Chapter 182

Chapter 182
Renée's POV

My eyes fluttered open and I sucked in a sharp breath, before acknowledging where I was.

Right.
I forced myself to sit up despite my weak body.
I stared at him for a second as the monitor beeped steadily.

I checked my phone, it's been several hours since I slept.
Normally, I would have gotten up and used my powers on him again.

I sighed before I thought about the things Evelyn and Freya told me.
The clue Freya gave me before I left.

‘The Space’. That was what she said.
The screws in my head turned.
Think Renée, think.
I grabbed my head as I tried to recall the entire conversation.

After a few minutes of trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong, it finally clicked.

“How many living things are usually in that space? Apart from you and a semi-dead man?”

That was literally what she said.

The space.

I looked around the room.
That's it.

There aren't enough living things in here.
I initially thought it just meant around me, I didn't know they had to be in this space. In this room.

I jumped to my feet and grabbed my phone.

I rapidly dialed Dylan's number.

“I need your help” I said as soon as he picked up.

“Tell me,” he said.

“I need plants, flowers, lots and lots of them.” I said and I could almost see the confusion on his face.

“Uhhh… okay… What type of flowers?” he asked and I was just about to tell him it didn't matter, when it hit me.

“Renée?” He called out and I shook my head.

“Dahlias,” I said.

Of course.
That made sense.
We're Dahlias. It should add a higher level of strength and power to summoning them.
I mean… it should.
Right?

“Just Dahlias?” He asked and I shook my head.

“No, other plants and flowers too but mostly Dahlias” I explained.

“Just how many of these do you need?”he asked and I hummed.

“As many as possible. I need them to take over this room” I said and I could tell he was curious as to why I needed them but he didn't want to ask.
So I told him instead.

“I think I figured it out. How to save him.” I said and it's like that was all he needed to hear.

“On it” he said, before ending the call.

Okay, hopefully this worked.

While he figured that out, I needed to increase my strength. I needed to be strong enough to be able to successfully do this.

I could feel Hera’s exhaustion.
A little voice in my head reminded me that my life was at risk too but I shoved it into a box and locked it up.

I had food brought to me with lots of fruits and healthy stuff. I stuffed as much as I could down my throat, trying to make my body as strong as possible.

When I was done, I thought of writing a letter to him, just in case I didn't make it.

And so, I did and folded it up.

Just as I was done, I heard a knock on the door.
He was here.

I opened the door and stared at Dylan who stood empty handed. I looked behind him and there was no one and no flowers there.

“Wait, where -” I trailed and he raised a brow.

“There's no way I'm letting anyone come in without being sure you're ready” he said and I smiled softly.

“I'm ready, but…” I trailed off before looking back at Alex.

“I don't think it's a good idea for anyone to see him like this” I said and he nodded in agreement, before stepping inside.

“Let's drape something over the heart monitor and let's cover him properly” he suggested and I reluctantly agreed.

“Just for a few minutes” he added and I nodded.
So, we did just that before he finally ordered them to come in.

People filtered in and out of the room with hundreds of flowers.
By the time they were all in, there was more than enough.
At least, I hoped so.
And to top it off, the room smelled divine.

“So, now what?” Dylan asked as pulled off the covers.

“I'm going to summon them” I said and he turned his head to the side in confusion.

“Your spirit guides?” He asked and I nodded.

“And this will work?” He asked and I sighed.

“I'm hoping for the best but yes, it should” I said and he nodded softly before touching my shoulder and bending over to my level.

“It's okay, Ren. It will work. And even if it doesn't, it's okay too. We'll figure something else out, okay?” He said and I swallowed hard.

“Yeah…” I whispered.

He frowned.
“What's wrong?” he asked and my eyes darted to the side.

I pulled out the letter and placed it in his hand.
“I wrote this for him,” I started as my eyes glanced momentarily at Alex on the bed.
“Please, give it to him when he wakes up”

“Wait. Ren, why are you giving it to me?” he asked.

“I- well, there's a slight chance I might not make it” I said and his hands dropped to his side.

“No. No way. You are giving it to him yourself” he said as he grabbed my hand and put the letter back in it.

“Alex will kill me. I'm supposed to protect you, Renée. Not watch you die” he argued.

I closed my eyes and shook my head.

“Well, I can't watch him die, Dylan.” I said, clearly exhausted.

He shook his head adamantly.

Tears rolled down my cheeks.
“I'm doing this with or without your consent, Dylan” I stated and he let out a sharp breath as his eyes watered, fear written all over his face.

“But I would rather have your support in this” I said and he ran a frustrated hand through his hair.

“Please…” I whispered.

“Help me,” I said as I grabbed his hand and placed the letter in it again.

This time, he reluctantly held on to it.

I watched a lone tear fall down his face.

“Hey, hey, don't cry” I said with a slight chuckle.

“Dylan Fox crying?” I teased but he shook his head like that wasn't what mattered.

“It'll be fine. Plus, there's a chance I'll be just fine. I've eaten a lot for extra strength and I got hours of sleep. Let's be positive, yeah?” I said, my tone lighter.

He swiped a hand across his face and pinched the bridge of his nose, before letting out a sharp breath and reluctantly nodding.

I smiled.

“You should calm Sasha and let her know that we found a way” I said.

“I already did” he said and my eyes widened.

“I should get to it then. I don't want her to worry about me” I said and Dylan sighed.

It was time.

“You should probably step out,” I said and he nodded.

“Nobody comes in till I'm done. You'll know when I am” I said and he nodded again.

I hugged Dylan tightly and he did the same.

“Thank you Renée” he said and I swatted his arm before pulling away and giving him a bright smile.

Finally, he stopped outside. And then, it was just me and Alex.

I walked towards him.

“I'm sorry baby, I love you so much” I said as I tucked his hair behind his head.

Absolutely beautiful. I wondered how anyone could manage to still look so stunning even on the brink of death.

I lowered my lips to his and planted a kiss on his lips.

Finally, I walked away from him to the middle of the room.

I said a little prayer to the moon goddess before getting down to business.

Here we go.
