Chapter 36 Thirty Six

Chapter 36 Thirty Six

Elara's POV

I didn't like the feeling that crept up my spine, giving me goosebumps as we embarked further away from our pack and closer to the old cathedral. I had my worries because the werewolf community had never called for an emergency meeting so late at night.

The road felt longer than usual. It was quiet and partly lonely. My fingers tapped slowly against my thigh as I stared out the window. My mind fixed on the journey ahead of us. Trees blurred past us as we drove at high speed.

Something felt off. I didn’t trust such meetings, especially not the ones held in secret places like the old cathedral.

It was almost midnight. I didn’t know what they were planning. I wanted to believe the meeting was for the betterment of the werewolf community because I would be vexed if they only called me out of my comfort zone to play sympathizer for the Kordova pack.

I had this hunch I shouldn't just walk in blind and that is why I prepared my gun. In the werewolf world, peace meetings could turn into traps and turn out bloody.

Tonight, my instincts told me to stay alert.

“Take a turn to the left.” I instructed Cyric since he hasn't been to the old cathedral before.

After about twenty-five minutes on the road, I pulled up in front of the old Cathedral.

Something was off.

The cathedral was eeriely quiet. On a normal day, I was supposed to start hearing noise coming from the cathedral but tonight was different. Like they were here to mourn someone and not talk about helping the Kordova pack. A pin dropped to the floor could be heard due to how quiet everywhere was.

“Are you sure you want to go in alone? I can be your bodyguard for the night.” Cyric offered with genuine concern.

I turned to him, seeing the worry etched on face, flickering in his eyes. He was dead serious. He cocked his head. He didn’t like the silence I was prolonging.

I gave a soft sigh, facepalming myself. I shook my head. “I’ll be fine, Cyric. No one is going to hurt me in a meeting like this and even if they do, I'll blow their heads off with my gun. All I need is to walk in there with my head held high while I play my role.”

“But, Boss?—” he insisted further.

“I said I’ll be fine, Cyric. You always worry too much. I can handle this. I promise.”

I studied Cyric’s facial expression. He didn't look convinced but he didn’t budge. “If you insist on going in alone, why not let me stand by the door then. If anything happens, I’ll be close enough to know and help you.”

I closed my eyes, nodded slowly.“Fine. If you insist, Cyric. But you'll have to stay by the door. Don’t follow me in or come in unless I tell you to.”

He agreed with a small smile. We alighted the car. While Cyric handed my purse to me. I casted a last glance at him, my heels echoed as I walked toward the cathedral.

I paused in my steps, confused as my eyes took in the cathedral immediately as I walked in.

The whole hall was empty. No one was here. Not even a single soul was in sight. No elders. No guards. No alphas. Nothing. Just silence and empty chairs.

This isn't real?

I wiped my eyes with my palms hoping I wasn't dreaming but I wasn't. This was real.

My brows pulled together in a frown as I glanced around the room.

“What the hell is this?” I whispered under my breath.

Who could have pulled such a stunt on me?

Or were they having the meeting upstairs or are waiting for me to come before commencing?

I decided to check upstairs, maybe they had moved the meeting up there .

But just as I took two steps up the stairs, I heard the heavy wooden door to one of the numerous exits from the cathedral slam shut behind me.

I spun around fast, heart pounding furiously.

I was sure I heard the door slam shut and this could only mean that someone had closed the door which translates to the fact that I wasn’t the only one here. Something felt wrong.

Before I knew it, five werewolves came out of the dark surrounding me.

Terrific!!

One of them stepped forward with a wicked smile perched on his face.“Tonight is your last night. We are going to kill you Elara. You are going to die, Elara. No one will know about this. No one will find your body because once we are done, we are going to toss it into an ocean. You’ll vanish like a ghost with no trace.”

I smirked, pulling out my gun from my purse without fear. I sent my purse lying to the other side of the room. “You think I came unprepared?” I asked, cocking it with ease, training it in various directions while moving in a circle. “If you're going to kill me, then you better try your best… because I am not someone you can easily beat or kill.”

A low snarl erupted from all of them. They shared a quick glance amongst themselves, their eyes gleaming with hatred. They seemed tense, their eyes narrowing.

“You think you stand a chance against five men?”

A roar of laughter erupted.

“She thinks he can't be killed. We will have to teach her a lesson she would not live to regret.”

“Exactly. Let's make her understand that a rouge queen is nothing but a mere title that doesn't matter in the werewolf community.

“Come on then,” I snarled through gritted teeth while aiming my gun at the one closest to me. “Let’s dance to your freaking music. Shall we?

My heart beat was fast, I could hear it thumping loudly but I kept my hands very steady.
