Chapter 128 Poison Outbreak
"Matthew, I feel terrible."
It hurt so much, and she was freezing.
Sophia's pale lips trembled uncontrollably.
Waves of sharp pain surged through her, each one stronger than the last.
Tears fell beyond her control as Sophia scrunched up her face pitifully.
Matthew's heart clenched painfully. He frantically pulled medical supplies from Sophia's bag.
As Robert's top student, Matthew might not match Sophia's exceptional talent, but his medical skills were nearly unmatched.
He performed emergency treatment on Sophia, cold sweat gradually beading on his forehead.
Oscar sat in the driver's seat, his heart tightening with worry.
"Where's the antidote your master made for you?" Matthew asked coldly.
Sophia's pale lips parted slightly as she spoke slowly, "I finished it."
Matthew choked on his breath, nearly passing out from anger.
"You ran out and didn't think to come find me? Do you know what could have happened tonight if I hadn't shown up in time?"
Sophia kept her eyes tightly shut, her head splitting with pain.
She barely heard what Matthew was saying.
She just nodded absently.
Her whole demeanor screamed indifference.
If it weren't for the fact that Sophia's poison was acting up, Matthew would definitely give this idiot who didn't know how to take care of herself a proper lecture!
He slowly exhaled a heavy breath and used the back of his hand to check the temperature of Sophia's cheek.
Her cheeks had lost all color, pale as paper, looking sickly and fragile.
Like a delicate porcelain doll.
She made people want to protect her, to hold her carefully in their palms.
Matthew reached into Sophia's bag again and pulled out a porcelain bottle.
However, it was completely empty.
"You finished the Revival Elixir too?" Matthew frowned and ordered Oscar, "Go to the villa."
The villa he mentioned was naturally where he lived.
Hearing this, Sophia's long lashes trembled slightly as she reached out to grab his sleeve.
"Matthew, take me back to the White Manor."
"You're in this condition and you're still thinking about going back to the White Manor?"
"He'll worry."
Sophia opened her eyes weakly, her clear eyes full of grievance.
"No way! Sophia, you're coming home with me, and don't even think about anything else!"
Matthew was both angry and amused by Sophia's stubbornness.
He never expected that even now, Sophia was still thinking about returning to the White Manor, thinking about Benjamin.
She'd only known Benjamin for such a short time, yet she was willing to risk her life for him.
"Matthew, please. I'm already much better now, I'll be fine soon." Sophia pleaded sweetly.
"No." Matthew firmly refused her request.
Sophia lowered her eyes in disappointment and reached out to pull out the silver needles.
Matthew's eyelid twitched hard as he quickly grabbed her wrist.
"Are you trying to kill yourself? It's not time yet. If you stop the treatment now, everything I just did will be wasted. Are you crazy?"
Sophia's eyes reddened slightly as she pouted pitifully.
"Matthew, you're being mean to me..."
Meeting Sophia's watery eyes, Matthew's anger instantly dissipated by half.
He guiltily looked away. "I wasn't. Don't accuse me."
"You were, you were! You just yelled at me."
"Do you have any idea why I yelled at you? The master and I worked so hard to detoxify you, just to watch you destroy yourself like this?" Matthew sneered, wanting nothing more than to throw this little idiot out.
Sophia pressed her lips together and stopped talking.
The car suddenly fell silent, and Matthew felt strangely uncomfortable.
He turned to look at Sophia and saw her eyes tightly closed, breathing shallowly.
As if she'd fallen asleep.
Oscar asked, "Mr. Moore, are we still going to the villa?"
Matthew was silent for a moment, then slowly sighed. "Forget it, go to the White Manor."
When enough time had passed, Matthew removed the medical equipment from Sophia, took off his jacket, and draped it over her.
He instructed Oscar to stop the car on the roadside not far from the White Manor.
Sophia's pale complexion gradually returned to normal, and she didn't wake up until late at night.
"Matthew."
Sophia rubbed her eyes and sat up from the seat.
Her clear eyes held the drowsiness of just waking up.
"Does it still hurt?" Matthew asked worriedly.
"Not anymore."
"I'll have someone deliver medicine to you tomorrow morning to temporarily suppress the poison in your body. It's too late now, you should go back first."
Matthew lowered his eyes, his expression unreadable.
His handsome face flickered between light and shadow in the dim lighting, making it impossible to read his mood.
Sophia inexplicably felt that he was angry.
She bit her lip, an indescribable discomfort rising in her heart.
She placed the jacket that had been draped over her to the side and pushed open the car door.
Matthew leaned back in the rear seat, his eyes fixed on Sophia's retreating figure.
"Do you think I shouldn't interfere with Sophia's love life?"
Matthew's low, hoarse voice came from the back seat.
Oscar's heart jumped, and he immediately said, "Mr. Brown will definitely understand your good intentions!"
"Will she?" Matthew smiled bitterly and said nothing more.
Through the rearview mirror, Oscar glanced back and saw Matthew wearily closing his eyes, his thin lips pressed into a tight line.
For some reason, Oscar heard a sense of desolation and helplessness in that last sentence.
After getting out of the car, a cool breeze hit Sophia's face.
Sophia gently rubbed her cheeks, pulled out a lipstick from her bag, and applied it simply.
After confirming that the haggardness on her face wasn't visible, Sophia finally breathed a sigh of relief.
She took a deep breath and walked into the White Manor as if nothing had happened.
This actually wasn't the first time Sophia's poison had acted up since her marriage.
It was just that she'd been holding on with medicine her master had made before leaving, so nothing serious had happened.
But this time her master had been gone too long, and she'd run out of medicine.
If she hadn't run into Matthew, she didn't know what she would have faced.
When the poison was acting up, all Sophia could think about was Benjamin.
Now she was even more eager to see him.
However, as soon as she approached the master bedroom, she heard voices coming from inside.
"Benjamin, are you still unwilling to forgive me for what happened three years ago? I really know I was wrong. It wasn't actually my idea, it was all Amelia's arrangement."
It was Magnolia's voice.
Sophia's steps faltered slightly.
Then, a cold voice came from the room.
"It has nothing to do with me. Leave."
The brief sentence was full of disgust and rejection.
Magnolia's heart filled with resentment.
Why could Sophia marry him, but she couldn't?
"Benjamin, I truly like you. Why won't you even look at me?"
Benjamin's face darkened, his eyes full of coldness.
"Can you not understand human speech? Just because I don't usually get physical with women doesn't mean I won't." A shadow passed through Benjamin's eyes.
Meeting Benjamin's murderous gaze, Magnolia shrank back hard.
A flash of panic crossed her eyes.
Just then, faint footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.
