Chapter 277
Chapter 277
What caught Calvin off guard was that instead of explaining, Sabrina let out a cold sneer. "Since you already know, I won't hide it from you anymore."
"Now that the Wallace Family has gone bankrupt, naturally you're no longer qualified to be around me and Alexander."
"Don't tell me you can't even understand something this simple?"
The words hit Calvin like a punch to the gut.
He staggered back a step, staring in disbelief at the woman he'd protected for over a decade. "Does Alexander think the same way?"
Sabrina rolled her eyes at him, her face full of mockery. "When the Wallace Family ran into trouble this time, did Alexander lift a finger to help you?"
Calvin stumbled back several steps, his eyes reddening as he bit down hard. "Fine! Then from now on, we'll stay out of each other's way—"
Sabrina cut him off impatiently. "Good! I hope you mean it."
Looking at Sabrina's cold expression, Calvin finally laughed bitterly. "Fine."
With that, he turned to leave.
But he'd barely taken two steps when Sabrina's voice came from behind, dripping with condescension. "For old times' sake, let me tell you a secret."
Calvin stopped abruptly and turned back toward Sabrina.
She casually adjusted her wedding dress, speaking in a leisurely tone. "The one who's been secretly going after the Wallace Family all along? That's Landon, the owner of Zenith Enterprises Group."
Calvin's eyes went red. "Why? I've never done anything to offend him!"
A flash of contempt crossed Sabrina's delicate face. "But you offended Charlotte."
Calvin's breath caught. "So it's because of Charlotte?"
Sabrina smiled brightly. "That's right. All because of Charlotte."
Calvin stared at her for a long moment before turning away decisively.
Watching Calvin's cheap-looking outfit disappear, Sabrina spat in disgust and ordered the store clerk, "Quick, get me a hot towel. I need to wash my hands."
That day, Charlotte finally got a rare chance to go shopping with Jenna.
Since she had company, Charlotte told her bodyguards not to follow her.
Half an hour later, the two were happily browsing when suddenly someone charged out from the side, wielding a knife and lunging straight at Charlotte!
"Charlotte! I'm going to kill you, you bitch!"
It all happened so fast. Before Charlotte could react, Jenna had already jumped in front of her!
Watching the knife plunge toward Jenna, Charlotte screamed in horror. "No!"
The blade gleamed coldly as it drove toward Jenna's heart.
Charlotte's blood ran cold!
In that split second, a figure shot forward like an arrow, shielding Jenna while landing a devastating punch on the attacker!
When Charlotte came to her senses, she saw Lucas pinning the attacker to the ground, raining down punches. "You dare hurt my wife? You're dead!"
Charlotte's heart was still racing from the shock when she took another hit.
Lucas had shown her special attention before, and later kept trying to ask her to hang out—could it have all been because of Jenna?
Charlotte's heart trembled.
But the next moment, Jenna beside her let out a muffled groan. "Ah."
Charlotte panicked and immediately grabbed her. "Jenna, what's wrong?"
Jenna's face had gone pale, her teeth clenched as she gasped for breath. "My stomach hurts."
"Your stomach!"
Charlotte cried out, but before she could do anything, Lucas was already at their side like the wind, sweeping Jenna up in his arms. "Honey! What's wrong? Don't scare me!"
Charlotte was finally putting the pieces together.
But there was no time to think about it now. She urgently called out to the panicked Lucas, "Quick, carry Jenna to my car!"
Soon, the three of them rushed toward the parking lot.
Left behind, Calvin lay on the ground like a beaten dog, his face bruised and swollen from Lucas's assault.
But hearing the distant wail of police sirens, he immediately gritted his teeth and struggled to his feet. Wiping the blood from his mouth, he staggered through the gathered crowd and quickly disappeared into the shadows.
Hopewell Hospital.
Charlotte and Lucas waited anxiously outside the examination room.
That's when Charlotte finally heard from Lucas about everything between him and Jenna.
Learning that Jenna was pregnant with Lucas's child, Charlotte was shocked and silently cursed herself for being such an idiot.
She'd been so focused on the competition and work these past days that she'd completely missed the signs.
Just as she was berating herself, the examination room door finally opened.
The doctor emerged first.
Lucas immediately rushed forward. "Doctor! How's my wife?"
The doctor, just pulling down his mask, winced slightly. "Sir, could you loosen your grip first?"
Only then did Lucas realize he'd grabbed the doctor too tightly.
After Lucas let go, the doctor delivered the good news with relief. "Fortunately, you got her here in time. The patient just needs a few days of good rest and she'll be fine."
"But you absolutely must be careful from now on. The mother can't be subjected to any more shocks."
Lucas nodded. "Absolutely!"
As soon as he finished speaking, a nurse wheeled Jenna out.
"Jenna." Lucas quickly approached her, his voice incredibly gentle.
Charlotte watched with a smile, suddenly feeling like she shouldn't interrupt the two of them.
But just then, Jenna, lying on the gurney, swung her hand back and slapped Lucas across the face. "This is all your fault!"
"If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be suffering like this!"
Charlotte was startled.
Given Lucas's temperament, he absolutely wouldn't tolerate being hit, especially being slapped in front of everyone.
Instead, Lucas grabbed Jenna's hand and slapped his own face with it twice more. "Honey, if you want to, hit me a few more times. I've got thick skin—it doesn't hurt."
There's actually this kind of operation? Charlotte's eyes were opened.
Just then, a nurse gasped. "Sir, you're injured!"
