Chapter Eighty-Eight: Star Witness
After many hours of ruining some awful people’s day, Macauley and I walk through the lobby with many maids and butlers shouting, screaming and fighting against the guards but as like the officials, they were no match for any of them. It was clear to me how many people Julia really had working for her, we’ve rounded up around 200 people, some having variety of reactions. Most were angry that they had been caught and proceeded to shout abuse directed at me, others pleaded that they had no choice but to help her whilst some even stated that they had been set up. But by the end, each and every one were taken down to the dungeons to join the officials.
“Toady has been very productive ma’am.” Macaulay says with a smile as we come to a stop right by the stairs in the lobby, many innocent maids and butlers looking in horror as their colleagues were dragged away kicking and screaming. “Where to now?” He asks but I believed he already knew the answer, the one man who I’ve waited all day to catch.
“There’s only one more, how do you feel about gate chasing another meeting?” I ask with a little smirk; Macaulay simply smiles telling me to lead the way before we all turn on our heels and begin to walk through the halls leading to Max’s office.
With a smile, I push the doors to Max’s open without even knocking, all three men looked towards Macaulay, myself and our group of mean looking guards as we stood in the doorway. But my eyes were only on one man, stood off to the side near Max’s desk, his eyes locking with mine as one of the guards put the special device on the wall and close the door behind us.
“May I ask what is happening, we were in a very important meeting?” He asks attempting to hide the worry in his voice as I still lock eyes with him, his eyes going everywhere else but mine.
“I’ve been breaking up a lot of those today, the officials, some butlers, maids, even the gardener! Now we had to be careful with him, those shears were sharp!” I exclaim taking slow steps into the room, whilst out of the corner of my eye, I watch Max looking me up and down attempting to work out what was happening.
“Do you understand where I’m going with this?” I ask crossing my arms over my chest, my question does finally, cause Guy look over at me where in his eyes, I knew he knew exactly what I was saying, but in order to not get caught, he was playing dumb. “Don’t worry, I understand how busy you can get so perhaps some things can slip from memory, allow me to show you something which I think will help.” I say with a little smile whilst Macaulay walks closer to me, pulling out a specific photo out of the confidential folder.
Handing it over to me, I hold the photo of Guy and the oh so lovely Jared together in the café. As soon as Guy saw what I held, his face switches to a more than concerned expression whilst his eyes snap over to the desk where Max and Fred will sit. Max was now looking right at Guy with such a deadly look, I believe he now understood my reasoning for being here.
“Did you and Jared have a lovely chat at the restaurant the other day, I mean you went to speak with that very intelligent man, oh what was his name again?” I ask pretending to forget whilst looking over at Macaulay, but when a different man walks out from behind the guards, it was as though Guy had seen a ghost.
“Richard.” The man who played that part said with such a straight face, where I nod my head in understanding before turning back to Guy, who was slowly backing up closer to the wall, but not knowing shout the secret tunnels and our block of guards by the door, he was trapped.
“The gig is up Guy, I know everything. I guess that promotion that Julia gave you wasn’t worth it after all because now you get to spend the rest of your life in prison, you should have read the fine print.” I say with a little smile and a shrug of my shoulders, my comment does cause Guy to break his composed manner and start to flare is arms around wanting anyone to listen.
“I was doing it for Max! I needed to know what was happening behind the scenes so I could better help the King!” He shouts looking mainly at Max as though he was going to believe him, but I only laugh at his sorry excuse of an explanation.
“You were helping the King whilst helping a man who was trying to kill his mate? I’m sorry but I’m struggling to see how that works.” I say tilting my head to the side, but soon after, the deepest growl full of nothing but pure anger soon ripples around the room from Max who still sat at his desk. “The night of that very important meeting, you pulled Max away from me at the perfect moment. It was your job to keep him away from me long enough so I would be stabbed to death and left to bleed out all alone. I bet you didn’t expect the Beta to be beside me, did you?” I ask looking at the man with nothing but a disgusted feeling, yet another growl ripples from Max’s chest as his eyes were now growing darker with each second that would pass.
Guy drastically, looks around the room at each person with nothing but pure fear on his face. He knew he had come to the end of the line, and I knew it all, there was nothing he could say or do to stop what was about to happen.
“YOU HAVE NO EVIDENCE, JUST SOME FUCKING PHOTO THAT DOESN’T PROVE ANYTHING!” Guy shouts so loudly looking right at me, but I wasn’t intimidated in the slightest.
“Do you truly believe I would walk into this office without having any evidence to back up my claims? I have something even better than a photo; I have a star witness.” I say in a much calmer voice and just like on cue, the doors to the office are opened and from behind the guards emerges the man I like to call, tattoo guy.
As I look over at Max and Fred who were still behind the desk, I saw the look of pure shock on their faces as they look over at Paul, the man they had been best friends with for years but also, the man who they believed was dead. But Guy on the other hand nearly falls to the floor from complete shock, the guards using this as their chance to rush over and apprehend him, which he didn’t do without a fight. The handcuffs were soon placed on his hands and that same syringe with that special green liquid was injected into his neck causing him to cry out in pain.
“YOU’RE A BASTARD!” Guy shouts so intensely towards Paul, who doesn’t even flinch as he stood in place staring at the once composed man fighting against the guards. “AFTER EVERYTHING THAT WE ALL DID FOR YOU, YOU GO BEHIND OUR BACKS AND WORK WITH HER?!” He shouts even louder throwing himself towards me, but the guards easily hold him back, that comment clearly agitating Paul.
“Everything you did for me?! You dragged me away from my home and threatened to kill my entire family if I didn’t do exactly what I was told!” Paul shouts looking right at Guy, who has nothing to say but throw spit towards us, what’s with all these guys and spitting?!
“If we’re going down, I’m taking you down with us!” Guy scoffs thinking that he had somehow won, but now it was my turn to take a closer step towards him with a smirk on my own.
“That’s where you’re wrong again Guy, Paul has agreed to help us with this case any way that he can so in exchange, he is not charged with anything and remains free.” I say explaining the huge meeting that Macaulay and I shared with Paul the day before my coronation.
This new realisation soon sends Guy in an even bigger frenzy, Macaulay having enough of this telling the guards to take him away. Within a moment, Guy was taken out kicking and screaming before the door is closed and the once loud office, is dead quiet.
I soon realise I had a lot of explaining to do and turn to face Max, who sat in his chair, his hands gripping the desk so hard his knuckles turned white, his eyes locked on Paul.
“See, I told said you’d see what I was doing.” Is all I say with a little smile.
