Chapter 19 Visit
"Good girl, Caroline is now Nicholas's personal secretary. Seeing her is like seeing Nicholas himself. Don't let her temper stop you. You will be Mrs. Johnson in the future!" Avery comforted in a gentle voice. She understood her own daughter very well. Stella's anger from the last banquet had not subsided yet.
"As for the incident at the last banquet where Caroline intentionally made you look bad, once you become Mrs. Johnson, Caroline will be a discarded woman, and you can deal with her as you please," Avery said, a hint of cruelty flashing in her eyes. She had spoiled Stella since childhood and had not let her suffer any grievances, but she had repeatedly suffered losses from Caroline.
"Well, I won't argue with Caroline for now. When I marry Nicholas in a while, I will make her return everything she owes me, old and new!" Stella lifted her chin proudly, as if victory was already in her grasp.
"Wait, I had the servant cook some chicken soup. You can take it to Nicholas later, and also this." After saying this, Avery handed Stella a bag of powder and mysteriously patted the back of her hand.
"What is this?" Stella opened her palm, and a bag of bulging powder lay quietly in her hand. Stella immediately understood that when she snatched John away from Caroline, she had used this method. The mother and daughter were very familiar with it.
Stella exchanged a glance with her mother, and her mother went downstairs to get the chicken soup.
Following her mother's instructions, Stella carried the seasoned chicken soup and went to Johnson's residence.
"Hello, who are you looking for? Do you have an appointment?" The front desk stopped Stella according to the rules. Stella had no work permit or uniform, and she did not look like an employee of their company. The front desk had seen many women like her.
"I'm looking for Caroline, not Nicholas...ah, I mean, I'm her sister. I came to deliver something to my sister today." Stella smiled lightly, looking innocent.
"I have already informed my sister, and she is waiting for me upstairs." Stella added when she saw the front desk hesitate.
Almost everyone in the Johnson family knew the name, Caroline. She had just arrived and had already replaced a CEO's secretary. She usually went in and out with Nicholas, and over time, Caroline became known as the most difficult person to deal with in the entire Johnson family. The front desk didn't have the courage to call and confirm, so they had to let Stella in.
"Please come in."
"You let her in without confirming with your superiors?" Another person who was organizing attendance sheets suddenly looked up and asked. After all, her actions were not in compliance with regulations.
"Oh, come on. Didn't you hear her say that she's Caroline's sister? How could I offend her? I don't want to lose my job." The front desk girl muttered softly.
"What if she's a fraudster? Aren't you afraid of losing your job?" the other girl retorted.
"Didn't you see how much she looks like Caroline?" The receptionist could only see her when Caroline came to clock in for work every day, but she had the impression that Caroline and Stella looked very similar.
Stella smoothly passed through the receptionist and went straight to the top floor using the elevator she had previously inquired about. The top floor was only frequented by Nicholas, Caroline, James, and a few people who came to make presentations. The whole floor was quiet as if nobody was there.
It wasn't time for senior staff to come and make reports yet, so James went to summarize what he had just said in the meeting, leaving only Nicholas and Caroline on the floor.
Stella's high heels made crisp sounds on the ground, but Caroline was busy checking documents with her head down and didn't notice. "Hey, isn't this sister?" Stella laughed lightly and said with a teasing smile, "So as a person who has been in prison, you can still become a secretary? If I were you, I would have stayed at home and not come out. Don't you really fear being laughed at by Nicholas's employees and let them know that Nicholas's secretary is someone who has been to prison and killed someone?"
Stella spoke as if it was just a casual matter. "Do you not know what really happened? You should be the one who's afraid. Afraid that I'll reveal the truth about what happened back then. Otherwise, you wouldn't have run away so quickly at the banquet. You really should have stayed at home and not come out to make a fool of yourself."
Caroline was not fond of impulsive remarks, but if she continued to remain silent, she feared that Stella would become even more bold in bringing up the matter.
"You!" Stella knew that Caroline had something against her, but since she had no evidence, she couldn't confront her. Stella had come with the intention of cursing her out, but decided to suppress her anger when she remembered the purpose of her visit today. "Well, I didn't come here to argue with you. Congratulations on finding a job as a secretary. Mom and Dad wanted me to come to see you and ask you to visit home more often." Stella flipped her hair over her ear, but didn't offer the chicken soup she was carrying to Caroline.
"Hmm, home? That's not my home. Do you have something to tell me? If you don't, please leave." Caroline furrowed her brows, not wanting to waste any more time with Stella.
"Of course I have something. Where's Mr. Nicholas? Mom asked me to bring you guys some chicken soup since you're both so busy." Stella became impatient. She was here to see Nicholas, not to bother Caroline.
Caroline surveyed the surroundings and asked, clutching the thermos tightly in her hand, "Are they really that kind-hearted?"
Stella laughed lightly at Caroline's anxious demeanor. The intentions of Caroline and her mother were made clear from the beginning, and Stella never believed that she was here to visit her. Whether it was the last time she visited Caroline's home, or her sudden appearance at the banquet, or even today, her intention was always to see Nicholas.
"He's inside. Go find him yourself," Caroline said, hooking her lips into a slight smile. Her beautiful red lips parted, and she was curious to see what Stella had in mind this time.
"Sister, can you help me get something I forgot at the front desk? It's just a small box." Stella suddenly turned around and asked Caroline.
"Okay." Caroline stood up slowly and entered the elevator, under Stella's watchful gaze. She returned to the same floor after getting off on the next floor. She had no interest in playing games with Stella, whether she had actually forgotten something at the front desk or not was of no concern to her.
"Knock, knock, knock." Stella used the time to check herself in the mirror, touch up her makeup, and adjust the neckline of her dress before knocking on Nicholas's office door.
