Chapter 75 Seeds of Doubt
Chapter 75 Seeds of Doubt
Lily's eyes snapped open, and her heart started pounding violently.
This was the scent on David!
She had thought the scent was quite special and unusual at the time, which left a particularly strong impression on her.
But now, why was this bottle of perfume in her and Samuel's bathroom?
And it was half used?
Lily's hands began to tremble slightly.
She smelled it carefully again to make sure she hadn't remembered wrong.
It was this scent, exactly the same!
This perfume was clearly not a common brand on the market. There were no markings on the bottle—it must be some kind of custom or limited edition.
So, Samuel and David, were they using the same perfume?
Or could it be...
A bold theory suddenly flashed through Lily's mind.
Her heartbeat grew faster and faster, almost bursting out of her chest.
No, that's impossible...
But if it wasn't like this, how could she explain so many coincidences?
The design drafts mysteriously appeared in David's email.
Samuel always wore a mask, never letting her see his real face.
Samuel knew everything about her work, yet never said what he did.
And this bottle of perfume.
All the clues pointed toward a direction she didn't dare believe.
Lily leaned against the wall, feeling her whole body trembling.
Could it be... Samuel was David?
Could the Jones Group president, David, who stood up for her at the awards ceremony, be her husband?
But how was that possible?
Wasn't Samuel friends with Andrew from the underworld? How could he be the president of the Jones Group?
If he really was David, why hide his identity? Why wear a mask?
Lily's mind was in complete chaos.
She tried to calm herself down and carefully recalled every detail of her time with Samuel.
He was always very busy, often working late into the night.
He knew a lot about business, and his words and actions carried a natural dominance and desire for control.
When he helped her handle the Martin family matters, he did so in a strategic and commanding manner.
And his temperament, that innate nobility and authority.
If he were really just an ordinary person, how could he have such presence?
The more Lily thought about it, the more possible this theory seemed.
But... she still didn't dare believe it.
If Samuel really was David, why would he lie to her?
Why hide his identity?
Why wear a mask?
Why all of this?
Lily hugged the perfume bottle and slowly slid down to sit on the floor.
An indescribable emotion welled up in her heart.
There was shock, confusion, bewilderment, and even a trace of... disgust?
If Samuel really was David, then she was pregnant with her enemy's child. Did this child really need to be born...
But David had genuinely helped her. Did she really still hate David now?
Lily barely slept all night.
She tossed and turned, her mind full of that terrifying theory.
As soon as dawn broke, she got out of bed, quickly washed up, and rushed out without even eating breakfast.
David heard the commotion from his study. He opened the door, wanting to call out to her, but only saw her hurried departing figure.
"Lily?" he called out.
Lily's steps paused for a moment, but she didn't turn around and quickly went downstairs.
David frowned. Was she still angry?
Lily drove all the way to the hotel where Olivia was staying.
She rang the doorbell several times before Olivia's drowsy voice came from inside: "Who is it... so early..."
"It's me! Open the door quickly!" Lily said urgently.
The door opened, and Olivia stood there with messy hair and dark circles under her eyes, looking at her resentfully: "Lily, do you know what time it is? It's only seven o'clock! Seven! I was hungover yesterday. Are you trying to kill me?"
"I have something important to tell you!" Lily pulled her into the room.
"What is it that's so urgent?" Olivia yawned as she was dragged to sit on the bed.
Lily took a deep breath and looked at her seriously: "Olivia, I suspect Samuel is David."
"What?" Olivia was stunned for a moment, then burst out laughing, "Lily, are you still asleep?"
"I'm serious! Listen to me. Last night I found a bottle of perfume in the bathroom, and it smells exactly like David! And there are many other coincidences..."
She told Olivia all the suspicious points she had thought of last night.
Olivia became more and more alert as she listened, and was finally completely stunned: "Are you serious?"
"Absolutely! That's why I came to find you today—I want us to investigate together."
Olivia was silent for a moment, then composed herself and said: "Investigation is fine, but before that, I have a question for you."
"Go ahead."
"Did you two kiss in front of me last night?"
"You..." Lily's face instantly turned bright red.
"No need to answer, I know the answer. You two are really something. Look at you, just abandoning me when I was drunk out of my mind, going off with your husband, and only now remembering me? Forgetting friends when you have a husband."
"What do you mean by 'going off'! I... I had Willie take care of you last night!"
Olivia rolled her eyes. "I didn't see any Willie. All I know is that when I woke up, the room was empty except for a note that said [Press the service bell if needed.] Don't you think that's pretty inconsiderate?"
Lily felt a bit guilty. "Last night, Samuel forced me to go back with him..."
"Forced you to go back? And then what? What happened between you two? Tell me honestly!"
Lily's face turned even redder. "Nothing... nothing happened, we just had a fight."
Olivia looked her up and down. "If you just had a fight, why are you blushing?"
Lily pushed her in embarrassment. "Olivia, now's not the time for this! The point is, Samuel might be David!"
"Okay, okay, I'll stop teasing you." Olivia finally got serious. "The coincidences you mentioned are indeed suspicious. But this is too crazy, right? How could Samuel be David? One is friends with an underworld boss, the other is the president of Harmony City's biggest corporation. They're from completely different worlds."
"That's why we need to find evidence. Olivia, will you help me?"
Olivia looked at her determined eyes and sighed: "Fine, who told you you're my best friend. But you have to buy me breakfast—I'm starving."
"Let's go!"
After a quick breakfast, Lily drove Olivia to the office building that Samuel had taken her to a few days ago.
The car stopped downstairs, and Lily pointed up: "This is it. Samuel said this was his office that day."
Olivia frowned. "I expected it to be run-down, but not this run-down."
