Chapter 46

Chapter 46

Selene’s POV

“Kids, please—stop! Stay calm, okay?” I pleaded with the children, but their cries only grew louder. We could hear howling outside—and I knew immediately it wasn’t from my Pack members. I could also hear the rapid, panicked heartbeats of the children’s mothers.

Argh! I didn’t know who to tend to first. I gathered everyone into the living room of our Pack’s safehouse. I had no idea what was happening outside, only that Dwight had left a few Pack Warriors here to protect us.

Then came barking—loud and aggressive—from just beyond our walls, making the children sob even harder. Some of them already had runny noses from crying for so long.

“Shhhh, babies, please… stop crying,” I whispered, trying to soothe them.

I glanced at the Pack mothers, each clutching their pups tightly. I knew they weren’t afraid for themselves—but for their mates and their children.

There was nothing we could do now but pray—to ask the Mother for guidance and to bring our warriors home safely.

Once again, we heard noises—groans and begging, like someone was being hurt. I was about to stand when one of the women stopped me.

“Luna, where are you going? We’re safe here,” she said, her eyes flicking down to the small swell of my belly.

“Luna, think of your pup. If anything happens to you… we wouldn’t survive it,” she added. The others nodded in agreement, and I reluctantly sat back down. I pulled Darren into a tight hug and kissed the top of his head.

I was proud of my son—he wasn’t crying like the other children. There was bravery in his eyes, a silent promise to protect me and his sibling.

“Baby, are you okay?” I asked gently. He looked up at me and gave me a thumbs-up. I exhaled slowly, trying to calm myself.

Then—BANG! The living room door burst open, making everyone scream. Some of the mothers even jumped in shock.

A Pack Warrior stumbled inside, covered in blood. I started to rise and help him—but he collapsed before I could reach him, unconscious.

We froze. And then—

“So, this is where you’ve been hiding, Selene. You made it such a hassle for me to kill you… and to make your little friends suffer,” Keira’s voice cut through the silence. She stood behind the fallen warrior, smiling with pure malice.

More Lycans followed her into the room.

“Take that woman! If she resists—kill all the pups!” she ordered two of the Lycans.

A shiver ran down my spine—not for my own life, but for the children here.

What the hell?! Did they have no mercy? How could anyone threaten children?

When one of the Lycans reached for me, I didn’t fight back. I couldn’t risk the lives of these innocent little ones.

Darren growled and moved in front of me, blocking my view. He was protecting me—just like he’d promised Dwight.

“Don’t get near my mom!” he snarled.

“Kill the pup!” Keira ordered.

My blood boiled. If they touched my son, I’d rip her head off with my bare hands.

“No, Darren. Baby, step back—Mommy will be okay,” I told him quickly.

Keira scoffed. “Let’s see if you can still say that after I bury you alive.”

But instead of stepping back, Darren moved forward, snarling at the Lycan who tried to grab me.

I froze at what happened next—Darren lunged at the Lycan and sank his teeth deep into its neck. Blood spurted, and the Lycan roared in pain, hurling Darren across the room. My son slammed into the wall and went limp.

The other children wailed in terror. The Lycan hadn’t expected a pup to injure him.

Rage consumed me. I leapt at the Lycan, my Aeon strength flaring, and wrapped my hands around his throat. With a violent twist, I tore off his head and let his body collapse to the floor.

All I could see was red. I was ready to attack the next one when Keira’s voice stopped me.

“Go ahead, Selene! Do it—if you want all these pups to die!” she threatened.

More Lycans filled the room, each ready to strike. My shoulders slumped.

Keira approached me, grabbed my hair, and yanked me toward the door.

The Pack Warriors who had been assigned to protect us were already dead—bodies scattered across the ground outside. She shoved me forward, and I fell to my knees before the one person I would hate for the rest of my life.

“It’s your time, daughter! They’re all dead! The Aeons have lost—accept it!” Logan sneered.

What a fool. They could never defeat my mate. Dwight was strong—it was impossible for them to win. I looked him dead in the eye.

“You can’t fool me, Logan. The moment Dwight finds out you’re here, he’ll come back—and he’ll tear you limb from limb. And you, Keira… don’t worry. I’ll personally deal with you.” My voice dripped with sarcasm.

No mate of mine would lose this fight.

Logan’s expression hardened. He struck me across the face and dragged his claws down my cheek, leaving bloody scratches. Good—let him hurt me more. When Dwight saw this, I wouldn’t stop him from destroying Logan.

“You still have that mouth, even when your fate—and your sister’s—are in our hands?” he mocked.

At the mention of my sister, my gaze snapped to Keira, who was smirking.

“What did you do to her?” I asked through clenched teeth.

Keira examined her nails with mock boredom. Logan answered for her. “My mate and I killed her.” He then kissed her—ugh.

Keira grinned. “I enjoyed torturing her. She even begged for her life.”

I saw the satisfaction in her eyes. My vision went dark with rage.

I jumped and shifted mid-air, my silver wolf form landing with claws extended. I slashed them both, my attack striking Keira hardest—leaving a deep, bloody gash across her face. She fell unconscious.

Good, my wolf thought. We’re not done with her yet.

Logan, being an old Lycan, knew every battle trick. He dodged my next attack as the surrounding Lycans lunged at me.

I bit, tore, and ripped them apart. My silver fur became drenched in their foul blood. Even with my power, I was still a wolf—and a pregnant one at that.

Exhaustion hit me hard. My wolf collapsed to the ground, panting—not from fear, but from sheer fatigue. Wounds stung across my body where I hadn’t been able to block attacks.

Logan’s Lycan form loomed over me, his grin pure evil.

“I still have the last card, Selene. I knew this would happen. Rejoice—you’ll soon see your Mother in the afterlife!”

Rain poured down in heavy sheets. I howled—calling for my mate, my voice filled with pain. The sky seemed to mourn with me.

I’m sorry, Dwight. I’m sorry, baby… I’m too weak. I can’t protect you or the Pack. I failed you all.

My wolf stared up at the stormy sky. Still, I felt pride in my heart—I belonged to this Pack.

Logan was ready to snap my neck. All I could do was close my eyes and pray. I waited for the killing blow… but it never came.

The scent hit me first—my mate. My mate was here. He had come for me.

I forced myself to stand. I saw Light—Dwight’s wolf—slam into Logan, knocking him off balance and into the mud. My mate stood in front of me, shielding me from harm.

I was so tired—my pregnancy was draining me. Still, I managed to speak before darkness took me.

“Thank you for coming, my love… thank you…”
