Chapter 18 Dismiss
"Put down your things and go out," Nicholas thought the person who came in was James, and only then did he speak. It wasn't until he realized that the person didn't make any movements that he looked up.
"Mr. Nicholas, if you want to dismiss me, you need to give me a convincing reason. I have worked diligently by your side for these years and have not made any mistakes in my work. I don't believe you will just dismiss me like this!!" Emily gritted her teeth and spoke, not lifting her head to look at Nicholas, but instead focusing her gaze on Caroline standing beside her.
Caroline was deep in thought and only looked up in confusion after hearing Emily's voice. As their eyes met, she saw jealousy and hatred in Emily's eyes.
"What's going on? Is it because of me?" Caroline furrowed her brows slightly. If she guessed correctly, this matter should have something to do with her. She then turned her head to look at Nicholas.
"Do you want evidence? Is this enough?" Nicholas snorted coldly and threw the piles of documents in his hand at Emily.
Those densely packed documents contained evidence of Emily's years of bullying her colleagues and framing others for her mistakes, all to maintain her perfect image in front of Nicholas. She had done a lot of underhanded things behind his back.
"I, I...this isn't me..." Emily picked up a piece of paper from the ground and after reading it, her face turned pale. She remembered clearly how she had climbed to this position step by step with malice towards others.
Nicholas didn't want Caroline to feel guilty, so he asked James to check on these things. After all, Caroline was the key player in today's performance.
"Don't overthink it." Nicholas reached out and gently touched Caroline's furrowed brow.
"Did you see clearly? My Johnson family doesn't need someone like you who is deceitful and unscrupulous." Nicholas snorted coldly, completely different from the gentle person who had just spoken to Caroline.
"Mr. Nicholas, it's not, it's not me..."
"Get out." Emily wanted to argue some more, but Nicholas interrupted her.
For the first time, Caroline felt the terror of the legendary Nicholas. She had almost forgotten that he was such a strict and ruthless person.
James came in with coffee and milk and saw the mess on the ground and Emily's pale face. He guessed that something had happened. After putting the things down on the table, he called the security to drag Emily out.
The news of Emily's dismissal spread like wildfire throughout the Johnson family. After all, she was not just a small employee, but also the secretary of Nicholas, the CEO.
But many people had long been unhappy with Emily's attitude, and they had no objections to this incident, nor did anyone plead for her.
"But do you know why she was suddenly dismissed?" Several front desk girls were happy to hear the news of Emily's dismissal, but they were still full of doubts.
The woman who had been so arrogant in front of them this morning was now being dragged out of Nicholas's office by security guards.
"The CEO's girlfriend came for the first time, and the secretary was fired...I always feel like there's a connection between them." Another girl was pondering, and just as the group was about to imagine a big drama, someone suddenly interrupted them.
"Emily plotted against the CEO's girlfriend, and Mr. Nicholas fired her in anger. That's what I heard anyway. I don't know the specifics, but I overheard a few executives talking about it in the pantry. But...Assistant James should know, if you can run into him, you can ask him." The girl shrugged.
"What Emily did was too audacious. She always portrayed herself as the girlfriend of the CEO in front of us, but now that the CEO's official girlfriend has appeared, she's still so arrogant."
Due to the suddenness of this matter, many people are speculating about the reasons behind it. The whole Johnson family is in turmoil in private, but Nicholas's office remains as quiet as usual.
James collected all the scattered papers on the ground and put them in a file folder to be sent to the personnel department for record-keeping.
"By the way, isn't it too..." Caroline looked at Emily's pale face as she was being taken away and couldn't help but feel a bit soft-hearted. She opened her mouth to say something but didn't continue.
She had once been too soft-hearted, which gave the people of the Collins family an opportunity to take advantage of. Caroline didn't want to repeat the same mistake, and she wasn't a saint either. If someone plotted against her, she wouldn't plead for them.
"What's wrong, honey? Don't overthink it." Nicholas seemed to see through what Caroline was thinking and comforted her.
"It's nothing. Let's continue." Caroline picked up her cup of warm milk and took a sip before flipping through the documents to the page where Nicholas had left off.
"James, Caroline will replace Emily from now on. Please inform the personnel department."
"Me? But there's still so much I don't know..." Caroline pointed at herself in surprise.
"Don't worry, honey. You can learn slowly. Leave the tasks you can't handle to James." Nicholas intentionally wanted Caroline to be his secretary, but he was afraid that she would be overwhelmed by too much work.
"That's right, Madam. If you have anything, just come to me. I can do it!" James stood beside them, echoing Nicholas's words.
"Honey, do you have any job preferences?" Nicholas asked again when he saw Caroline was silent. No matter what, he wanted her to be happy.
"Accounting, I want to learn to account." When Nicholas asked like this, a warm glimmer appeared in his eyes. This was something she had always wanted to do since she was a child, and she was very interested in it for some reason.
"I have some books on this subject in my study. I'll bring them to you when I go back tonight." Nicholas thought for a moment. Accounting or anything else couldn't be too difficult for him.
"What! You mean that woman, Caroline, went to work at Johnson's?" Stella had been persuaded by her mother to stay at home since the last banquet, and now she just heard that Caroline had gone to work at Johnson's.
"You calm down. If you still act impulsively like last time, I can't help you." Avery was strict with Stella for once. It had only been a few days since the last incident, and Avery was worried that Stella would leave a bad impression on Nicholas.
"Then what should I do? Nicholas clearly knows that woman has been to jail, but he still trusts her so much!" Stella gritted her teeth and said. When she thought about it, she intentionally mentioned this incident at the last banquet just to let Nicholas see Caroline's true colors.
"She's just going to work at Johnson's. But you're her sister, and if she's working at Johnson's, doesn't it give you a good reason to go to Nicholas? As long as you appear in front of him every day and let him see your good side." Avery said calmly.
"Visit Caroline? I don't want to visit her!" Stella was surprised and opened her mouth wide. She hadn't even settled the grievances she suffered at Caroline's place last time, how could she willingly go to visit her?
