Chapter 181

Chapter 181
Renée's POV

“Renée” I could feel my body getting closer to the sound of my name and suddenly, I was standing face to face with her. Her old, wise eyes, her ethereal look and entrancing beauty…

Evelyn.

The momentary confusion dissipated as soon as I realized who it was.

“Evelyn! Oh thank goddess. I need your help” I said as I immediately attempted to hold her, only to find myself falling.
Luckily, she caught me in time.

Dizziness blurred my vision as I struggled to stay on my feet.

She held me firmly yet softly as she led me to a log of wood and sat me on it, before settling beside me.

“It's okay, you'll be fine” she said and I coughed.

“What's happening to me?” I felt myself getting more and more weak, rapidly.

“Your body is dying,” she said and my eyes widened in shock.

“What?!” I said as blood started dripping from my nose.

No, no, no. This cannot be happening.

“Why?” I asked as I fought to stay alert.

“We've been trying to get through to you but it's been hard. Your body has been consistently weak and dying already, because you keep overexerting yourself, and so, it's been hard to communicate with you. So, we had to force your soul here and it's speeding up the process” she explained.

“I- what-” I was so lost but I could barely even talk.
The effect was rapid.

“Freya! Hurry up!” Evelyn yelled and almost immediately, Freya showed up holding a bowl.

“Okay, okay, I'm coming!” Freya responded, urgency in her tone.

“Quickly” Evelyn said as Freya handed her the bowl.

Evelyn instantly turned to me with the bowl. It contained a clear liquid. Like water.
“Drink it” she said as she raised the bowl to my lips.

I raised a questioning brow as I coughed and turned away.

“We're your spirit guides. There's no way we'll hurt you” Freya said, pointing at Evelyn and herself.

They were right.

I instantly drank from the bowl.
It definitely wasn't water. It was so sour.

I made an irritated face as I turned to Evelyn, shoving the bowl back in her hands and she passed it on to Freya.

I felt the effect almost immediately.
My eyes cleared up, my body calmed. Everything felt so peaceful.
I let out a breath of relief before finally looking at them.

“What is that?” I asked, staring oddly at the bowl.

“It’s what we Dahlias drink here. Just like our water,” Evelyn explained.

“Your water is sour?” I asked, very surprised.

“Not to us, it isn't” Freya said and I nodded.

It just healed me.
Maybe…

“Is there any way I can take some of that with me back to the real world?” I asked, hoping it was somehow possible.

“No. Nothing can leave this realm, it would be disastrous. And even if it was possible, there'd be no point. It doesn't have healing properties” Evelyn said and I frowned.

“But I -”

“You feel better, yes but that feeling will only last for a few minutes. Besides, it didn't even heal you, your body is still dying, you just feel better” she said and I sighed in defeat.

“You need to stop,” Freya warned, and I instantly knew what she meant.

“I can't. Please. I'm the only thing keeping him alive” I basically pleaded.

“You're going to die before you can do that. What good is it going to do if both of you die?” Freya said and I buried my head in my hands.

“Please, help me” My voice broke into a whisper and I turned to Evelyn.

“Please… I- I- tried summoning your powers but it didn't work. Is it because it’s not a necessary cause to you?”

“No. It's because you're doing it wrong.” Evelyn said and I frowned.

“I did everything you told me to” I argued.

“No, you didn't” Freya piped in.

“I told you to focus and feel the energy of every living thing around you, before directing the power” Evelyn clarified.

“Yes, and that's what I did but all I ever felt was a fizzle of energy” I said and Freya scoffed.

“Yeah? And how many living things are usually in that space? Apart from you and a semi-dead man?” Freya asked and my eyes widened.

Did she just?

“Well, I thought the trees that surround the estate and -” I got cut off again.

“We can't tell you exactly what to do, Renée. It's not something we can do, but, all I can tell you is to focus.” Evelyn said, and I blinked in confusion.

I turned to Freya and she mouthed something I couldn't quite make out, while making a motion with her hand.

Seeing my confusion, she just grunted, before turning to Evelyn.

“She is definitely going to be the Dahlia with the shortest life span” she said.

“Freya,” Evelyn chided, before suddenly tilting her head to the side.

“We don't have much time anymore. The effect of the water is about to wear out and we can't keep you here any longer.” Evelyn said and I started to panic.

“Please, tell me something else. Anything.” I begged.

“The answer is right in front of you Renée. Just harness it” she said as she jumped to her feet.

“But, I -” I started but Freya cut me off.

“Remember Renée, you chose to risk your life to save him. There's a high chance you won't make it. But there's a slight chance you might. Either way, remember it's a huge risk” she explained.

“I just-” I wanted to talk but Evelyn cut me off.
Ugh. I can't even get a word in.

“There's no time” she said with worry in her eyes as she reached for Freya's hand.

“Now, Freya!” She basically yelled.

I let out a sharp breath as I watched the scene unfold in front of me.

Just before Freya grabbed her hand, she mouthed the thing again with that same motion and somehow, it finally clicked. My eyes widened in realization just as I saw the familiar white light and boom, I was back.
