Chapter 37 Thirty Seven
Elara's POV
Cyric and I were able to fight off the guys who decided to ambush me in the old cathedral. I couldn't understand who it was that was behind this attack and why they sent a false message.
Cyric and I were able to fight them off. It wasn’t easy, but we didn’t back down either.
They had their guns and claws but we conquered. After the last one had fallen and hit the ground, when it dawned on me that Cyric’s presence had been put to good use.
I stood still, my breath coming raggy. My hands were still shaking from the fight. I wasn't scared. I was just overwhelmed by the sudden attack.
What I couldn’t wrap my head around was who sent them.
Who was behind this?
And why? What was the motive?
The meeting was fake. It was a setup. A setup.by someone who wanted me gone, dead and forgotten but didn’t have the guts to face me by themselves.
That was cowardly. I looked around the hall again. This was all planned but unfortunately their plans had failed. I had defeated them and was still standing and I would find out who did this.
“Are you okay, Boss?”. Cyric inquired, draping my arm around his neck.
“I am fine, Cyric. Let's get out of here.” I ordered, my voice lower than a whisper.
“Yes, Boss.” Cyric responded, draping my arm properly over his neck.
He led me through the cathedral walking out of the cathedral slowly while stepping over broken chairs and bodies.
I felt hurt. I felt stupid that I didn't sniff this out on time. I hated how I was played a fool. How I wasn't able to decipher that I was walking into a trap.
But deep down, I knew this wasn’t over.
Someone had crossed a line by setting an ambush on me and they were going to pay for it. They are going to pay the price with their lives.
Cyric helped me into the car and went around to start the engine. As we drove away from the cathedral, I stared out the window, my jaw clenched.
“How dare those thugs attack you? Who could have sent a wrong message to our mail? Who is trying to mess with you, Boss Elara?.”
I didn't answer right away. I stayed silent. A train of thoughts honking through my mind. There was a lot I had to figure out. A lot I had to decipher.
My silence was like a shield, protecting me from the chaos of thoughts swirling in my mind.
Who was behind this setup?
What was their endgame?
The questions echoed in my head relentlessly, seeking answers that never came.
Cyric's concern was palpable, but I didn't know the right answer to give him. I was lost in my own world of strategy and revenge.
I would unravel the threads of this conspiracy, and when I eventually do, the perpetrators would have no other option but to face my wrath.
The cathedral ambush was just the beginning; the real battle was yet to begin. I would not rest until I had answers and justice. My jaw remained clenched, a promise to myself and my enemies.
“Boss?.” Cyric called out, tapping me gently on my shoulder, returning me back to reality.
“....yes?.” I answered, turning to face him.
“Who do you think is messing with you, Boss?”. Cyric inquired for the second time, turning the steering wheel with one hand while he turned down the radio that I didn't realize had been playing since I got into the car.
“I don't know who is responsible. I have a lot of enemies. We have a lot of enemies. It could be Luca or worse still Allan or Alpha Williams of the Kordova's pack. I can wrap my finger around who it was that could have done this.”
"But one thing is certain," I said, my voice firm and resolute. "I will find out who is behind this, and they will pay dearly, with their lives." I swore underneath my breath.
Cyric nodded, his eyes fixed on the road. "We'll get to the bottom of this, Boss. Throne and I will unravel this mystery."
I gazed out the window, my mind racing with possibilities. The list of my suspects was long, but my gut told me it was someone close, someone I least expected. Or maybe someone I expected. I was going to follow my hunch.I was going to have to tread carefully and gather enough information, and eventually strike when the time was right.
The game of cat and mouse has just begun and I was more than ready to play.
The rest of the drive home was in silence. Cyric understood well and stayed quiet. He could tell that I had a lot going through my mind.
As we pulled up in front of the pack house I felt a sense of relief wash over me.
The adrenaline from the fight was wearing off, but my determination had remained strong.
I knew I wouldn't rest until I uncovered the truth behind the ambush. The force and power behind the setup.
Cyric parked the car and turned to me, his eyes questioning. I nodded, and he got out.
He opened the door for me. I stepped out, my eyes scanning the surroundings.
Everywhere was quiet, and I could feel the peace my territory had. The werewolves on security were standing at attention, ready to detect any sign of danger. I nodded to them, and they bowed with respect as I walked towards the entrance.
My mind was already racing ahead, planning my next move.
“Make sure to inform Darius, Throne and Aria of everything that happened today. Well have an emergency meeting tomorrow morning.” I Instructed Cyric.
“Yes, Boss.” he replied with enthusiasm.
“You can go to your room, Cyric. You need your rest. You did a great job today. Well see tomorrow morning.”
Cyric nodded without without question. He spun around and headed to his room while I headed to my chambers.
