Chapter 312 I Don't Want My Girlfriend to Misunderstand
Chapter 312 I Don't Want My Girlfriend to Misunderstand
Lily's comment showed quite a bit of a lack of respect for Olivia.
The rich kid next to them immediately spoke up, "What's wrong with you? Ms. Harper is trying to save face for you, and you dare to refuse?"
"You think everyone's like you, trying to suck up to Olivia?"
The rich kid instantly lost it, "Damn it, you really think sleeping with Mr. Gonzalez a few times means you can marry him? Ms. Harper is the one who's engaged to Mr. Gonzalez. You're nothing but a homewrecker!"
"Shut up!" Dennis threw a punch, hard and fierce.
His eyes were cold, "Let me say this one more time officially - the Harper family and I have never had any engagement. Next time anyone spreads this nonsense, don't blame me for what happens."
The private room instantly fell silent.
Olivia could barely hold her glass steady. She had thought Dennis would save her face - after all, they grew up together.
But she never expected Dennis would publicly deny the engagement like this. Wouldn't she become a laughingstock in their circle?
Why would he do this?
Olivia looked at Dennis with reddened eyes, "Dennis."
Dennis showed no expression, "I told you long ago to set the record straight, so my girlfriend wouldn't get the wrong impression."
Lily stood beside him, hearing his low, cold voice.
She looked up and saw Olivia's teary eyes - completely different from her attitude at the coffee shop that day, acting like the legitimate girlfriend dealing with a mistress.
When it comes to acting, Olivia was definitely better at it.
Olivia noticed Lily's gaze and said somewhat awkwardly, "Are you satisfied now?"
"How ridiculous. You and Dennis never had an engagement. I didn't spread this rumor, and I didn't clear it up either. What does it have to do with me?"
"But if you hadn't shown up, Dennis and I would have been fine."
Maybe the rumored engagement could have become reality.
But now that Lily had appeared, all of Olivia's hopes and fantasies were shattered.
Lily didn't want to be blamed for nothing. "Dennis doesn't like you - what does that have to do with me? You should question him, not me. Are you crazy?"
The rich kid immediately rushed over, "How dare you talk like that?"
Dennis directly blocked him, his eyes warning, "What she said is right. Even without her, I would never get engaged to Olivia."
Olivia's glass fell straight to the floor, her usually refined and elegant expression now a mess.
Lily noticed the people in the private room - their expressions were quite something.
They seemed extremely shocked and incredulous.
But all she knew was that after hearing those words, her heartbeat suddenly quickened a lot.
Dennis stood in front of her, blocking all the curious gazes directed at them.
Lily lowered her eyelids slightly. She couldn't hear anyone else talkinganymore, her mind was filled only with what he had just said.
Olivia's voice choked up, "Dennis~."
Dennis's gaze was cold and heavy. "Is there anything else?"
"Just because of Lily, now you want to cut ties with me?" Olivia had always had a smooth life. She couldn't handle this kind of blow.
"When my grandmother was sick and hospitalized a while ago, I accidentally lost my phone, and you helped me get it back. But you shouldn't have answered that call for me, causing my girlfriend to misunderstand and get into a fight with me." Dennis had been focused on Lily this whole time and hadn't bothered to confront Olivia about this.
Since they ran into each other today, he might as well clear everything up.
Lily looked up in surprise. She noticed the gossipy stares around them and really didn't want to be watched like this.
She said quietly, "That's enough, there are so many people here."
Olivia broke down and said loudly, "Lily, I don't need your pity!"
Lily looked over and found Olivia already in tears, nothing like her proud attitude at the coffee shop that day.
She pressed her lips together, "If you knew being exposed would be so embarrassing, why did you lie in the first place?"
"What did I lie about? Ask everyone here - are you even worthy of Dennis?"
Olivia had lost her usual composure, her voice becoming quite shrill.
Dennis's expression tightened, "Olivia, I was the one who pursued her."
At that moment, Olivia was stunned.
Did he say he pursued Lily?
But why did Lily deserve that?
Lily saw Olivia's disheveled state and suddenly remembered the scene at the coffee shop that day. Maybe she had looked just like Olivia then.
Both were reduced to this state because of the same man.
She stood up to leave. With things having gotten this messy, there was no point in discussing work.
Dennis immediately noticed her movement and blocked her.
Lily's face was tight. "What are you doing?"
"There's broken glass on the floor."
Dennis directly picked Lily up, turned in a circle, and put her down. His lips pressed thin, "About the project, come to the office for a meeting tomorrow if you're free."
"Got it."
Lily glanced at the broken glass on the floor, her face inexplicably flushing. She turned and hurried out of the private room.
Olivia watched this scene, her voice hoarse, "Dennis, do you have to humiliate me in front of all these people?"
"I remember telling you long ago to clear up the engagement rumor yourself. If it were someone else, do you think they'd still be standing here talking to me?"
Dennis's expression was serious, leaving no room for negotiation.
Olivia's mouth opened slightly, but in the end, she couldn't say a word. Watching Dennis's departing back, she felt like her whole world was collapsing.
Outside, Lily returned to the private room where her teammates were dining. Everyone was almost done eating.
When she went to pay the bill, the server told her, "Someone already paid."
Lily didn't need to think to know who had paid.
She left the private room with everyone and went downstairs, just in time to see Dennis standing at the lobby entrance, his back tall and straight.
He turned to look over, his gaze landing on her.
A classmate beside Lily whispered, "Isn't that Lily's boyfriend? The one who waited all night at the school gate last time."
"He's so handsome. I only saw photos before, but he's way more handsome in person."
Lily's ears felt hot. She turned back to look at her teammates, "I called cars, everyone head back to school together."
She walked toward the entrance with everyone. When passing by Dennis, her heartbeat inexplicably lost its rhythm.
Lily pretended not to see Dennis, but she could feel his eyes following her the whole time.
At the entrance, everyone paired up to get in cars.
Walter came to Lily's side, "Let's go, get in the car."
Lily nodded and sat in the back of the taxi with Zoey. When Walter sat in the passenger seat, he turned his head to glance at Dennis standing at the entrance.
But Dennis kept watching Lily, not even giving him a glance, completely ignoring him.
Walter felt a bit uncomfortable and deliberately turned back to talk to Lily.
Lily answered absentmindedly, but the moment the car was leaving, she couldn't help looking out the window.
She saw Dennis looking down at his phone, and from the corner of her eye, she caught Olivia chasing after him from behind, eyes swollen and red.
Lily hurriedly looked away, anxiously pulling out her phone to distract herself.
She received a message from Dennis.
Seeing those words, her heart was in turmoil.
