling me to trust my heart too, not just my eyes. Dalia was nowhere to be found for two days now. Yesterday I went out and released the witches and angels from my spell. I warned them to act like they were still under the influence of my spell. It didn’t sit right with me that Dalia wanted an army. I was preparing lunch when there was a knock on the door.

“Can we come in to talk?”

“Gabriel, Zamyr, what do you want to talk about?”

“About you and about us.”

“Fine, come in. You have five minutes.”

“Do you believe Dalia?”

“I should, but for some reason I cannot trust her entirely. That doesn’t mean I trust you either. I can only trust myself.”

“What if we tell you how you lost your memories?”

“Fine, how did I lose my memories?”

“In order to access your angel powers you need to make a sacrifice. You forcefully crossed the veil that separates the realms. We believe losing your memories was the sacrifice.”

“Interesting. Anything else you want to tell me?”

“When you crossed the veil you got access to the spells and artifacts that were locked up. Do you know the spells and objects?”

“You visited the Sacred Library.”

“Seems like you did too. Anyway, if you decide where to stand we’ll be there for you.”

“I love you.” - both of them confessed at the same time.

I wanted to say something, but no words came out. They looked at me and left without saying anything else. Just as they left, Dalia burst through the front door.

“Quickly, cast the spell. I managed to make a copy of it, but we don’t have much time. Take this, I’ll use this orb.”

I was starstruck at Dalia’s behavior. I looked at the spell and started chanting. I couldn’t reveal that I didn’t trust her. I was sure that there was a loophole. When I finished chanting I silently prayed for forgiveness. I just hope whoever listened to me would grant me what I asked for.

“Perfect. Now let’s go. I believe there’s an army waiting for us.”

She marched towards the homes and my first thought was ‘shit’, they wouldn’t give up their powers without a fight and Dalia would know that I released them. I ran after Dalia. Everyone was standing outside. They didn’t show signs that they could act on their own. The leader looked at me, smiled faintly saying whatever comes they’ll trust me. That was all I needed. My heart almost broke for these people when Dalia held the orb and started siphoning their magic. By the time she was done, a few of them were weeping for their lost powers, others stood still not showing their emotions.

“Let’s go. You can release them now. They’re useless to me.”

I looked at them apologetically and acted like I was chanting. When I looked up the elderly woman stepped forward.

“I hope you’re happy now, Dalia. Don’t forget that eventually you’ll create your own demise and I’ll be there to see it.”

“You’ll be dead by then, mother. Let’s go back now, my work here’s done.”

I was thinking about how to slow Dalia down until I could figure out how to release the powers from the orb. There had to be a loophole, but I needed to find that by myself.
