Chapter 127 Pain Relief
"Since that's the case, you should know what price you'll have to pay once you make this choice."
Matthew clenched his fists tightly, struggling to suppress the turmoil inside him.
He had originally thought that Sophia married Benjamin because she had no choice.
He never expected she could go this far for him!
"I know."
Sophia's nose tingled as she answered quietly, "Matthew, I have no other choice."
Sophia's eyes were red-rimmed, glistening with clear tears. She looked pitiful yet stubborn.
Once Sophia made a decision, she would never look back.
As her eldest senior brother, he knew this better than anyone.
Matthew's mind drifted back to seventeen years ago, to the first time he met Sophia.
Sophia had just turned three then, a tiny little thing curled up in a garbage pile, already delirious from hunger.
She was filthy all over, like a broken, discarded doll, without a trace of soul or life.
Matthew didn't know why, but that day he spotted her hiding in the garbage pile at first glance.
When he picked Sophia up, she was barely breathing and poisoned with a strange toxin.
Master said that Sophia surviving was already a miracle.
Death didn't want to claim her life.
From then on, the three senior brothers gained a sweet, soft, and adorable junior sister.
They were all people without families, only able to huddle together for warmth.
Sophia became the most cherished one among them.
Master and the three of them gave her all their love.
They couldn't bear to see her suffer even the slightest grievance.
But now Sophia was telling him she wanted to sacrifice her chance to live for a man.
How could Matthew accept this?
"Sophia, I can agree to anything you ask, except this. Go back. I won't give you the medicine."
"Matthew, but you promised me! Liars are puppies!" Sophia tugged at Matthew's sleeve pitifully, acting cute.
"I'm a dog. You can leave now." Matthew's face was stern, his voice cold without a trace of warmth.
Sophia felt a sharp pain in her chest.
She opened her mouth, wanting to say more, but Matthew was already unwilling to pay her any attention.
He kept his head down, seriously flipping through the documents on his desk, as if Sophia didn't exist.
Sophia's eyes reddened as she lowered her gaze in hurt.
Ever since she could remember, Matthew had never been this cold to her.
He was truly angry.
Sophia thought silently to herself.
Although she had expected this outcome, she still couldn't help feeling a bit sad.
She reached up to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes, took one last deep look at Matthew, then turned and left.
After Sophia left, Matthew slowly raised his eyes, which were filled with murderous intent.
He suddenly swept his hand across the desk, knocking all the documents to the floor.
"Benjamin!"
Leaving the Lumina Group, Sophia stared blankly at the bustling street, not knowing where to go for a moment.
She hadn't expected Matthew to get this angry.
But she had no other choice.
She didn't want Benjamin to die.
But what should she do?
After walking along the road for a long time, Sophia suddenly stopped.
A sharp pain shot through her chest.
Sophia quickly crouched down, curling herself into a ball.
The piercing pain spread through her entire body.
Tears involuntarily welled up at the corners of her eyes.
Sophia's pain nerves weren't very sensitive, so her perception of pain was much weaker than normal people's.
But even so, when the poison flared up and the pain swept through her entire body, Sophia still felt an almost convulsive agony.
She gritted her teeth, enduring it silently without a sound.
The intense stabbing pain grew stronger wave after wave.
Sophia's hands trembled as she took out a Revival Elixir from her bag.
But the effect wasn't obvious.
Over the years, she had taken too much medicine, and her body had started to build immunity.
For ordinary people, the Revival Elixir was a good antidote.
For her, it couldn't even provide basic pain relief.
Sophia smiled bitterly, Benjamin's handsome, cold face flashing through her mind.
When his poison flared up, it must hurt even more than this.
Just then, a voice suddenly came from behind her.
"Hey beautiful, are you here alone? Not feeling well? Want me to take you home?"
Sophia looked up to see a man holding a bottle of alcohol, walking unsteadily toward her.
He had a sleazy smile on his face, and his gaze toward Sophia was filled with naked amazement and boldness.
That kind of look made Sophia physically sick.
She frowned and struggled to stand up.
"Get lost!"
The man froze, then burst out laughing.
"I thought you were a sweet little thing, but you're a spicy one! No problem, I love that type!"
As he spoke, the man approached Sophia and reached out to pull her into his arms.
Sophia's eyes turned cold as she quickly stepped back two paces.
"What do you think you're doing?"
"Don't be nervous. I just think it's not safe for you to be here alone. Want to come back with me? I've got fun stuff at my place, I guarantee you'll love it!" The man's face was full of drunkenness.
As he spoke, he gently stroked his beer belly.
Sophia couldn't help but shudder in disgust.
She clenched her fists tightly, her nails digging into her flesh to keep herself alert.
It was already late at night, and there weren't many pedestrians left on the street.
Sophia silently calculated the possibility of escape.
But before she could react, the man impatiently approached her.
"Beautiful, don't be scared, I'm definitely not a bad guy!"
Looking at the hand reaching toward her, Sophia's body swayed almost imperceptibly.
She instinctively held her breath as the scene before her eyes began to spin.
Sophia knew this was bad.
Just then, a hand with prominent knuckles grabbed the man's wrist hard and twisted it viciously.
The man's wrist hurt, and he screamed out in pain.
A crisp sound of bones breaking rang out.
The man immediately burst into tears, sobering up considerably.
He begged pitifully, "Spare me! I'll never dare again! Please let me go!"
"You dare to touch just anyone! Oscar, tie him up."
Oscar immediately stepped forward and escorted the man away.
With the danger gone, Sophia breathed a heavy sigh of relief.
Matthew quickly caught Sophia in his arms, his eyes full of worry.
"What's going on? Your poison flared up?"
"Matthew."
Sophia's pale lips parted slightly as she spoke weakly.
"It hurts..."
"Now you know it hurts?" The veins on Matthew's forehead bulged as he scooped her up and carried her into the car.
"I'm finding those medicines for you precisely because I don't want to see you like this. And what do you do... turn around and want to give them to someone else! You ungrateful little thing!"
Matthew's face was full of anger.
Waves of cold emanated from his body, making Sophia shiver.
She curled herself into a ball, her delicate, rosy cheeks now completely drained of color.
