Chapter 164 Seeing the Human Trafficker
Chapter 164 Seeing the Human Trafficker
Carol was praying in her heart that Isaac wouldn't get caught. If Isaac got arrested, she would definitely be implicated.
Little did she know, the police would soon come knocking on her door. Carol's good days were numbered.
Ella rested at home for two days, then went to the hospital to change her dressing. The doctor checked the wound on the back of her head - it was almost healed.
After leaving the hospital, Ella said to Sarah beside her.
"Thank you, Sarah, for taking the trouble to come with me again to change the dressing."
"Why are you being so polite with me? I wouldn't feel comfortable letting you come alone. By the way, has anything unusual happened these past few days? You need to be careful."
"I haven't gone out these past few days. This is the first time I've come out with you to the hospital to change the dressing."
"That's good! That Isaac still hasn't been caught. They say he ran off to another city, but what if he comes back someday?" Sarah said with lingering fear.
"I think he'll definitely lay low for a while. He couldn't possibly come looking for me again."
"I hope so. Let's go, I'll take you home!"
Sarah was about to walk toward her car when Ella stopped her.
"Sarah, wait a moment. I'm going to call Jason. I want to ask about the situation on his end. I want to visit the prison."
"Okay, call and ask. If it's possible, I'll take you there."
Ella nodded, took out her phone, and called Jason.
He answered quickly, and Jason's familiar voice came through.
"Ella, what's up?"
"Jason, Sarah already came with me to change my dressing. I wanted to ask if you've contacted that police officer for me?"
"I've already contacted him. I was planning to tell you tonight when I came to see you."
"That's great! Can you give me the information? I want to go there with Sarah right now." Ella was getting impatient.
"How about this - let me contact them, and if it's convenient on their end, I'll go with you."
"Okay, thanks, Jason!"
Jason ended the call. Ella held her phone, waiting patiently, and said to Sarah.
"Let's go wait in the car. Jason will get back to us soon."
Sarah nodded, took Ella's arm, and the two went to the parking lot and got in the car.
As soon as Ella got in the car, her phone rang. After answering, Jason said happily to Ella.
"Ella, I've made contact, and they gave me the address. We can go right now. I'll send you the location."
"That's wonderful, Jason. See you soon."
As soon as Ella ended the call, her phone received the location Jason had shared.
Ella told Sarah the address, and Sarah drove Ella to the destination.
Throughout the journey, Ella gripped her phone tightly, feeling both nervous and expectant.
She hoped to uncover the truth from years ago and find those two damn human traffickers.
Seeing Ella's silence, Sarah smiled and comforted her.
"Ella, you have to believe that justice will prevail. These bad people will eventually pay the price."
"My friend also said these two criminals are very likely the people you're looking for."
"But I still want to see them in person and ask them what really happened back then."
"We'll find out!"
Sarah's car and Jason's car arrived at the destination almost one after the other.
Jason got out of his car and walked straight over.
"Let's go, Ella. I'll take you."
They walked together into the imposing office building. As soon as they entered, a uniformed person walked toward them.
"Mr. Carter?"
"Yes, are you Officer Johnson?" Jason extended his hand and shook hands politely.
"You got here quickly. Please follow me. I've already pulled out the files from back then."
The officer, Henry Johnson, made a welcoming gesture.
They followed Henry into an office. Henry picked up some documents from the desk.
"These are files on that criminal gang that trafficked women and children back then. These people have all been convicted and sentenced. They're all currently serving their sentences."
Ella glanced at the documents and pointed to two people.
"Officer Johnson, could you take me to see these two people? I want to confirm it personally. I'm very likely one of the victims from back then."
Henry looked at Ella and asked her some questions.
"Indeed, what you're saying matches some of what the suspects stated back then. Since you say there's more to this case, let me request permission first."
"Thank you, Officer Johnson!" Ella said gratefully.
Henry nodded at her, picked up his phone, and made a call.
He explained the situation to the other end, then called the prison to inquire.
"Let's go. I've got approval. I'll take you there now."
Ella felt inexplicably excited, and her eyes were full of gratitude.
"Thank you so much!"
"Don't mention it, this is all part of our job. Let's go."
Henry led them out the door. They each got in their cars and headed to the prison outside the city.
After about half an hour's drive, Henry's car stopped. Ella and the others got out of their cars one after another.
Henry looked at them and said.
"It's better if just Ms. Brooks comes in with me. You two wait outside - too many people isn't convenient."
"Alright, Ella, we'll wait for you outside. You go in with Officer Johnson." Jason nodded.
Ella followed Henry smoothly inside. When they reached a visiting room, someone came to receive them.
"Please wait a moment. The prisoners will be brought over shortly."
Since there was one male and one female, the two suspects were held in separate areas.
The male prisoner was brought in first. Ella took one look at him, and her heart trembled.
Although so many years had passed and the person had aged considerably, his hair was almost completely shaved off.
But those eyes and eyebrows - Ella recognized them at once.
Henry noticed Ella's tense expression and asked in a low voice.
"Is it him?"
Ella nodded slightly, her tone certain.
"It's him, absolutely no mistake."
"Okay, I understand."
Henry walked over and sat across from the man.
Ella followed and sat beside Henry. Henry nodded at Ella. Understanding his meaning, Ella began to ask.
"Do you still recognize me? Do you remember? Eighteen years ago, you trafficked a ten-year-old girl."
The man looked at Ella, frowning deeply, his eyes full of confusion.
"That was so many years ago, I can't remember at all."
At this point, Henry took out a previous statement.
