Chapter 24 So Vengeful!
Emily felt the penetrating gaze of Ethan, causing her heart to skip a beat.
She wasn't sure whether Ethan knew her true identity or not.
With her hand awkwardly suspended in mid-air, Emily faintly curled her lips and smiled, "Is Mr. Thomas germaphobic? My apologies if I was abrupt."
She was about to retract her hand, but his large palm gently covered hers, clasping it lightly. His warm hand gave her a sense of security.
"Miss Conner, nice to meet you," his cold voice echoed as Ethan slowly spoke.
Emily smiled faintly, trying to maintain her composure, "Mr. Thomas, I've heard a lot about you."
She secretly breathed a sigh of relief and thought, ‘It seems that Ethan is here to meet "Emily Conner" and not to seek me out as Emily Parker. After all, he said, "Nice to meet you," implying this is our first encounter.’
"I heard that the progress of the new drug development has been stagnant. I happened to pass by today and came to take a look," Ethan said in a deep voice, his gaze locked on the stack of documents in her hand.
Quickly placing the documents in front of him, Emily took a seat beside him and earnestly explained, "Mr. Thomas, this research indeed poses certain difficulties. We are currently searching for a breakthrough and believe we will soon have some results to present to you. You can review our experimental plans and know that we haven't been slacking off."
As the major investor in Emily Pharmaceuticals, Ethan Group was highly interested in the research results.
Emily's suspended heart finally relaxed.
After flipping through a few pages, Ethan casually asked, "But I heard Miss Conner isn't often in the company. You have been rarely seen. I wonder what you are usually busy with?"
Emily's heart skipped a beat again. Her heart immediately tensed up.
A thin layer of cold sweat seemed to ooze from her forehead. She forced a smile and said in a sweet voice, "Mr. Thomas, as you know, I have a professional background in medicine. I often stay in the laboratory conducting research. General management of the company is mainly handled by Mr. Greer."
She wasn't lying. There was a small laboratory set up for her in prison, specifically for her use. During her sentence, she spent most of her time there.
"As far as I know, this new drug research is currently Emily Pharmaceuticals's main project. I wonder what you have been researching?" His sharp and icy voice cut right to the point.
Emily quietly stuck out her tongue and smiled, "Mr. Thomas, I am researching for the next batch of new projects."
Ethan's brow suddenly furrowed. He thought, ‘This woman's every move is so similar to Emily's. But they can’t possibly be the same person. Emily Parker has a scar on her face, but Emily Conner does not. Perhaps this is just a coincidence.’
"Since Miss Conner sincerely cares about the company, I am pleased. However..." Ethan's dark eyes dimmed slightly, his voice low as he asked, "Does Miss Conner have a habit of wearing sunglasses indoors?"
Emily raised an eyebrow and realized that Ethan still had some suspicions about her.
She lightly curled her lips, "You may not know, but I have an eye disease. My eyes cannot tolerate much light."
"I see." Ethan seemed to suddenly understand, his expression still indifferent.
"If Mr. Thomas has any further questions about Emily Pharmaceuticals's operations, please feel free to ask," Emily respectfully offered.
"I have no more questions. Thank you for your hospitality, Miss Conner." Ethan ordered coldly, "Byron, back to the company."
Byron obediently replied, "Yes, Mr. Thomas."
Then, Byron pushed Ethan away, leaving Emily to cover her chest and let out a big sigh of relief.
Alexander quietly said, "Boss, it seems that Ethan didn't suspect you. He was just here for an inspection."
Emily nodded thoughtfully, "Seems like it."

Later that night, Emily took a taxi back to The Hall.
As she entered the living room, she came face to face with Harper.
Harper's eyes were red, tears streaking down her cheeks, giving her a pitiful appearance.
But the moment she saw Emily, her expression turned hostile. Her eyes filled with resentment, lips trembling, she gritted her teeth and exclaimed, "Emily!"
Emily raised an eyebrow intentionally and asked, "Miss Hines, what brings you here?"
Harper stomped her foot in frustration, her eyes filled with grievance and indignation. She clenched her teeth and said, "Emily, you're so ruthless. Aren't you afraid of karma?"
Emily clicked her tongue and pretended to be puzzled, "What are you talking about? If we talk about being ruthless, aren’t you far ahead? You were secretly getting involved with your fiancé's nephew, making your fiancé a cuckold. What exemplary behavior!"
Emily sarcastically praised her, giving her a thumbs-up.
Harper was almost driven mad. She sneered, "If it weren't for me accommodating you, how could you have risen from an ex-convict to a member of the Thomas family? How could you qualify to be the legitimate wife of Ethan? Emily, even though you've become his wife, don't forget the fact that you've been to prison!"
Yesterday, Harper was taken away in a crazy state by her parents from the Thomas Mansion.
At that time, Emily thought she was really going insane. Unexpectedly, she was still quite clear-headed.
"Miss Hines, then don't forget about your involvement with Bob," Emily retorted.
She knew that Bob must have kicked Harper away, or else Harper wouldn't have come to The Hall.
She knew that Harper came to The Hall today to beg Ethan for mercy.
"Emily, you!" Harper was furious.
But thinking that Ethan was still inside, she dared not shout loudly.
She clenched her fists tightly, swallowing her bitterness.
"This is The Hall. Please address me as Mrs. Thomas. Thank you!" Emily dropped these words and swaggered inside.
Harper was so angry that tears streamed down her face. She couldn't settle the score with Emily and could only stomp her feet in frustration before running out.
Emily glanced outside and couldn't help bursting into laughter.
At this moment, the sound of wheelchair wheels turning came. Emily turned around and saw that Ethan was controlling the wheelchair himself.
She knew he was at home, otherwise, Harper wouldn't have shown such a tearful expression just now.
She greeted him with a smile, "Mr. Thomas, I'm back."
"Where did you go this afternoon?" His dark eyes narrowed slightly as he went straight to the point.
Emily was caught off guard and awkwardly licked her lips, saying, "I went shopping and then chatted with a friend at a café. That's it.
“But Mr. Thomas, we only have a contractual relationship. I don't think I need to report my whereabouts and activities to you," she added.
Ethan sneered coldly, "Indeed, you don't."
Emily breathed a sigh of relief and smiled, "Alright, thank you, Mr. Thomas. By the way, what was Miss Hines here for just now?"
Emily was curious and felt a bit gossipy.
Ethan glanced at her indifferently and replied coldly, "Aren't we just bound by contract? I don't need to tell you about these matters."
Emily felt speechless and thought, ‘Why does this man have to be so vengeful?’
