Chapter162
Chapter162
Alex
“How bad is it man?” Alex asked on the verge of panic as Matt told him what has happened with Wendi, Leo and the stupid she-wolves.
“She's pretty shaken up, but I think she'll be all right. Sam is with her now.” Matt told him. He clapped Alex on the shoulder.
“If she were a she-wolf, I think you and Leo would be picking gravel out of your teeth. Luckily for you, it's Wendi. Which means not only will she let you off the hook, but she'll probably try to figure out a way to blame herself.” Matt said.
“I don't know how to fix this. I don't know how to help her understand she has nothing to worry about. We are both head over heels in love with her. Leo or I would never even look at another woman, wolf or otherwise.” Alex said in frustration.
“I know that. I think even she knows that. Even if the bond would let you, you guys just aren't cheats. But you've got to look at this from her point of view. Three times now she's been challenged by some other woman. From her perspective, she is human, and that means everything is different.” Matt said shaking his head and flopping down onto the leather couch.
“What would you have done, if you had found some other man with his hands on her? How would you be feeling if you had walked up on what she saw tonight with Leo, not once, but twice? Or what would you have done if some man showed up at your party and announced that he was engaged to Wendi?” Matt said as he tried to help Alex understand how colossally screwed he was, as if Alex didn't already know that.
“How do I show her what’s on the inside of me? It's not like I can just pull open my chest or pop out my brain.” Alex paced back in forth in front of the wall looking down into the bar.
He could see her sitting there holding her head up like everything was fine, but he couldn't miss the small slump of her shoulders. They way her smile looked forced in her reflection from the glass mirror above the bar.
Matt just shrugged and rolled his eyes on him. “Look I'm just going to say it, if I had a woman like Wendi, I would tattoo her damn name on my forehead if it meant me never having to see her hurt like that. I'm not going to sugarcoat it, what I saw was absolutely brutal. It would break me to see the woman I love being ripped up like that. I would do anything in my power to make her feel safe.”
“What do you mean?” Alex said. “What did they say to her?”
“That she-slut pretty much eviscerated Wendi. She called her out, saying she was too weak to be Luna. She insinuated that you and Leo were using Wendi and that's why she hadn’t been able to mark you. She even made it sound like she and Leo were an item behind Wendi’s back… I mean Wendi was a real champ, but it was absolutely heartbreaking.” From his tone, Alex could tell that Matt was angry about what he had heard.
Alex felt like he been punched in the stomach. No wonder she was so upset. All he wanted to do was run to the bar and throw his arms around her. But he knew right now she need time to cool off. He could feel the hurt and hostility through the bond and he could see her stiff posture as she sat next to Sam at the bar below him.
“To make matters worse, that one that acted drunk, Tara, I think that was her name, pointed out that she had no reason not to hit on Leo. Especially considering he didn't have a mate mark or even a wedding ring. Almost like Wendi should get used to the idea and other women throwing herself at him, or you.”
He thought a minute. “You know that tattoo idea isn't such a bad one.” He said as he considered.
Matt chuckled and raised an eyebrow at him. “I don't know how appreciative she's really going to be if you show up with a huge tattoo on your face. I think she likes your pretty boy looks.”
Alex snorted and rolled his eyes. He walked over and slapped his friend playfully in the back of the head. “I didn't mean on my face!” Alex chuckled.
“I actually was thinking of getting my mating mark tattooed. Technically she did mark me, it just doesn't show.” He opened his collar and ran his finger over the faint outline of Wendi’s teeth impression. “That’s something I can fix.”
“Hey, do me a favor and go discreetly grab photos of Wendi, Charlotte and Kami’s mating marks then send their mates up to see me.” Alex ordered Matt.
“What do we do about our staffing problems?” Matt asked.
Alex shrugged, “I don't care if you shut the place down for the night. What my mate needs takes precedence.”
Matt's eyes almost bulged out of his head. When he realized Alex was being serious he said, “Give me 45 minutes so I can get some trainees in here, then you guys can go do whatever.”
Alex nodded his head and picked up his phone. He quickly dialed Lisa's number and ask her to slip into his and Leo's office to get snapshots of their wedding rings. He didn't explain why he needed them, and she didn't ask.
As Matt was about to walk out the door, Alex said, “While you're at it, go fish Leo out of the bathroom and send him up. Tell him I might just be able to save his life.”
Alex was already on his phone googling twenty four-hour tattoo parlors when Leo, Sam and Cole arrived in his office. He held up a finger and asked the guys to wait as he called the number listed under that ad with the most stars. He quickly made four appointments for about an hour later before he hung up the phone.
Cole immediately cocked his head to the side. “You're not seriously going to suggest we get matching tattoos like we are the cast of some fantasy movie are you?”
Sam snorted and turned to look Cole. “What the hell, man?”
“I miss Kami, she would have totally got that.” Cole said as he looked out the window to where Kami was helping to wait tables with Charlotte.
Alex shook his head and smiled for the first time since Matt had entered his office earlier. “Actually I just set us up so we can go get our mate marks inked in so they will be visible.”
