Chapter 47 Refusing to Meet
Chapter 47 Refusing to Meet
In the office, Michael was video calling Susan.
She lay on the pristine white hospital bed, her face pale, looking like a fragile piece of glass.
"How are you feeling?" Michael asked in a low voice.
Susan smiled bitterly and nodded, her eyes downcast. "I'm feeling much better, thank you Michael. Without you, I wouldn't have known what to do."
"I still don't understand why Miss Harrison suddenly ran into me..."
As she spoke, she became more upset, tears rolling down her cheeks. "Maybe she was just trying to get back at me for Seraphina? I really shouldn't be alive. It would've been better if I'd died in that car accident. Then everyone wouldn't be suffering!"
"Don't say things like that."
Michael frowned, his eyes cold. "I'll give you an answer about what Wendy did. Get some rest."
With that, he hung up the video call.
---
Seraphina arrived at the Talbot Group. Before she could reach the elevator, she was stopped by the reception desk.
"Miss, who are you looking for?"
Seraphina glanced at them coolly - unfamiliar faces.
But then again, aside from those secretaries and assistants who looked down on her, no one at the Talbot Group really knew who she was.
So she said coldly, "I'm looking for Michael."
The receptionist thought she'd misheard and asked again, "Who are you looking for?"
"Michael."
This time, they let out a rude laugh.
They looked Seraphina up and down, and seeing her simple clothes, they rolled their eyes with even more disdain.
"Miss, if you want to see Mr. Talbot, do you have an appointment?"
Seraphina frowned. "No."
"Then I'm sorry, without an appointment, we can't let you go upstairs."
"I'm Michael's wife."
With the situation urgent, she could only reveal this identity.
But they didn't know Seraphina at all, so naturally they didn't believe her. Instead, they shook their heads coldly. "Sorry, but we've never seen you before!"
Seraphina was getting anxious and could only try calling Michael's number, but still no one answered.
She stood there, pacing back and forth anxiously.
The receptionists watched her every move and couldn't help but mock her.
"She actually dares to call herself Mrs. Talbot. Must be something wrong with her head. Would Mrs. Talbot dress this shabby? What's the use of being pretty - she's probably just a prostitute!"
"Oh, say less. Don't offend Mrs. Talbot. She can't even get through on the phone - how pathetic!"
"The bar for seducing men is really that low now? Dressed like a beggar and still dares to go after Mr. Talbot. Shameless! If that's all it takes, we could both be Mrs. Talbot too!"
They laughed as they talked, their voices not loud but just enough for Seraphina to hear, making her frown in disgust.
But right now, she was completely worried about Wendy and had no time to argue with them.
Seraphina simply turned and sat down somewhere farther away, continuing to think of a solution.
Seeing that she wouldn't leave even after being humiliated, the receptionists' faces turned ugly.
They walked over and tried to kick her out without hesitation.
"Why are you still here? The Talbot Group doesn't welcome you. Please leave immediately!"
"That's right, this isn't a place for low-class people. You don't belong here. Get out now!"
Seraphina frowned and looked at them coldly, her eyes dark. "Is this how the Talbot Group has always trained its employees? This level of professionalism is really not worth complimenting!"
"It's none of your business how we're trained!"
"Exactly! Never seen anyone so shameless. We're telling you to leave and you're still sitting here refusing to go. How desperate are you to seduce men?"
Seraphina curved her lips and looked up at them with a mocking smile. "True, it's none of my business. But I know many companies in the market really value their partners' employee training. So I don't mind letting internet users take a good look at what Talbot Group employees are really like!"
As Seraphina spoke, she pointed her phone screen at them.
On it was a video, from when they stood at the reception desk insulting and cursing at Seraphina, even following her to where she sat, still refusing to back down - their aggressive faces were truly frightening!
The two receptionists hadn't expected Seraphina to record them, and their faces turned pale.
"How could you secretly record us?"
Seraphina raised an eyebrow casually. "No one said I couldn't record. So are you going to let me through, or do you want me to post this video online?"
They looked at each other, understanding that once the video went online, their jobs would be over, and they'd likely have to compensate the company.
With no choice, they reluctantly apologized.
"We're sorry."
"We're sorry, miss. We didn't mean it, but without an appointment, you really can't go up..."
Seraphina couldn't be bothered with them.
She waved her hand, dismissing them.
After the two left, Seraphina sat there, continuing to call Michael.
But it was as if he was deliberately not answering. No matter how many times she called, there was never a response.
Just as Seraphina was at her wit's end, a flippant voice sounded above her head.
"Seraphina, what brings you to the Talbot Group!"
Seraphina was slightly stunned and looked up to see Ryan's annoying face.
He looked her up and down with a mocking expression. "Not going home in the middle of the night, sitting downstairs at the Talbot Group - don't tell me you're hoping Michael will change his mind and fall into your arms? You're dreaming!"
"Just look at yourself. What part of you can compare to Susan? Just having your name mentioned alongside hers is an insult to her!"
"Get lost!"
Seraphina couldn't be bothered with him and warned coldly.
Ryan wasn't angry at all. Instead, he laughed triumphantly. "You're here for that friend of yours, right? But too bad - she offended someone she shouldn't have! If we don't teach her a lesson, she won't learn who she can mess with and who she can't even touch. You just keep waiting here!"
With that, he swaggered toward the elevator.
The receptionist clearly knew him and not only didn't stop him but smiled in acknowledgment.
But Seraphina immediately caught the key point. She rushed forward and grabbed Ryan, her eyes full of raging anger.
"What do you mean by that? You know where Wendy is, don't you? Where is she? Hand her over, hand her over now!"
Ryan pushed her away and smiled smugly, but stubbornly said, "You're asking me? How would I know? Seraphina, aren't you always so capable? Go find her yourself if you can."
"Offended Susan and still wants to get away unscathed? Dream on!"
With that, he hummed a tune and went upstairs.
Seraphina stood there, clenching her fists, fury surging in her chest.
Why did it have to be this way?
This was clearly between the few of them, but they had to drag Wendy into it!
That night, she didn't see Michael.
For the next two days, she didn't see him either.
On the third day, she received a text message.
The message contained a photo of Wendy tied up, her hands and feet bound to a chair, even her mouth sealed tightly with tape!
