Chapter 76 Revisiting Old Places

Chapter 76 Revisiting Old Places

The two went upstairs and came to the office Samuel had taken her to before.

Lily pushed open the door, only to find it completely empty. The desks and chairs were still there, but there was no sign anyone had been working there.

"Where is everyone?" Olivia looked around.

"They're gone. I knew something was off."

Just then, a middle-aged man walked over. "Who are you looking for?"

"Hello, could you tell me who rented this office?" Lily quickly asked.

"A guy temporarily rented it for a few days a while back. The lease expired yesterday, and he moved out," the middle-aged man said. He must be the landlord.

Olivia said in surprise, "A few days? Who rents an office for just a few days?"

The landlord smiled. "The guy had money and was willing to pay top dollar. He gave me three months' rent, but he only used it for a week. Of course, I was happy to take that deal."

Lily and Olivia exchanged glances.

Temporarily renting an office for a few days and paying a premium—this was clearly all an act!

"What did the man look like?" Lily pressed.

"Very handsome, obviously wealthy," the landlord recalled.

"Did he leave any contact information?" Lily asked.

"He did, but this..." the landlord hesitated.

Lily immediately pulled out a stack of bills from her bag. "Is this enough?"

The landlord's eyes lit up, and he immediately said with a smile, "Yes, yes! I'll find it for you right away!"

He took out his phone and pulled up a number. "This is it."

Lily quickly wrote down the number and gave the landlord some more money, asking him to notify her immediately if the man came back.

After leaving the building, Olivia said admiringly, "Lily, you're really something."

"Special situations call for special measures." Lily stared at the number on her phone. "I'm calling right now."

She dialed the number.

The phone rang for a long time, but no one answered.

Meanwhile, on the 88th floor of the Glory Hotel.

Willie's backup phone suddenly rang.

He glanced at the caller ID—it was an unknown number.

Just as he was about to answer, he suddenly remembered something and froze.

Wait... he had only given this number to one person—the landlord he'd rented the temporary office from.

But why would the landlord give his number to a stranger?

Unless...

Cold sweat broke out on Willie's forehead.

Could Lily have found something out?

He quickly stood up and walked briskly to David's office door, knocking.

"Come in."

Willie pushed the door open to see David reviewing documents, his expression not great—clearly he hadn't rested well.

"What is it?" David looked up.

"An unknown number just called me. I suspect it's... Mrs. Jones," Willie said.

"What?" David's expression changed instantly. "How would Lily have your number?"

Willie smiled bitterly. "She probably got it from the landlord. Our temporary office setup had too many holes—there's no way it could fool someone as smart as Mrs. Jones. I'm guessing Mrs. Jones is already suspicious."

David's expression became somewhat intrigued. So Lily was starting to investigate his identity?

"Mr. Jones, what should we do?"

David thought for a moment. "If she calls again, answer, but change your voice."

Willie nodded. He understood—this meant denying everything.

Sure enough, before long, the phone rang again.

Willie glanced at David, and after getting the signal, answered the call.

"Hello?"

"Hello, I'm looking for Mr. Jones." Lily's voice came through the phone.

Willie's heart tightened, and he quickly said, "You've got the wrong number. I don't know any Mr. Jones."

"Sorry, then let me speak with your boss."

"I don't have a boss."

"Then why did you rent that office? Do independent contractors need offices?"

Willie played dumb. "I just took on a temporary job, helping someone set up a space. As for who it was for, I have no idea."

Lily clearly didn't believe him. "Then who was your client? Can I contact them?"

Willie started making things up. "My client was a temp agency, called... something or other. I can't remember exactly. Anyway, I just took the job online, they transferred the money, I did the work—very simple."

"Which website?" Lily pressed.

"A temp work website. I forget what it's called exactly. I already deleted it from my phone." Willie couldn't keep the story going. "Miss, what exactly are you trying to ask? I really don't know anything."

"You must at least know who that office was for, right?"

"No idea. I was just in charge of setting it up. Who used it wasn't my business. And the way you're asking, I don't even know who you are. What if you're trying to steal my clients? I can't just give out information about my business partners."

Lily didn't know how to continue questioning after he said that. She said, somewhat deflated, "Sorry to bother you."

"No problem." Willie immediately hung up after speaking.

He breathed a sigh of relief and wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Mr. Jones, I managed to handle it."

David nodded. "Give this SIM card to an employee Mrs. Jones hasn't met. Have him go anywhere except the Jones Group."

"Why?"

"Don't worry about it, just do it."

"Yes."

Lily hung up the phone and looked at Olivia. "How did it go?"

Olivia made an OK gesture. "Don't worry, I've already tracked the target location."

"Then check quickly—where is he!" Lily anxiously leaned over.

Olivia scrolled through her phone screen, her brow gradually furrowing. "The signal shows... Glory Hotel?"

Lily paused. "Not the Jones Group?"

Olivia confirmed, "It's Glory Hotel."

Lily's heart sank.

If the person who answered the phone were at the Jones Group, that would prove he was connected to David, which, in turn, would indirectly prove that Samuel was David.

But now, the person was at the Glory Hotel.

"It doesn't necessarily mean there's no connection. Maybe David has business at the Glory Hotel today? Let's go check it out, and we'll know, right?"

Lily nodded. "Let's go. We'll head there right now!"

The two immediately drove to the Glory Hotel.

In the car, Olivia said while driving, "Lily, calm down. Even if he's not at the Jones Group, it doesn't mean he's not connected to David. Maybe he's David's personal assistant and is with David today for business meetings."

"I know. That's why we need to confirm."

Twenty minutes later, they arrived at the Glory Hotel.

This was the most luxurious hotel in Harmony City. The first-floor lobby was magnificent, with well-dressed business people and wealthy elite coming and going.

"Where does the signal show?" Lily asked.

Olivia looked at her phone. "Second floor. The signal is moving, seems to be coming down to the first floor."

They immediately became alert, their eyes scanning the lobby.

There were too many people.

There were at least twenty or thirty men in suits—some checking in, some talking business in the coffee shop, some waiting for people...
