Chapter 176 A Race Against Life and Death
Chapter 176 A Race Against Life and Death
Victoria trembled uncontrollably as her assistant instinctively stepped in front of her.
"Whatever you want, come at me! Leave her alone!"
Albert's men paid no attention to the assistant. They shoved her aside and seized Victoria, dragging her toward the door.
Victoria grabbed a nearby chair and held on for dear life.
"Let me go! I won't go with you!"
Albert's expression darkened as he glared at this foolish woman.
If he didn't care about the child in her belly, he would never show her any mercy.
"Listen carefully—if anything happens to this baby, you won't live to see another day. Take her!"
At his command, Albert's men pried Victoria's fingers off the chair one by one.
Victoria's face filled with helplessness and despair as she was dragged out of the villa.
Just as they were forcing Victoria into the car, a red sports car screeched to a halt in front of the villa. Amelia and Hannah jumped out quickly, followed by an SUV pulling up behind them.
Several bodyguards emerged from the vehicle.
"Albert, I don't know how you found out she was here, but she has nothing to do with you. What gives you the right to take her?" Amelia stepped forward, her voice cold and demanding.
Albert's eyes glinted with malice as he looked at Amelia.
If not for her interference, he would already have secured Director Woods's shares and taken control of the company.
And now she'd taken away Victoria, the woman carrying the child he'd been desperately waiting for.
Amelia had been opposing him at every turn.
"Amelia, we don't have any real grudge between us. Stay out of this, and I won't target you at the company anymore."
Amelia laughed at his words.
Ever since she'd decided to become the company's successor, she'd never feared anyone's opposition.
"Albert, you think too highly of yourself. Do you honestly believe you alone could be a serious threat to me at the company?" Amelia's smile dripped with contempt.
Albert felt utterly humiliated.
"Amelia, don't refuse a toast only to be forced to drink a forfeit." Albert gritted his teeth. "If I truly became your enemy, I could destroy you anytime."
Finally, his true colors showed.
Amelia's lips curved upward with even more disdain.
"Albert, that's the first thing you've said that makes me take you seriously."
The provocation was unmistakable.
Albert's eyes turned red with rage. No matter what, he had to take Victoria today. He shot a look at his men.
They shoved Victoria into the car, and the driver floored the accelerator. The vehicle sped away.
Amelia immediately signaled her bodyguards, who jumped into their car and gave chase.
Albert's expression turned grim. "Amelia, you won't stop me today!"
He turned and got into his own car.
Soon, his vehicle disappeared from Amelia's sight.
"Ms. Wilson, shouldn't we chase after them too? I'm worried he'll take Victoria away, and we'll lose our only leverage," Hannah said anxiously.
Amelia remained calm. "Don't worry. I've already contacted the authorities. Albert is guilty of illegal activity and forcible entry into a private residence."
Her voice was confident.
Hannah suddenly understood. She hadn't thought of that—no wonder Amelia had been on the phone the whole way here.
Soon, the two vehicles were racing down the highway.
About ten minutes later, the car carrying Victoria encountered a police roadblock. Officers signaled for the vehicle to stop.
The bodyguard immediately called Albert. "Boss, the police are blocking us. What do we do? Should we stop?"
"No!" Albert immediately objected, his voice urgent. "I can't lose the child Victoria's carrying. No matter what, you have to bring her to me today!"
After those words, the vehicle ahead shot forward like an arrow.
When the officers signaled again for the car to stop, it charged through the roadblock like a wild beast.
Police vehicles immediately gave chase, their flashing lights forming a stream as they pursued relentlessly.
As the police cars closed in with overwhelming force, the fleeing vehicle made a sharp turn in panic. It crashed headlong into a guardrail.
The impact produced a massive explosion.
By the time Amelia received the news, the authorities had already rushed the injured to the hospital.
Victoria's condition was critical. After the car struck the guardrail, she'd hemorrhaged severely and fallen unconscious.
When Amelia and Hannah arrived at the hospital, the emergency room's red light glared ominously.
Hannah's brow furrowed. "Ms. Wilson, do you think she'll be okay?"
Amelia looked worried, her expression grave. "The car was badly damaged. I don't know if they can save the baby."
Time crawled by as Amelia and Hannah grew increasingly anxious.
Two and a half hours later, the emergency room light finally went out.
Nurses wheeled Victoria out, followed by the doctor.
Amelia strode forward quickly and asked about Victoria's condition.
"Doctor, how is the patient?"
The doctor removed his mask, revealing a solemn expression.
"When the accident occurred, the patient's abdomen suffered severe impact. Fortunately, she was brought in quickly. We performed an emergency C-section and delivered the baby, who's now in the neonatal ICU."
"However, the patient lost a significant amount of blood and remains unconscious. She's been moved to a room for observation."
Amelia immediately caught the key point in the doctor's words.
"The baby was taken to the neonatal ICU right after delivery?"
