Chapter 165 Crime Must Be Punished
Chapter 165 Crime Must Be Punished
"See for yourself. This is the case, and it was your accomplice who told us."
The man glanced at the document, then looked Ella up and down. Ella could see the confusion in his eyes.
"I'm the girl you trafficked back then. I escaped later. Do you remember? There was also a woman with you at the time."
At Ella's reminder, the man's eyes widened instantly, staring at Ella in disbelief.
"You're that girl who escaped all those years ago?"
"That's right, it's me. I want to ask you, was someone behind it when you trafficked me back then?"
Ella stared intently into his eyes. When the man heard Ella say this, a flash of surprise crossed his eyes. It was fleeting, but Ella caught it keenly.
Seeing the man pressing his lips together in silence, Henry scolded coldly.
"At this point, what do you have left to hide? You'd better come clean right now."
The man shuddered in fear and said somewhat hesitantly.
"Yes, someone did give us money to traffic you, but I don't know exactly who it was. I wasn't the one who handled that transaction. I really don't know."
"Then who was it? It was your wife, wasn't it?" Ella stared at him and asked coldly.
The man knew he couldn't hide it and could only nod silently.
"I see. You'd better tell us everything at once, or when I find out the truth, your sentence will be even worse," Henry said, looking at him.
"I've already been sentenced to so many years. I've said everything I should say. I'm telling the truth." The man sighed.
Henry had someone take the man away. After a few minutes, a middle-aged woman with graying hair was brought over.
Ella glanced at her. This woman had indeed aged a lot. Her triangular eyes seemed even smaller. It must be her.
Henry looked at the woman, explained the situation, and began the routine questioning.
The woman looked at Ella, her eyes also full of surprise.
When Henry asked who had instructed her, the woman was clearly hesitant. Henry's expression darkened as he said.
"Your husband has already confessed. What do you have left to hide?"
"Come clean right now! Who exactly instructed you?"
The woman didn't dare hide anything and said haltingly.
"It was a woman with the last name Baker. She gave me money and told me to traffic you, to sell you as far away as possible."
"Who would have thought you'd escape halfway and take a boy we'd trafficked with you?"
"Let me ask you, is the person you're talking about Carol?" Ella looked at her and asked.
"I don't know. I only know her last name was Baker. I was so happy to get the money at the time that I didn't ask for details."
Ella searched through her phone's photo album and held up a picture.
"Look, is this her?"
The woman leaned over, squinted her eyes, looked carefully, and nodded.
"That's her. She hasn't changed much. Rich people really know how to take care of themselves."
"Officer Johnson, my guess was right. It was Carol who instructed them."
"I understand, Ms. Brooks. I'll continue investigating this case. Now that we have evidence, we won't let any criminal get away."
"Thank you, Officer Johnson! Thank you again!"
Ella had finally solved the mystery from years ago. This time, Carol couldn't deny it. Ella would make sure she paid the price.
Ella walked out of the prison. Jason and Sarah had been waiting anxiously outside.
As soon as they saw her come out, they rushed over. Sarah asked anxiously.
"Ella, how did it go? Were they the people you were looking for?"
"Yes, they were the two people I was looking for. And they've confessed that it was Carol who hired them to traffic me when I was ten years old."
"How despicable! Your stepmother is absolutely shameless," Jason said angrily.
"Now the police have evidence too. We must hold her legally responsible and not let her get away with it," Sarah said angrily, clenching her fists.
"Officer Johnson has recorded everything and said he'll definitely pursue it to the end. Carol will pay the price," Ella nodded.
"Let's go back then. It's getting late. I'll treat you both to dinner to celebrate Ella's discharge from the hospital," Jason said with a smile, glancing at his watch.
"Ella?" Sarah looked at Ella questioningly.
"Since Jason's treating, let's not be shy. Sarah, what do you want to eat?"
"Ella, don't ask me. Jason wants to treat you," Sarah said with a meaningful smile, looking at the two of them.
"The three of us, let's go for Mexican food, the place we went to last time," Ella suggested after thinking for a moment.
"Great! I'll lead the way. Jason, follow closely," Sarah said cheerfully, turning to get in her car.
Ella got in the passenger seat, and the car slowly drove away.
The smile on Ella's face gradually faded as the images of those two criminals surfaced in her mind.
Long-buried memories surged up again—scenes of her desperate escape, the heart-pounding danger of that time still unforgettable.
She hoped all these bad people would be brought to justice so she would never have those terrible nightmares again.
At the Raymond Group, in the CEO's office.
Austin was reviewing documents when his phone suddenly rang.
He glanced at the caller ID and quickly swiped the screen, putting it on speaker.
"What did you find out?"
"Mr. Raymond, through certain means, we found that fugitive's transfer records. The most recent transactions were all from someone named Carol."
"Carol?" Austin felt the name was familiar, but couldn't remember who it was for a moment.
"Send me the information in a bit."
"Yes, Mr. Raymond. I'll send it to you right away!"
As soon as Austin ended the call, two file messages popped up on his phone screen.
He quickly opened the files. When he saw Carol's photo, he remembered immediately.
Wasn't this Judith's mother? No wonder it sounded so familiar.
No wonder he'd been investigating Judith all this time without any leads.
So it was Carol who did all these things.
Now it all made sense. Carol and Judith were truly venomous and ruthless.
Austin looked at those transaction records—they were all transferred during the time when Ella had her accident.
Even if Judith didn't do this herself, she must have instructed it. Austin was about to forward this evidence to the police.
But on second thought, he stopped, a smile playing at the corner of his mouth, and quickly dialed Ella's number.
Ella, Sarah, and Jason were enthusiastically eating and chatting at the restaurant.
Ella's phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID, and the smile on her face instantly disappeared.
