Chapter 313: Can True Feelings Be Exchanged for True Feelings?
Chapter 313: Can True Feelings Be Exchanged for True Feelings?
Lily's face felt hot.
He sent a message: [I don't agree to break up. I'll keep waiting.]
Lily exited the chat window and turned her head to look out the car window. Her heart had finally calmed down, but now it was stirred up again.
She had thought Dennis had hidden his identity because he wasn't sincere about her.
But just now, in front of so many people, he had clarified the engagement matter with Olivia.
Lily saw Olivia burst into tears right on the spot.
Zoey spoke up at this moment, "Lily, what's going on between you and your boyfriend—no, I mean your ex-boyfriend?"
"That's just how it is for now."
"But I think he still has feelings for you. You didn't notice how he was looking at you just now—like an abandoned puppy waiting for you to turn around and pet him."
Zoey thought if it were her, being looked at by such a handsome boyfriend, she wouldn't be able to stay angry at all.
Lily's face grew even warmer. "Don't talk nonsense. Actually, I haven't figured out what to do yet."
Dennis had explained to both her and Celeste that there was no engagement to the Harper family at all—it was just a rumor.
She had been played by Olivia back then.
But she was still really angry about Dennis hiding his identity. It felt like he didn't trust her.
Zoey linked arms with Lily. "Then just give him the cold shoulder for a while. Let him taste what it feels like to suffer. Teach him a lesson."
"You're right. Before, I was always the one chasing after him."
This time Lily wanted him to take the initiative.
"Besides, there are plenty of good guys in this world. Lots of people have already been asking if you're single. As soon as I spread the word, many guys will come after you. You don't need to care about just one man."
Lily's gloomy mood improved a lot. "You have a point."
She wasn't sure about her feelings with Dennis, but after her rebirth, she had many things to do. She couldn't let her life revolve around one man.
Walter, in the passenger seat, glanced in the rearview mirror after hearing Lily's words. A plan formed in his eyes.
After the car Lily was in left, Dennis finally looked away.
Olivia stubbornly spoke up. "Did you even hear what I just said to you?"
Dennis glanced at his phone. Sure enough, Lily still hadn't replied.
He felt inexplicably irritated. He turned to look at Olivia. "I've already given you enough dignity. Otherwise, just for taking my phone and answering Lily's call, the Harper family would be in trouble."
"But I've known you longer than she has! Why? What does Lily have that I don't?"
In this moment, Olivia lost all reason.
Dennis's eyes were cold. "Because Lily is the person I like. Who could compare to the woman I love?"
Because he liked her, no one could compare to Lily.
The reason was that simple.
After Dennis finished speaking, he bent down, got into his car, and left. Olivia squatted on the ground and cried out loud. She really didn't understand wwhy she was inferior to Lily in every way!
She was Empire City's most famous socialite. In terms of looks, status, and ability, she was superior than Lily in every way!
Lily returned to her dorm and lay on her bed, looking at the messages Dennis had sent her.
These past few days, Dennis had been sending her messages, but she hadn't replied to a single one.
This was so annoying.
The next day, when Lily went to the team, she saw the leader Rowan Hayden coming over. She walked over expressionlessly. "What is it?"
"Yesterday, your attitude toward the Harper family people was a bit too aggressive. After all, the Harper family has been a sponsor for so many years."
"Didn't you see them getting handsy?"
Rowan paused. "But it's always been like this before. Nothing really happens. After all, so many people are watching—nothing will happen."
Lily said coldly, "I don't care how it was before. Now I'm the captain, and I won't allow my team members to attend these sleazy sponsor dinners!"
"Lily, you still need to follow orders. You can't just do things your way!"
"The previous captain Theron was very obedient, helping the Harper family launder money. You wouldn't happen to be involved too, would you?"
After Lily said this, the other person's expression changed instantly. "What nonsense are you talking about? How could I be involved? That was just Theron's personal behavior."
Lily's gaze was calm but somewhat intimidating as she said nothing.
Finally, Rowan stood up. "But you can't just offend the Harper family like this. How will we work together in the future?"
"I have dirt on the Harper family. They won't dare refuse to cooperate. I guarantee that even if they withdraw their funding, it won't affect the team."
Since Lily put it that way, Rowan could only leave.
After Lily dealt with this matter, she came out of the office.
Zoey immediately asked, "Did Rowan scold you? Everyone could see what happened last night. Poppy even mentioned there were worse incidents before."
Lily glanced at everyone present. "I don't care how things were before, but while I'm captain, I absolutely won't make you attend dinners and drink with sponsors."
Zoey clapped directly. "That's great!"
"There's one more thing to announce. Starting today, Walter is the vice-captain. When I'm not at the base, he'll lead everyone in training."
After this competition, Lily discovered that Walter's gaming skills were the strongest on the team, aside from herself.
Walter smiled. "Let's all work hard together and win next year's national championship!"
When Lily heard this, she instantly felt fired up too.
Yes, this time she would win the championship on her own and never let someone else take credit for her work again.
After training for a while, Lily checked the time, grabbed her bag, and prepared to leave.
Walter caught up with her. "You don't have class this afternoon, right? Planning to go to the gym?"
"No, I need to go out for something."
Lily planned to go to Maple Leaf Corporation for a meeting. The project had new developments, and she really needed to check on it.
Walter paused. "Let's go to the gym together when you have time."
"Sure, we'll make plans later."
After Lily said this, she left. She didn't want to think anymore about whether Walter was that person from before.
Whether he was or wasn't, the person she liked now was Dennis.
That was beyond doubt.
When Lily reached the school gate, she happened to see Emily and David getting out of a car.
Emily took the initiative to speak. "What a coincidence."
Lily could see Emily's expression wasn't good—clearly something had happened.
She didn't ask much and replied with a smile, "It really is."
"I'll head back to the dorm first."
After Emily said this, she turned and left.
David was holding a box of pastries. "Take this back to your dorm to eat."
Emily coldly refused. "I'm on a diet lately. I don't want to eat sweets."
David could only stand there, holding the pastry box, feeling very awkward.
Lily saw this scene, and her eyes held a hint of mockery.
She watched David walk toward her and raised an eyebrow. "What is it?"
David said, "Take this pastry and eat it. I don't like sweets."
Lily sneered. "Do you think I'm a garbage disposal?"
"This is a limited edition cake from a famous brand. Most people can't even buy it, and it hasn't been touched. Didn't you use to ask me to buy this pastry and mail it back to you?"
David took out the small cake to show Lily.
Lily laughed mockingly, took the small cake, and slapped it straight onto David's face.
