Chapter 177 Could It Be That They Know?
Chapter 177 Could It Be That They Know?
The doctor nodded.
Amelia had a terrible feeling about this.
Albert had always wanted to snatch the child away. Now that the baby was out of their sight, there was no guarantee he wouldn't do something horrifying.
From the very beginning, all he wanted was a child.
Amelia left Hannah to watch over Victoria, then rushed to the neonatal ICU.
She stationed her people there to stand guard.
No matter what, she absolutely couldn't let Albert take the baby.
Meanwhile, elsewhere.
Albert's men, critically injured in the car crash, were rushed into the ICU. Soon after, the authorities traced the incident back to Albert.
They believed Albert had instigated the actions that caused this deadly accident.
Albert was quickly summoned for questioning, but he categorically denied everything, claiming it had nothing to do with him.
After leaving the station, Albert got into his car, his expression instantly turning murderous.
"Amelia, I'll make you pay dearly for this!" Albert seethed through gritted teeth. "By the way, what about the child?"
His assistant stammered, not daring to speak. Albert's face looked ready to kill.
With no choice, the assistant reported the situation truthfully.
The child had been born but was sent to the neonatal ICU.
Victoria was currently unconscious.
Victoria didn't matter to him—the child was what mattered most.
"Find a way to take the child," Albert commanded decisively.
The assistant hesitated. "Amelia has stationed quite a few bodyguards. They've got the ICU locked down tight. Our people went there, but there's no way to get the baby out."
At this, Albert flew into a rage. "That damn woman again!"
In that moment, he wanted nothing more than to kill Amelia himself!
Elsewhere.
Kelly had been investigating her biological father's death. After all this time, she discovered that the last person her father had contacted before going abroad was actually her uncle.
But her uncle had clearly stated that he never met with her father before he left the country.
Kelly had believed him without question.
"Ms. Marshall, according to our investigation, the last person your father saw was Mr. Evans."
The investigator's words echoed in her mind.
Kelly rubbed her throbbing temples, feeling an intense headache.
Why would Dylan lie?
What was hidden beneath all this?
Kelly wanted to confront Dylan directly, but...
No matter what, Dylan was still her uncle. After much deliberation, Kelly decided to go see for herself.
Leaving her office, Kelly stood outside her uncle's door, about to knock.
"Are you sure this is classified information?"
Dylan's voice.
Kelly paused, her raised hand frozen mid-air.
What classified information?
She stood at the door without moving, quietly listening to the voices inside.
"Of course. I paid a hefty price to get this."
A crisp woman's voice.
Kelly peered through the slightly open door and saw what was happening inside.
Dylan sat on the office sofa with an elegantly dressed woman.
The woman handed him a document. "This file contains Wilson Corporation's core secrets. With this, you can target Wilson Corporation directly. Becoming the industry leader will be child's play."
Dylan laughed. "Ms. Rivera, how your company made its fortune—I know perfectly well. You rely on these classified documents. Put simply, you're a corporate spy."
Jenny didn't deny it. "You're absolutely right. I did build my fortune this way. But many in the industry are my regular clients. They like working with me because my goods are always reliable."
Dylan smiled knowingly. "Ms. Rivera, I agree with what you're saying, but isn't your asking price a bit high?"
Jenny's lips curved slightly. "Mr. Evans, I'm already giving you rock-bottom pricing. I don't think anyone else in the industry can get their hands on Wilson Corporation's secrets."
That was certainly true.
Dylan considered for a moment. "Eighty million."
Jenny had originally asked for one hundred million, even though the document was priceless.
Jenny raised an eyebrow, looking distinctly dissatisfied.
"Does the chairman of Rona Corporation really lack this little bit of money?"
Dylan put on a troubled expression. "Ms. Rivera, I need this document very much. I'm just negotiating with you, hoping you can lower the price."
Jenny had actually obtained this document quite easily. Someone needed her to target Wilson Corporation, and she was simply leveraging the opportunity.
Plus, that annoying woman had crossed her before. This time, she'd get her revenge with interest.
"Mr. Evans, your price is within my consideration range. How about this—we both compromise. Add another five million, and we have a deal?"
Truthfully, Dylan felt quite anxious seeing this document.
Jenny was the industry's most notorious corporate spy. She'd sold classified documents to many company insiders.
They'd all made fortunes from those materials.
How could Dylan not be tempted?
Jenny's willingness to compromise was already the greatest sign of cooperation. After much deliberation, he gritted his teeth and agreed.
"Let's go with that price then."
Dylan extended his hand. "Pleasure doing business."
Jenny showed a genuine smile. "Pleasure doing business."
Kelly at the door couldn't help but frown. She never imagined Dylan would collaborate with Jenny's company.
If this kind of classified information trading were exposed, Dylan could go to prison!
But she didn't dare say much, since this was Dylan's decision.
Just as Kelly was about to leave, Jenny suddenly asked a question.
"I heard a body was discovered at Wilson Corporation's construction site. I wonder if that incident has anything to do with you?"
Jenny's smile was inscrutable.
Dylan's expression turned extremely ugly.
He'd been extraordinarily careful about that incident years ago. No one else could possibly know.
Yet Jenny was bringing up that old matter out of the blue. Could she know something?
Dylan's heart leapt to his throat.
