Headache
Jed arrived at Levis a few hours after he left Leoma’s. Walking up to his front door he stood on the porch and looked around the yard. Wondering if he was being watched by
the ugly ass creature. Shrugging his shoulders till his neck cracked. He raised his hand and knocked.
Levi answered the door, Jed stood there looking at Levi. “Are you going to let me in jerk?” Jed raised his hands up looking at Levi like he was an idiot.
“Maybe.” Smiling Levi moved to the side and Jed walked in.
“Where’s Rachel?” Jed asked looking around the living room for her
“In the bathroom taking a shit I guess.” Levi answered as he shut the front door.
“She tells you when she takes a shit?” Jed looked at him with his eyebrows raised “No dumb ass, it was a sarcastic remark.” Shaking his head he thought how gullible Jed
can be sometimes.
While Levi was talking to Jed Rachel walked in wearing a t-shirt from Levi dresser. “Jed, how are you? heard you’ve been hunting that awful creature with Levi?”
“Yeap, but you look pretty good in that t-shirt.” Jed said as he looked her over, his eyes hovering over her bare legs. The shirt hit mid-thigh on her.
“Well thank you sir, I mighty appreciate that.” Smiling at Jed she looked over towards Levi to see his reaction, just what she thought, obviously it didn’t bother him because
He’s too busy scrounging around in the fridge for another beer.
Rolling her eyes, Jed laughed at her. “He’ll come around eventually Rachel.”
“Maybe it’s dead and the three guys killed it?” Rachel asked hopefully wringing her hands together getting nervous just thinking about it.
“I don’t know but if we don’t hear anything from them by tomorrow, I think we need to go to Leoma’s or the old homestead.” Levi told the other two.
“I’m going with you, don’t even think about leaving me again.” She poked Levi in the chest with her finger.
“We won’t leave you; you can go.” Levi pulled his fingers through her hair and twirled a
strand through his fingers. She loved it when he touched her, it was like sometimes he forgot that they were just friends, and he really did care for her.
“I have this pain in my head again, probably anxiety I guess.” Rubbing her temples with her
The palm of her hand the other two just looked at her like it must be a girl thing, not asking her about it.
She rolled her eyes, convinced they were both stupid brutes.
“Again Rachel? You just got rid of the last one.” Levi asked her as Jed stood in front of him listening to their conversation.
“I know, that’s why maybe it’s stress? It’s coming and going in waves it seems like.” She walked over to the cabinet to pull out some more Tylenol’s to take. Jed walked over and poured her a glass of water so she wouldn’t choke on the pills as they were being swallowed.
“Thank you, Jed, you are so considerate.” Looking back at Levi with the pills in her hand. “Unlike some people.” She added as her eyes squinted towards Levi.
Levi shrugged his shoulders, he’s a man what did she expect?
I need to lay back down, this headache is getting me sick to my stomach. Sitting the glass down she walked back into Levi’s bedroom, shut the door and laid back down.
While Rachel was resting, Levi and Jed were sitting on the front porch swing talking about everything that had happened.
“Do you think the Alp went to the old homestead?” Jed asked Levi.
Levi was swinging on the porch sipping on his beer, looking down at his front lawn. A fawn came out of the woods and noticed the two men on the porch. Levi just stared at it while the fawn stared back. “I’m not sure, but I do know if we don’t’ kill it then everything we know, like that fawn, can disappear. Our world can change, maybe more of them can come and kill everything that we know of.” As Levi spoke his mind to Jed the fawn lifted its head and turned to run back into the forest.
Jed closed his eyes, “Why here? In all the places it could have ended up why here?” shaking his head wishing that everything that had happened was just a dream and he would wake up any second. But Jed knew better, it was really happening.
Later that evening when the sun started to go down. Rachel woke up, her headache was worse. She was almost in tears this time. Putting both of her hands over her ears she sat up and rested her elbows on her knees. Her head hurt so bad. A pain like a lighting bolt went through her head, her back arched and she screamed.
Jed and Levi rushed in, “What’s wrong?” Levi asked, seeing Rachel holding her head and her back arched. Like she was stiff but bent. Going over to her he put his hand under her back and the other on the side of her face. “Talk to me Rachel, what’s going on? Can you hear me?”
“
Should we take her to the hospital?” Jed said as he stood there not knowing what to do.
“No, I think it has to do with the Alp, he was doing something to her on the back porch and ever since she has been having these headaches.” As soon as he was done speaking her body relaxed and she dropped into the mattress. Her eyes were still closed like she was sleeping but she looked okay.
“Let’s just watch her if she doesn’t wake up then maybe we’ll take her to the hospital.” Levi looked at Jed over his shoulder while talking to him.
“Okay, we will wait but yeah, it could have something to do with that creature. Let’s go into the living room so she can finish sleeping her headache away.” Jed mentioned turning and walking back into the living room while Levi followed.
