Chapter 43 Who called Jennifer in the morning?
The sun began to shine through the gaps in the curtains of Jennifer's room.

Jennifer slowly opened her eyes as she raised her hands to stretch her arms, which felt a little stiff from sleeping.

Jennifer began to lift her body slightly near the head of the bed. For the first time, she felt very tired but comfortable after sleeping.

Jennifer was about to get out of bed when she accidentally saw someone sleeping in her bed.

Jennifer's eyes widened, almost popping out of their sockets.

"Akkkk!!!" Jennifer screamed, disturbing the peace of the morning.

"What's wrong? Are you hurt? Why are you screaming?" someone asked with concern, even though their eyes were still a little sleepy.

Instead of answering, Jennifer asked, "What are you doing here?"

The person frowned, still not fully awake.

"Me? This is my house and this is my room. What's wrong with that?" Gerald replied casually.

Jennifer, looking annoyed, clenched her fists and replied, "I know this is your house, you brought us here. But that's not what I mean! I'm asking why you're in my room... I mean, why are we... sleeping in the same room?"

Gerald calmly got out of bed and looked at Jennifer.

"Why indeed? Didn't we even share the same sweat yesterday in..." Gerald said, leaning down so that his face was very close to Jennifer's.

Jennifer turned her face away, her cheeks flushing red. Gerald smiled slightly, then his expression turned cold again when Jennifer looked at him.

"You know exactly what I mean, Gerald! Yesterday was a mistake! I don't want to make the same mistake again. Last night we didn't..." Jennifer said quickly. Jennifer hoped they had only slept together without doing anything else.

Gerald leaned in again, this time even closer, "A mistake? I don't think so! I know you enjoyed it too!"

Gerald slowly walked towards the bathroom, but Jennifer stopped him again.

"Wait! Tell me the truth, we didn't do it, did we?" Jennifer asked again.

Gerald only turned his head slightly, "What do you think? Two people of different genders together in bed..."

Jennifer's face grew paler, she lowered her head again, her hands clenched, her fingers clearly turning white because Jennifer was clenching her fists so tightly.

Gerald almost laughed, but held it back.

Jennifer shed tears, feeling ashamed of herself for falling a second time for someone who was even her future boss, someone she had just met. Even though Gerald was the biological father of her child, the fact that they were not lovers made her feel a little broken.

Jennifer felt like a cheap woman in front of Gerald, wondering where she would put her face as a mother in front of her son, Alex.

Jennifer tried to hold back her sobs, but Gerald's sharp ears caught them.

Gerald turned and approached Jennifer, who was bowing her head and crying silently.

Gerald lifted Jennifer's face and wiped her tears as he spoke softly.

"Come on! I'm sorry. I was just joking! Nothing happened between us, I fell asleep watching over you because... it seemed like you had a nightmare in the middle of the night! And you asked me not to leave, so I fell asleep beside you! I promise that without your permission, I won't touch you, okay? So don't cry anymore, okay?" Gerald began to speak softly.

Jennifer wiped away the remaining tears that hadn't been completely wiped away and looked at Gerald, trying to find a lie in his eyes.

“Why? Don’t you believe me? Do you want me to show you the CCTV footage? As it happens, almost every room in this penthouse is equipped with surveillance cameras!” Gerald was about to take out his mobile phone, but Jennifer’s hand stopped the phone and Gerald’s hand.

“I believe you! That’s not necessary! Thank you for looking after me last night!” Jennifer exclaimed again.

“No problem! Anytime! And no need for thanks! If you really want to thank me, then... It's better to show it in other ways!" Gerald said softly and sat down in front of Jennifer.

"What do you mean? What do you want?" Jennifer asked, confused.

Gerald didn't answer, but instead offered his cheek, and Jennifer's face turned red again.

"Gerald...!" Jennifer could only curse him softly.

"Okay! Okay! I was just joking! You're so tense! What did you dream about last night, anyway? Why were you so scared?" Gerald looked at Jennifer curiously.

Jennifer was confused and panicked. She couldn't possibly tell him about being chased by a pack of wolves and seeing murders and such. Or that she had turned into... a werewolf? No! Gerald would definitely think Jennifer was crazy!

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to! I'm going to take a shower first! You can use the other bathroom or... Alex's bathroom, if you want to shower and clean yourself up!" said Gerald as he stood up.

Jennifer remembered her son; she had almost forgotten about Alex.

"Oh, if I may ask, which room is Alex in?" Jennifer asked.

Gerald put his hand in his trousers, "Across from this room and next to this room is my room! You can see it if you want, and we can have breakfast together after you shower and change, of course."

"Alright! Then I'll go see him first," Jennifer said as she stood up.

"Okay! I'll accompany you!" said Gerald, following Jennifer again.

Jennifer turned her head and frowned, "Didn't you say you wanted to take a shower first?"

Gerald smiled, "I can do that later after seeing Alex! Or... maybe we can take a shower together?"

Gerald winked, and Jennifer grew even more annoyed, walking quickly before answering in a sharp tone.

"In your dreams!" She ran quickly towards the door of her room. From behind, she could still hear Gerald laughing.

"Hahahah..."

Jennifer, who looked angry, was about to slam the door shut, but then her phone rang.

Jennifer took her mobile phone out of her pocket.

Jennifer hesitated to answer the call and looked at Gerald with confusion.

Gerald approached her and tried to see who was calling Jennifer.

Gerald's hands clenched into fists, his face angry, or jealous?

"Just answer it! I want to know what that person wants to talk to you about again!" Gerald said, trying to control his emotions.

Jennifer nodded and nervously answered the call.

"H-hello, this is Jennifer Ross..."

A deep, hoarse voice came from the other end.

"Hi, Miss Ross... I…”
