CHAPTER 108; STUCK

CHAPTER 108; STUCK
CIERRA

“I think it’s best we return” Cassius suggests as the call ends.

Meanwhile, I am still frozen, my heart in a deep dark well as I’m equal to a broken device that has no hope of being fixed. It’s not enough that they have my mate abducted and killed Elizabeth, they’ve also killed Gabriel. My father.

I never got to call him that after my memories returned, I hate him so bad I never thought I would be able to call him, I wished for his death a thousand times, to repay everything he had done to Mother and I but now that he’s dead my heart aches. Another weight I never expected the source would be from Gabriel has dropped on my heart, pulling down into the well deeper and deeper with every passing second.

“You don’t think she knows where we are?” I hear Nadine ask and it takes me a lot of effort to speak.

“She knows everything” That’s a fact. It seems the Robertson is ahead of us, we are only playing along with their games.

“Cierra is right, her face said it all ‘It doesn’t matter how far we run, they will get what they want’ Besides, we are already in their territory” Nadine points out, and I hate to admit it but she’s right. That is the dreadful reality of our situation, we managed to get in casually but if the Robertson’s are aware of everything, it will only take a miracle for us to get out. Besides, even though the gates are wide open for us to leave, I won’t leave, maybe I should have fought Selene with Gabriel back in the pack house. All I’ve been doing is running away, I’m tired of it. I need to fight head-on now, I’ve lost everything, Xander is the only reason I would want to remain in this cruel world, and I’m not going to cower away with fear.

“Drive to the pack house” I order Cassius. I can feel their gaze on me probably in shock, or disbelief.

“You want to go into the lion’s den, we don’t even have a plan”

“We don’t need a plan Nadine” I cut her off, my voice low but firm, I’m surprised as to how I can keep this level of composure despite how broken I have become on the inside. I literally saw my father dead on the screen, and that image will forever haunt me, maybe it’s because he’s taking a new leaf, for once I had the thought he would become not just a better person but a better father. But he’s gone, and I can’t ask him the questions I always wanted to, Elizabeth is gone too, the woman that was just like a mother to me, the one who embraced me when the Crescent Moon pack was against me, there is only Xander left and the fact I’m on the verge of losing him is tearing my insides apart.

“I don’t want to keep on running back on forth, they are the ones that need something from us, all we need is to get the controlling staff” I finally turn to meet Nadine who sighs in resignation, slumping back to the chair.

“If we are going with this, I think it’s best we call for backup”

Both Nadine and I turn to Cassius at his suggestion. As usual, he has a straight face, but there’s something different about him today, there has been a difference since he arrived at the cabin yesterday, and it’s something that took me looking beyond the surface. Fear.

The way he’s pupils dilate, his trembling hands last night, and his occasional tightening of his jaw. I’ve seen him kill, I’ve seen him do countless things but never have I seen this Cassius.

“We don’t have backup anymore”

“We do,” Cassius cuts Nadine and continues.

“My guess is Selene left Damien to hold back the guards back in the pack, if we can convince him to get the pack guards to come, there’s a chance of not losing much,” Cassius says reminding us of how dreadful our situation is. The guards coming will lead to a war, but if they don’t the Robertsons will get what they want, and surviving will have to be on the goddess performing a miracle.

Nadine and I nod in sync, urging to go on. We watch anxiously as he pulls out his phone to call his number but there’s no answer, this goes on five times before Cassius decides to leave a long paragraph essay, I didn’t need to read it, I didn’t have to. If the fact that his cousin is in trouble and that’s not enough to move him to help, I think it’s impossible for him to send the guards over.

“Shall we?” Cassius questions before starting the engine to keep on driving and I nod, while Nadine stares at the window, her hands rubbing her stomach in a circular motion. It’s an action that feels odd to the point I can’t help but notice.
