Chapter 163

Chapter 163
Wendi

Wendi was absolutely exhausted when a light knock interrupted her slumber. It took her a moment to realize it was already Sunday morning. She picked up her phone and sat up in bed abruptly. She had already over slept and was going to be late for family brunch.

She knew it was because it had been well after dawn, when Wendi, Leo and Alex finally dropped into bed. The Twins, Sam and Cole had insisted that Wendi, Charlotte and Kami accompany them to the twenty-four-hour tattoo parlor. She was surprised to find out that Alex and Leo had decided to have their mate mark tattooed onto their collarbone since her human bite didn't show.

As she watched them sleep she leaned over and kissed the now healed black outline of Blackrock Mountain, with a golden wolf on each side howling at a gold full moon directly above it, on each other their clavicles. As they began to stir, she lifted each of their ring fingers to her lips and lightly kissed the silver and black tattooed wedding bands they each now wore.

“Good morning” She said as they each kissed her cheek and began to stretch. “I'm sorry to have to kill the morning mood, but we're already running late.” She told them quickly. She knew that Leo was itching to start something they didn’t have time to finish, after being so deep in the dog house the night before.

Almost as if on cue, someone knocked on the door more forcefully this time. “Get up! Hiding in bed will not get you out of officially meeting my new boyfriend.” Leah yelled through the door.
Alex winked at Leo and smirked. “I forgot all about meeting Alpha Red today. I suddenly feel the need to make a wolf squirm.”

“Hey Wendi, can you please make my brothers behave. Jace is important to me.” Leah pleaded through the closed door.

She gave each of the Twins a stern look as she rushed to the shower. “You heard your sister, please be nice. Trust me when I tell you it's hard meeting your future in-laws for the first time.”
Luckily for Leah, Alex and Leo seemed to be in a pretty good mood as they came down the steps. They proceeded to the family dining room just as Lisa and Sansa began filling the tables with huge platters of food.

Wendi walked into the room and inhaled the delicious smell of breakfast. “Leo, I don't know what we pay Lisa and her team, but I know it's not enough. I think she needs a raise.”

Lisa laughed as she left the room. “Don't worry Luna, domestic servants are the best paid wolves on the entire reservation.”

Alex laughed, “I've got a whale coming in for you on Monday, Wendi, if you can hook him like you did the last guy. We will definitely be able to afford a raise.”

“Be sure to leave my highlighters and post it’s on the desk, and you've got yourself a deal.” She said as she began giving the family hugs.

After Wendi hugged Leah, Alpha Red took Leah’s hand. “I would like to formally introduce my future mate, Alpha Jace Red.” The Twins’ sister announced with pride.

“So it's official, you're sure of the mate bond?” Adam asked. It was the first time that Wendi had even noticed he was sitting in his normal seat at the end of the table. He wasn't scowling but he didn't look happy.

Jace cleared his throat. “True mate or not, Leah will become my Luna on her eighteenth birthday. I believe she is my fated one, but even if she isn't. I am head over heels crazy in love with this girl. I'm considering having my phone glued to my face just so I can talk to her all day long.”

Wendi hugged Leah again and each of the Twins shook Jace's hand. “Congratulations,” Wendi told her.

Lady Sansa motioned for everyone to have a seat and they began to pass platters around. “I'm just thrilled that Leah will be close enough to home that she can still come back for Sunday brunch,” Her mother said as she piled eggs and bacon onto her plate.

Adam about half smiled. “I suppose she could definitely do worse than the Alpha of Redheart. But you should know son, if you hurt her. They'll never find your body.”

Wendi couldn't help it, She laughed. She was the only person at the table that laughed, which made it that much more awkward. She didn't laugh because she thought it was a joke, she laughed because she knew it was true.

“I like you Alpha Red, but I agree with Sir Adam, if you do something to hurt my sister, I'll help him hide the body.” Wendi said.

To everyone's surprise, Adam started to laugh. He looked over at her and smirked. “Spoken like a true Luna.” Adam gave her a small nod and went back to chewing on a piece of sausage.
She saw Alex wink at her and for the first time, the entire table started to relax.

“Leah was telling me that the Twins own a dance club in the city, I'm curious as to how that came about.” Alpha Red said curiously.

“Believe it or not, we actually open the club looking for our fated mate.” Leo explained.

“I didn't know that,” Wendi said. “Although I suppose it was an effective strategy.”

“My father helped us travel extensively, hoping that Leo and I would find our fated mates. After meeting about every she-wolf on the planet, Leo and I decided to open the club. We were hoping that maybe she would wander in. And eventually she did.” He said as he pointed to Wendi. “And it turns out, the club business is quite lucrative.”

“So you didn't know that your mate was human, or that you would share her.” Jace said. “Sorry if I'm being to personal, I merely curious. I've never met a human mate before.”

“I understand your curiosity. But you should know that Blackrock has three human mates.” Wendi chirped.

“Really? I didn't know it was that common.” He tapped his chin for a minute and looked at Leah. “Do you think that's why so many of our wolves are unmated? Is it because they have human mates out there waiting for them?”

“I think maybe it’s worth investigating.” Leah said.

“Wendi has found some really interesting things about human mates in her Luna book. It might be the answer to solving the drop in Redhearts birth rate.”

“I'm certainly willing to try.” Jace said. “Also I'm very interested in her Tradesmen program. I would love some pointers on how to help implement a similar ranking system among our wolves.”

“I'd love to sit down and talk with you about it. I'll have David call you and set up an appointment for next week.” Wendi said with a genuine smile. She glanced up to look at Adam just to see how he was handling the conversation. That's her surprise, he was just looking at her in utter amazement.
